Review | BF T28 Assault Tank (15mm) - CSU01 | Clash of Steel - Flames of War

America dabbled with a few Super Heavy tank designs. T28 was a monster - designed to carry a bunker-busting 105mm gun into battle on four sets of tracks! My review example came from the Clash of Steel US vs Sovietstarter box, but T28 can also be used in Flames of War. Join me as we look at the plastic, the stats, and of course, a little history of the behemoth that was T28. If you are enjoying ...

    Loved the video @FogofWar! Can't wait for the next video man! I think the Post-War and Experimental Designs are Nice to see, as it gives you a Bit More Variety for your Forces. The FV4101 Charioteer would be a Great Addition to Either Clash of Steel or Late War Leviathans as well as the M103 Super Heavy Tank, The Latter having only about 100 or 200 Vehicles built. You don't see much of Anything for Korea, which is Understandable since most everyone was using leftovers from World War Two, but it would be nice to See some More Historic Designs like the M46, M46A1 and M47 Patton Tanks. As for the IS-7, I know The Mighty Jingles probably isn't watching anything with the Battlefront Miniatures Tabletop War Game Community but if you had gotten the IS-7, It would probably be just as well because he Hates them and that "Pike Nose" on the Hull of Tank Designs from those Onwards. It acts as More Armor for the Lower Glasis making Ambushes from Below their Gun Depression an Exercise in Futility. I think I mentioned this in the Last Unboxing video, but I have worked out some Ammunition Limits for the Soviet Tanks and BMP's as well as a Few Other Vehicles in Team Yankee. Below will be the Missiles, The Vehicle Teams that use them, as well as How many Missiles Available to each Team. • AT-3 Sagger ATGM (BMP-1) (4 Shots). • AT-5 Spandrel ATGM (BMP-2) (8 Shots). • AT-6 Spiral ATGM (9M149 Shturm) (12 Shots). • AT-8 Songster ATGM (T-64) (8 Shots). • AT-10 Stabber ATGM (T-55AM) (3 Shots). • AT-11 Sniper ATGM (T-72B) (Likely 8 Shots). • 9M33 Osa (Wasp) (SA-8 Gecko) (1 Shot with 2 More Reloads Carried in a Separate Vehicle). • 9M35 Strela-10 (Arrow) (SA-13 Gopher) (8 Shots). • RPG-7/RPG-7V Anti-Tank Teams (6 Shots, 1 Loaded with 2 More Carried by the Grenadier and another 3 Carried by the Accompanying Rifleman). Further Additions that I hope to do are the SA-9 Spandrel, SA-14 Gremlin MANPADS, The AT-4 Spigot ATGM's, The AGS-17 "Plamya" (Flame) Automatic Grenade Launcher and the BMP-3 and T-80. Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video man! The Ammunition Limits are just for that Tiny Bit of Extra Detailing to your Forces and I hope to do something similar for the Americans, The British and their NATO Allies as well.

      Thanks for your lengthy comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. About 300 M103s were built, although many were remanufactured and rebuilt into A1 and A2 variants. Plus the hull was the basis for the M51 recovery vehicle. I think The Chieftain had a video about one of those recently. Ammunition is an interesting idea. It would be difficult to track in a tabletop game, which is why I think it is abstracted in Battlefront’s games.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar Před 17 hodinami

      Yeah. Plus Charioteer was obviously an expedient design. They knew it wasn’t great, but it was available “now”, and anything available “now” is better than something great “later” if you need it “right now”!

    • @trekanbelluvitsh
      @trekanbelluvitsh Před 9 hodinami

      @FogofWar And on the other hand it is understandable that just a few of them were made. The world had suffered a world war which was also very expensive (not talking about the deads and the destruction, the grief and the sorrow). You don't build 50,000 tanks of a type if you don't have to as in war time. So at least these tanks historical and only a few were produced for reasons.

  • @lesp1964
    @lesp1964 Před dnem

    Rule wise what's the armour like on the Charioteer , as the real one only had 20mm - 30mm on the turret ? The Finnish Army got 38 Charioteers , they were used until 1972 front line unit/s , then they were used for training until 1980 .

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar Před 18 hodinami

      It will be interesting to see what the armour is like in-game. The main criticism of the design was thin turret armour. It was really more a tank destroyer rather than a tank. Charioteer was a good way to get 20-pdr guns into service quickly, but it was an expedient design rather than a good one. Like the Finns, Charioteer ended us serving with British Territorial Army units for most of their career.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar Před dnem

      I hadn’t realised they’d done that, but apparently there was a single L7 prototype produced. That would have been a monster. There were some Charioteer VIIBs with the visually similar Type B 20-pdr guns. And apparently Finland wanted to do L7 upgrades too.

  • @MrJibble
    @MrJibble Před dnem

    The Charioteer chassis was wider than a normal Cromwell so it wasn't as simple as just plonking a bigger turret on a Cromwell. Obviously still quicker though!

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar Před dnem

      That’s interesting. My sources all talk about reworking existing Cromwell hulls to built Charioteer. Conversion hulls were all upgraded to the Cromwell VII standard and had Comet-style fish-tail exhausts. The turret rings were reworked and widened, but there is mention that the limited width of the existing hulls is part of the reason Charioteer’s slab-sided turret is so tall. Upwards, not outwards! I’ll have to do some more reading.

    Loved the video @FogofWar! Can't wait for the next video man! I always remembered that the T28 had one set of Tracks while the T95 "Doom Turtle" had the two sets. Either way, Playing this in any Game can basically be Summed up in the Words of The Mighty Jingles Himself for the Intro to his video on the T95 Doom Turtle for World of Tanks about 10 to 11 Years ago..... "This thing is so incredibly Slow that one of Three Things will happen when you get this into a Match. Either you're so Incredibly Slow that by the time you get Halfway across the Map, The Match is over and the Entire Enemy Teams been killed, Or you're so Incredibly Slow that by the Time you get into a Decent Firing Position, The Enemy Team's killed your entire team and You're next, Or you're going to kill the Entire Enemy Team yourself because your Team is just Dogsh1t." - The Mighty Jingles, World of Tanks T95 "The Doom Turtle", Oct. 2nd 2013. Nonetheless, It would be nice to see how badly they'd Steamroll the Germans or even the Soviets had Winston Churchill gotten Re-elected as Prime Minister and gave the Go Ahead for Operation Unthinkable. A Tech Tree might need to be Developed where the Amount of Successful Research Rolls are Equal to the Points for a Single Type of a Particular Tank Design so that way Players can Gauge their Progress almost like They're grinding in War Thunder. Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video man! P.S. If Team Yankee were to get any New Miniatures with the Timeline going into the 1990's (With the French Leclerc of 1992 arrival now being in the game), Which Vehicles and Aircraft or Helicopters would you like to see in a Later Release?

Really great video to watch especially if you're looking to try and Play them in Team Yankee, Just try to Scale it down as I had even mentioned in my Comment on the video to 1 Inch being 10 Meters or Something like that. The track mounting/dismounting arms were little winches to help get the outer tracks on and off. There are several different mounting points for them on the hull. I know this is from a year ago, but I have a question about Bridge Class: you said that Cromwells are rated at 27, and that's what appears on some BF decal sheets and in some art pieces. But I've seen a number of photos (mostly of the 4CLY in Villers-Bocage) of Cromwells marked with a "30". In fact, I haven't seen any photos of them marked with a "27" and I'm not entirely sure where that comes from. Any clarification / advice for a confused American?

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar Před 23 dny

      Yep. British markings can give you a headache! Confusion is common, so don’t feel bad about it. Bridge Class Numbers were subject to change. The Cromwell prototypes were actually marked “26”. There are pictures of Winston Churchill inspecting one marked this was. Production examples had become a little heavier, so for the D-Day landing and beyond in 1944 they were generally marked “27”. However during service they gained more weight and many in service in 1945 had been re-marked as “30”. I tend to use “27” as my army list tend to be 1944 lists, but “30” is correct too, for later Cromwells.

      @@FogofWar Thank you very much for your reply! It's very informative. There seems to be some inconsistency out there, which is understandable given the complexity of military operations... I was confused because there's a photo dated to June 17th, 1944 (less than a week after Villers-Bocage!) of a 4CLY Cromwell marked with a "30". I guess ultimately the takeaway for a modeler is that if I'm not doing a specific squadron on a specific day, there are a lot of choices that could be justified. I just really don't want to get it so wrong as to be blatantly inaccurate, because I feel like that doesn't do the men who served their proper honor.

    Funny running into this. This was originally a 1:200 cmp truck from m_berman that I rescaled and made a few simple modifications to make a 2pdr portee (the one seen at the beginning of the video). That was then remixed by tinypanzerstudio to make the 6pdr version. I made that so long ago, I really should go back and clean up some things now that resin printers are so common. Things have really come a long way!

    I've got 7 of them. They aren't competitive but there is a way of fielding 6 or 7 in your 100 pt force, using the formation in the Bulge book. There is a command card which lowers the points, you take the in formation AA tanks and if I remember right armoured infantry and the Drilling halftracks. Not a list for tournaments but if you wanted a friendly game with sub par forces, it could be fun

    These are definitely a step up in details over my existing zvezda jagdtiger fleet, which I purchased to replace and retire my older command decision metal jagdtigers (which were not very good models). Rather than replace though, perhaps supplement as the zvezda models are honestly pretty good if lacking in stowage and hatch options. I started a whole German army back in V3 just for jagdtigers; they were extreme and just a trio of them could fill out points in an army list to make a low-model count fun extra army. Now in V4 Bulging Germans, you can make a much bigger, better force including them without it feeling like a gimmick. Particularly, with a command card you can take the 512 company and get a 2 point discount per jagtiger which makes them quite attractive, as you can now afford things like some mortars or volksgrenadiers, or best of all: MORE JAGDTIGERS.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar Před měsícem

      That’s an interesting viewpoint. I consider myself a “historical” player because I try and use lists that align with real units and TO&E. Even tactics where the game system allows it. I suspect you are making a cynical comment about the ruleset. There are certainly abstraction in the game, and mechanics that simplify or abstract real-world tactical considerations. It’s a game, not a simulation. Any game has to decide on a balance it is comfortable with between realism and playability. Clash of Steel and World of Tanks draw this line in different places than Flames of War. You need to find the game system that strikes the right balance for you.

    • @caryhocker
      @caryhocker Před měsícem

      @@FogofWar There are no official Battlefront products that depict historical scenarios/OOBs with any attempt at accuracy and completeness, their products typically ship with/provide as options only tanks and a few support units, many starter sets not even including infantry - not a complete line of products that would allow a true historical OOB at anything except perhaps a very small unit level. If you look at the multitude of pictures of FOW games, and the competition games you can see if you have the opportunity to attend events with FOW players, they look like tank parking lots. I see no attempt at historic realism from Battlefront. I get that it is a game - a non-historical game that uses a subset of actual historical weaponry. I have played FOW more than once and the experience established my opinion. By all means have fun playing FOW if it is your cup of tea, but don't kid yourself about it being historically accurate. Not trying to hate on you, I just thought it highly ironic to hear you say "historical".

      @@Subcomandante73 This depends on how you look at things. If we go stricly by years, Team Yankee is 1984 - around 1995 or lets be generous and say 1990 with a war ongoing tech would have developed faster. So yes, by this Checkpoint Charlie is NOT Team Yankee. But if people say "We want early Team Yankee", most mean, they want a Cold War gone hot with "1. gen" MBTs. The 1. gen/early time line would be Checkpoint Charlie (1961) - Nam (1963-72) and Fate of a Nation 1967. Using that logic 1961 is very early, lets expand shis a bit and say ~1960-75, when Leo 1, M60, T-55 and Chieftains were the new stuff and M48 or Centurions were already getting older (and got upgraded to keep up). With a "mid war" being 1975(+)-1985, when the next generation of tanks entered service, basically what we had for Team Yankee V1. So by the logic of "Team Yankee" early war can not exist, but this is what people want more. In game terms, there is not a staggering difference between a Leopard 2 A4 and A5, but between a Leopard 1 and a Leopard 2 this is the case, so this would be, where a split would be interesting.
