  • Now that, I think, I finally have a Fender bass I can be happy with, I'm wrapping up the story of my journey with my realization that the best Fender is the cheapest Fender. Here I'll explain why I think that.
    Chapters:
    0:00 Introduction
0:46 Why I Took this Journey
    1:46 What About Squier?
2:33 So… Just Get Over Fender Already!
4:57 And So to F… (as in Fender)
7:40 The Best Fender Is the Cheapest Fender
    9:59 Outro Jam
Technical side note: Most of the footage used here, aside from the new "And So to F" jam segments, is from previous videos. Unfortunately the external hard drive I stored all of the source files on died, so I had to resort to re-downloading the final videos from CZcams. But those downloads are only 720p. Why? CZcams obviously still stores higher-res video than that, but they don't let you download your own videos at full resolution? Come on! Of course it wasn't until after I posted the video that I dug in and found this: www.cnet.com/tech/services-an...

I found your channel searching for jaguar bass here. Loved your videos and bgm! Keep up the good work!

Reliability is my #1 requirement. Playing live multiple times per week it has to work 100% of the time, which is why I now passive instruments, mainly Precision basses due to two knobs. So far my 10 year old American P-bass is by far my most played live since it has NEVER failed me once and is always the same every time I play it.

I have a Squier P bass that I have had for about 20 years. It plays great, sits well in a mix, and is sturdy. The tone pot is starting to crackle a bit now so I may need to replace it. I bought it in a beginner’s kit for about $200. And yes, it was my first bass, still my favorite bass.

You bring up Squier... I was to buy a Candy Apple Red 60's CV Strat when a Sire S3 hss grabbed my attention. It was an hour (two hours both ways) closer to my front door so I checked on the Sire first...and bought it. No regrets though that Candy Apple Red looks very nice.
Also got a Gretsch G5421 Bourgundy with parlour pickguard, the S3 is Sunburst, just figuring a green Tele or resonator 😮 of some sorts 😃

Haha, I love my player Jaguar bass. I think you increased your odds by getting it from CME. It's already gone through their inspection, and they're happy to return rejects back to Fender. So it's been vetted. I got mine via order through a local shop, so it had been set up by someone skilled before I ever touched it.
I'm not sure the sale price means they're discontinuing them. Strats and teles are also part of that sale.
Cheers! I'm glad you found a winner. I hope it keeps you happy, and you can file off the problematic spot on the neck plate. ✌️

Yeah I’ve mostly been buying stuff from Sweetwater and have been pretty happy, but I got both the Squier CV Bass VI and this Jaguar from CME and I’ve been impressed so far. As for discontinuing, I meant the Player Series in general might be on its way out, not any of the models. But I could be wrong. It would definitely be replaced with something else though, like how the AmPro was replaced with AmPro II.

@@room34 Oh I understand you now. Yes, the Player II series would be very interesting. Both the Pro II and the Vintera II seemed to be improvements in quality. A similar level jump for the Player series would be welcome, indeed.

Like you, I own 4 squiers...an '86 japanese jazz, an '01 korean mb-4, and 2 fsr broncos armed to the teeth with aftermarket upgrades...in their stock form, the japanese one was ridiculously better than the others, but it was more expensive too

Funny thing about this is for several years I owned a hot rod red Japanese Jaguar Bass. I loved that bass and swore I’d never sell it. Well, except for one thing… the active circuit was so noisy I only ever played it in passive mode. That gnawed at me and probably started this whole crazy journey when I sold that bass 6 years ago.

@@room34 That seafoam jag looks sweet...I got too many pj basses already or I'd be really interested in one of those

I have found that the best fenders are the player series also . The American models all have the noiseless pickups which I am not a fan of, of my Fenders my CIJ Fender jazz bass special ( boxer bass) is the best made of all my Fenders.
My Sire basses all have been good and ive had good luck with my Jackson basses. 😊

I love my Sire P5, but it doesn't get played much because I prefer my G&L jazz and my Passive Sterling

Close, but don't they make Fender branded guitar picks too? 😂

I wouldn’t buy a new fender these days… if you’re not going vintage, go second-hand japanese reissue and upgrade the pickups. I’ve a ‘92 made, ‘57 P reissue with a Lollar pickup in. This thing trounces custom shops and old dogs alike. An amazing little bass that often goes cheap 🤷‍♂️
