    Missing the Thermal Tracer for the Danish verison. This was a quite prominent feature mounted alongside the main gun.

      Actually, you’re right. And the Swedish version has a sight cover for enhanced optics on top of the turret too.

    I build and painted 3 Centurions for the Danish. By the way: This tank is big!
    The two other kits will become israeli Shot tanks. Luckily before the introduction of the indigenous "Merkava" israeli tanks were "box of brix" tanks often. So hybrid versions were more common than unusual. I will build mine using some 20-pdr guns. The 105mm guns I am planing to use on some Sherman Easy Eight plastic kits to convert them into israeli Super M50/M51 tanks. Lucky me: The israeli Shermans were "Frankentanks" even more

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Are the 105s from the kit going to work for M50/M51s? I thought they were French low-pressure guns with flamboyant French muzzle brakes?

    • @trekanbelluvitsh
      @trekanbelluvitsh Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@FogofWarYou are right. The 105mm gun of the M51 was shorter version of the 105mm gun which was mounted on the AMX-30. Strange enough: On the AMx-30 it had no muzzle break!
      The thing is, that I can't get many Fate of a Nation stuff. So I am going improvise. Gonna put some on E8 models just to show that the IDF material was improvised too for a long time.
      The infantry i.e. had a mixture of american and british WW2 helmets from WW2 - in 1967 at least which is the time I am aiming at.. Even within the same unit. They also had a mixture of weapons. And - again - I can't get the infantry blister. So I will use american an british WW2 minis to create israeli infantry of the 6-days-war 1967

    Australian version should also have the searchlight and second spare wheel for mounting on the front hull.
    Also, Aussie decals, pleeeeeeeeeze!

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey Steve. The searchlight was optional. I'll build my second one with it fitted. The rear left compartment in the bustle stowage rack is specifically for the dismounted searchlight. The second road wheel on the glacis was common. And you're in luck - Battlefront make Centurion decal sets for 'Nam already. I have a couple in my stash. and they are still available for sale.

    The Centurion is just a beast of a tank, I know the T54/55 family is still in widespread service but the Centurion was build to fight and survive and just look at the carnage it caused fielded by the Israelis.

    Battlefront has released a PDF on their website for the israeli Sho't tank in Team Yankee. It is similar to the swdish Strv 104 but has better ratings and the .50 cal which has better ratings and the "Anti helicopter" rule. Thereforr they are more expansive, 3 tanks are 12 pts.

    • @FogofWar

      That PDF is great. I must have a closer look.

    There's no 165mm demo gun for the AVRE version. Which is a pity, as I was thinking of modelling "The Antiques Roadshow" from Operation Granby.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hmmm. That would have been a fun option - but maybe a bit specialised. I wonder of 3D printing or metal manufacturers might make an upgrade kit for that.

    The other glaring omission is the .50 cal AAMG on Danish tanks , also their rear stowage baskets are the wrong shape . Someone posted how to correct the Danish tanks , on the BF FB TY group .

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hey Les. I do remember someone mentioning that. They did get .50 cals in the upgrade. Plus the Danish and Swedish tanks have sights on the mantlet and turret respectively that aren't included. Didn't know about the stowage rack, however. Thanks for that.

    What options from this kit could you use to most closely model a South African Olifant? I thought it would be interesting against the new Cuban forces. Thanks.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 2 měsíci

      I'm not an expert in South African tanks, but it looks like a 20-pdr armed, Meteor-engined build would work as a Mk.1, while a Continental-engined, 105mm-armed would work as a Mk.2. After that, you'd need to 3D-print the correct turret, I think. Hope that helps.

    Did you need any parts from the 2nd spruce for the Australian Mk 3? Possibly this sprue doesn’t need including in certain releases. Possible future proofing for World of Tanks, Clash of Steel etc.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci +2

      That's *very* astute of you. I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. The only Mk.5/1 part on the second sprue is the searchlight. It's optional, but was used by Aussies.

    Surprisingly, the centurion was very short lived in most countries. Britain, Sweden, Israel and South Africa being the ones who used them for a more prolonged time.
    The British only used the 105mm gun for about six years, before withdrawing all vehicles equipped with it, leading them to actually have extremely little development or imput on the 105 past its initial creation, primarily in gun breach changes and ammunition like the German L7A2 and US M68.
    According to archives from US testing, they found the Centurion to be wholesale under powered, the 20 pounder to be unreasonably accurate like the previous 17 pounder firing at armoured targets.
    Having to some of the writers in Shiryon Archive, the Centurion/Sho't generally had major issues with fire controls and after fixing the automotive issues they found great use even today with simply just... Removing the turrets.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Australia kept ours for quite a while. But we’re cheap, and the ADF is a traditionally infantry force. New tanks are never a priority.

      @spamuraigranatabru1149 Před 7 měsíci

      @@FogofWar Fair enough, but they don't quite reach the top 3 as Sweden had them shortly after Australia and hadn't a "propper" replacement till the STRV 122 (STRV 121 was a temprary lease which didn't replace the Centurion)

    I wonder if they reduced the girth of the fume extractor to stop the barrel fouling the hull when you revolve the turret?

    • @FogofWar

      Too much girth can be a problem these days...

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  Před 7 měsíci +1

      A couple of people have mentioned that. I can see why Battlefront wouldn’t include it. It isn’t in their game systems. But the base kit with 3rd party metal parts or 3D printed parts might work.
