REPAIRING the Rusty Quarter Panel on My Dentside Ford Truck Bed!
This bed on this F150 is a mess! The old bondo repair is failing badly and it's time to get it fixed. On this week's episode, we dive into how to repair what's already been repaired terribly once. I had to sand most of the bondo out of the bed side, repaint the areas I sanded then finally get the patch panel cut, fit and welded into place. The end result is fantastic! This sheet metal repair makes a huge difference in the overall appearance of the truck bed. I've taken this bed from beat up, ugly and rusty to beat up, ugly and less rusty. You can apply the installation of this repair panel to your F100 or any similar rust repair on your project.

Finding and repairing HIDDEN RUST DAMAGE behind the truck bed quarter panel!
zhlédnutí 203Před 21 hodinou
Well I started this episode with the intention of repairing the heavily damaged lower quarter panel of my Dentside Ford F150 truck bed. Once I cut out the rot I could see, I found a whole bunch more structural rot under bed side. This week I tackle fabricating a sheet metal brace from scratch and repairing rust damage to the underside of the truck bed. Once this is complete I'll be able to tack...

Along the way, I'll see if I can identify what took this engine off the road 26 years ago. There were a few telling clues until we ...

Dentside Ford Short Bed Conversion FINISHED Part 7

It took longer than I planned, but I finally got the short bed conversion completed on the abandoned F150. So I’ve had the 56x24 box since they were released and I love that people are finally making reviews on the series 3 lineup. Personally my issue with them are the drawers feel a little bit flimsy, but other than that it’s the perfect for entry level-mid level tech in a real world scenario since the 56 comes with the power drawer which is decently good to hold some batteries since my big 8.0 high output doesn’t really fit in the small drawer. And for someone just starting out I would say the 42 box or the 5 drawer cart is the best option to start out on. Great video man hope to see more out in the future

    What a crazy amount of bondo! I was sandblasting a tractor hood once and encountered the same thing, it was over 1/2” thick. Really did a nice job with the paint and getting the panels patched in. What’s your plan for the tailgate, will you try to patch it?

      I went with a Wilwood brake kit, part #140-12836-DR. It came with bearings, hub setup, and the rotors and calipers. I had to buy the spindle nuts that bolt the hub to the spindle separately. Fortunately my local O’Reilly’s had plenty of them in stock. Good luck with your build!

    • @CodyBuilds
      @CodyBuilds Před 9 dny

      First off, thanks for watching! I do really appreciate it. When I started this project I knew the look wouldn’t be for everyone. I realize a lot of guys don’t like the patina look. For me there are two reasons to do it this way. First, it’s sentimental. This was never a “nice” truck when my grandpa owned it. It was always a little rough around the edges. I want to preserve as much of that character and history as possible. Second, the exposed weld lines are a bit of a gamble. I realize that is even more polarizing than the patina look probably but it’s a vision I’ve had in my head for awhile. The way I am looking at is, if I don’t like it when the truck is done, I can always go back grind the welds, do the body work and blend the paint. Thanks for asking the question!

      I haven’t personally owned one so I hesitate to give too much advice. They seem to be of high quality from what I’ve seen in the store. It has more storage than the 42” rolling cabinet at the same price so that’s a plus. I would say it’s a good option if you don’t have plans for expanding your storage in the future and you like the option of the open storage on top. My experience with the carts was that the lids were always open so I rarely ever used the top as a work space.

    • @CodyBuilds
      @CodyBuilds Před 14 dny

      Correct. I’m taking an additional 4” off the back to improve (in my opinion) the appearance of the distance between the wheel well and the back of the truck. What vertical wrench storage do you have? I have some of the Toolbox Widget (gift) and I like them but would like more vertical wrench storage and a cheaper option. I've always wanted the 5 drawer cart, don't really have room in my garage to add one though. I do have the cheap service cart, I got it basically for free (gift cards) I have the 42" US General series 2 upper/lower toolbox in blue. I love the chrome trim with it and being a Ford guy, I had to have blue. I wish I had bought the next size up (56?) but that really would've been extreme overkill for my garage. I haven't quite completely filled the 42 yet but it's filled a lot faster than I would've ever guessed.

    That Harbor Freight engine stand is impressive looking, so much more beefy looking than the one Dad has. I haven't watched your video on the Harbor Freight toolboxes yet, I have a Series 2 box that I do really like. I've only been to the store local to me and it's not my favorite store, I'm guessing other stores are better. But overall as a brand and value, HF is growing on me. I bet if that stuck lifter had been a problem, you would've had a bent push rod as well (been there on a 352) luckily Dad knows his way around an FE. Those intakes are ridiculously heavy too! That twisted oil pump shaft is a sight, I don't know what you could do with that thing but I'd at least keep it and hang it on the garage wall. There's no way I'd throw it out though. 66 Shelby Cobra! Love the sexy lines and curves of the body, side pipes, 427, dual quads.

      That’s exactly why I leave the mistakes in and try to explain them. Hopefully I can save someone else some trouble.

    I like the raw weld lines, glad you’re keeping with the ratty “aged” look. She earned it.

    Some projects are worth rebuilding regardless the effort. They're family. Good job.

    Big help! Thank you for doing these. Building a 74 with all the same stuff. 🎉

    That homemade filler panel is a work of art! Well done!

      I know it's not quite the theme of the build, but would you consider bedliner? That would solve the paint issue for the the header and it's still a throwback to a work truck, even if it looks nice and fresh (even though it will be covered, from the sound of it)

      I did some paint matching on some patch panels for the bedside for this week’s episode. The color match was so much better than I anticipated that I’m leaning towards just painting the header panel now. I considered bed liner but I think that will stand out just as much as the fresh paint would.
