Yamaha BB435 "Broadbass" 5-string bass unboxing and demo
Here's the epic tale of how I conquered the "uncanny valley" of Yamaha's guitar and bass design to buy and… *maybe* embrace the BB435, the Indonesian-made, mid-range 5-string bass in Yamaha's "Broadbass" lineup.
We conclude with an original composition called "Invisible Eccentricities," on which I play the BB435, along with a Yamaha Reface CP electric piano and a Yamaha bass clarinet, plus alto sax and percussion.

Fender Jaguar Bass Pickguard Swap* (*Too Long to Be a "Short")

I intended this video to be a 'short'… I even shot it vertically. (Obviously, cropped to a horizontal frame here.) But I just can't shut up, so it ended up being two minutes… twice the maximum length of a short. Anyway… the objective here was just to swap out the stock white pickguard on my Fender Player Jaguar Bass with a new mint green pickguard that would hopefully (and does!) fit better, an...

One of the distinctive features of any live show by my band @32ndStJazz is our wild mashups, and this one may be the wildest. My Squier Bass VI arrived at the height of COVID and the nut was really badly cut and needed to be replaced. Bridge adjustability is pretty non-existent, as you'd indicated, but there are some pretty affordable aftermarket replacements. Mine has a lot of slippage on the low E tuner, so I may be replacing the tuners. The muffling effect of the bass cut is really significant, as you indicated. I really enjoy mine, really unique.

  • @armandosinger
    @armandosinger Před měsícem

    Nice review and demo. Just got one myself. Excellent for the money. So the pickups are actually not standard jazzmaster pickups, but p90s in a jazzmaster pickup housing (which is why you see the screw tops instead of alnico rods). But many consider the p90s better than JM pickups, unless you want a really sparky surfy type of sound. Jazzmasters are also bright because of 1 meg pots instead of 500k or 250k like strats. Apparently the p90s are a good match for these pots. Anyway, mine is great out of the box. I’ll be doing a full setup including leveling and dressing frets, but it really doesn’t need much. The only mod I’m making is to swap the bridge with the Descendant AOM compatible bridge, which is a drop in replacement for the AOM on the JMJM. This is just because I’m picky about matching the radius of the fretboard perfectly (default is 12” radius bridge for a 9.5” radius neck). And the descendant bridge allows to individual action height per string, allowing me to make the treble strings lower than the bass strings.

So it's been vetted. I got mine via order through a local shop, so it had been set up by someone skilled before I ever touched it. I'm not sure the sale price means they're discontinuing them. I understand the frustration. I have a Sire guitar and the electronic gave up quick. This is how Sire gets the prices that low, there's no magic! Apart from the jack socket, did you experience any other issues with the bass?
