I enjoy Eric’s surprise at the conspirators of the Dallas Card show caper haven’t been apprehended as per his predictions. Especially after all his other predictions he has gotten wrong. It’s like he’s the Don Quixote of Nostradumbass predictions.
Hi thanks for sharing. My submission is stuck for a month and they never took the photos I’m worried. All my other submissions came back in a month. Did this ever happened to you?
2:06:20 Carlos rant here is worthy of clipping for the end of the year
👿👿👿👿👿I SHALL GET YOU ERIC 👿👿👿👿👿
Hey Carlos, do you want me to keep an eye out for anything for you at the national?
Thanks for asking Mike. I'm good for the moment. Got some things I'm pursuing in general but nothing urgent
Congrats on the additions
Thanks Josh
Very nice submission. Curious, did you get the new generation PSA slabs or do they feel like the older slabs?
I can take a closer look, but these appear to me to be the previous type holders.
That Britt Baker is a stunner Carlos! Nice submission.
Thank you Ed
Excellent mail day. Where does the Modano Superscript rank in the pantheon of 90s cards for you?
That's a good question... It's a tough pull and a cool card, but I think I might put it somewhere in the bottom of the top 10, or just outside. Lot's of nice inserts and parallels in the 90s, but it might be a worthwhile exercise to try and put together an actual list and see where it would fall
Burnout is just another way of passing the time and saving up for the next great card your going to buy :) From watching the video a few times I think the thieves have done this type of thing before (doesn't have to be cards). Professional thieves could have been paid by someone that knows Ash has a vintage case with huge value in it at the end of each show. But I wouldn't overlook the idea of another "dealer" being involved. A dealer that sets up at shows with Ash has the ability to see how he sets up/tear down and when he walks the show, how he loads up the car, etc. The thieves not in the hobby but the person behind it in the hobby makes a lot of sense to me. Both of the thefts I experienced back in the day involved other dealers. This was long before phones and security cameras everywhere or grading, or even the internet or photos of your cards being easy to keep and share. Even though Ash has these cards graded, I fear its too easy to have many of them slightly altered by the card doctors and you've got a new card. Yes, the 10's become less than 10's and 90% of the value gone but so what. The rest can be slightly modified, regraded and away you go. I just hope Ash gets his cards back. I still remember both thefts. The cards lost. The bums involved and it took a lot of the fun out of travelling and setting up at shows. Its how I built my collection when young and broke. The second theft represented more than a MONTH of what I made at that time in my life, after taxes close to two months. Separately, one thing I thought about the other day when talking with a buddy. We were remembering some of the cards we thought were super cool and made us happy with the pack we had bought. Some of the cards I remembered were the 1976 Topps All-time All Stars, various World Series cards, and the Record Breaker cards that would be issued. We also like the team cards.
authentic human-engineered dinosaur material for the Dino-Might Favre card could be a nice upgrade to this release?
Now we're talking Jay.... I like where your head is at :P

Fun episode, guys. Can't wait for the comfy shoes countdown #scholarship
#scholarship 💯
I agree with Carlos point about you can be very much in the hobby and nobody know who you are What surprises me is all the cameras around Dallas all the CZcamsrs and no one got footage of these guys in the background . I think we have a pretty good idea of what they look like, but I’m surprised more footage has not came out of them. Those guys that sit and record at their table all day. Did these guys not go to some of those tables and casually browse just to kind of blend in? I guess that’s the other thing that I’m not sure of they have footage of them paying at the front. What time was that compared to what time the cards were stolen ? I’m not sure how long they were actually there.
From what we understand it was happening during tear down and they definitely were around for a bit, but hard to say based on what has come out.
@@BecauseImCarlos yeah I agree it happened during tear down but for them to pay to get in they were there before it closed I just don’t think I’ve heard anyone say how long they were there . Interesting
I'm not going to lie, I always assumed Eric was a knife thrower not an arrow shooter
Eric is a complex man of many issues and contradictions. And in fairness, he does have many enemies :P
I may be why the blue were harder to find for a while. I owned 40+ of the blue and 16 of the gold. I am surprised the gold were easy to find for you. I thought only 1 person had all the other gold versions

I concur with your agreement.
Great Video! The Pokémen Men….😂 The Beckett Label 🤣
???? Another video content said that about 165 slabs were stolen. Take a close look at the size of the case taken... Can about 165 slabs fit in the case stolen? It makes you wonder that there is more to this than a simple robbery.
I'm not going to try and approximate the size of a case, but a pretty standard 4 row Pelican case can hold 200 PSA slabs, so that number isn't very odd. You'd have room to spare
Great episode guys!
Thanks Scott! Appreciate it
Thank you.
Piggybacking off what Carlos said about surveillance quality, I think we're at a point, given the increased lawlessness since the pandemic, to upgrade convention and retail security measures to protect sellers and buyers. This is an opportunity for venues that adapt to attract bigger selling conventions. Convention bureaus should make this a top priority.
I think some of the bigger ones can use this as a case study to make some immediate changes to their processes for clearing the room during tear down. That would immediately be an improvement. From there you can look at making security more visible or placed to make this type of heist more problematic.
Great conversation!
Thanks very much
Thank you. We appreciate it.
1. I hope that they catch the bums. 2. I suspect that we'll learn Ash was packing up with his son and got called over. Tells his son to keep packing and the rest is history. That said I can remember several times when my stuff was either packed up or had been unloaded but just sitting behind my table early in the morning and I'd be talking to another dealer 20 feet away and I'd be talking and watching. 3. All the people commenting on how can you not have the cards attached to yourself are forgetting that this is very much a person to person business. Someone expresses interest in a 10K card or is asking about selling that card you speak with them. That is how he got distracted in the first place. I don't know Ash personally, but I'm told he's a genuinely polite guy. 4. I had two serious thefts back in the day when I did shows. BOTH involved dealers. That is how these cards can disappear. A dealer directing some professional thieves to steal the cards makes a lot of sense. The dealer may have a buyer for some of the cards that he knows isn't involved in the hobby and/or purchases expensive raw cards. And he may be willing to pay the thieves 100-200K and sit on the cards. 5. A lot of these cards can be passed off in a couple of years. There are a lot of nice 52 Topps mantles in EX condition that are slightly off center. Lots of lower grade Mantles. Have a card doctor do some work and you've got a new card. Have a reclusive customer that buys raw, and you've in essence buried the cards until the person dies and the cards reappear. 6. You can bring printouts of Iconic cards. But the rest are often impulsive purchases. Getting the card in the hand of the guy that LOVES Stan Musial is a key part of the sales process. Makes it a bit tougher to pass that card up! 7. Stealing at show end has been going on forever. And thirty-forty years ago there were no badges nor security. You just assumed the people walking around at 8:30 am or 5:15 pm were dealers. I remember shows where albums, boxes, cases all disappeared as dealers packed up. 8. If the cards are never recovered Ash will remember that guy he was talking to for the rest of his life. 30+ years on and I still remember the bums that stole from me. Surprisingly one set of bums I mainly felt sorry for (it was a married couple). The other set of bums.... well, I can still swing a two by four pretty good! And sadly but not surprisingly both involved dealers set up at the show. And the second theft was the larger one and it went a long way towards me stopping setting up at shows. Took a lot of the enjoyment out of it. 10. Back in the mid 70's, there were two stamp dealers that were followed from a show and their van - containing 4-5 MILLION dollars of stamps was stolen while they ate at a Howard Johnson's on the way home. Turns out it was the mob that conducted the theft. The police eventually caught the guys that stole the van but the stamps were lost forever. Hopefully that isn't the outcome here.
Thanks Dave. Appreciate the thoughts and insight as always
One thing I’ll say about the camera quality is it looks like someone is showing it recording on their TV . I don’t think it’s as bad as it looks. Dallas has big screen TVs where security sits there and watches everybody. Still tough to see everything though I don’t want to play Monday morning quarterback on the situation but I’ve been to Dallas looked at cards at those exact tables several times . Some people make comments about how could you set a case down and walk away from it. This was during tear down the public isn’t supposed to be there , so in theory if only dealers were there they would have record of exactly who is there….. I feel like someone really dropped the ball in the fact that these non -dealers non - staff was their during tear down , because dealers probably have a false sense of security thinking the general public is not there
That was key to our discussion. There is an element that only authorized folks should have been there by that point. Leaving stragglers invites potential issues.
@@BecauseImCarlos yeah I’m more going off some of the other comments I read. Not what you guys said. I don’t know the answer, but the amount of money people are bringing into these shows. It just has to be a safer environment.
You guys covered this the best and talked in more broad terms. Other videos I have seen were more people playing detective with the security clips. Appreciate you guys.
Appreciate that. We tried to just give some observations and what we could add from our experiences. We'll leave more speculation to others and we'll see like everyone else what comes of all the attention this one has been getting.
Thank you very much. Appreciate it.
Saw a doc once about how there is the secure "black box" building attached to Switzerland, at the French border. Anything that goes in there becomes invisible to all authorities except for the managers of this black box (I believe it is something like a freeport, so commercially speaking it is not located in either country). Rumour has it that, in totality, it holds by far the most valuable assemblage of art anywhere. Organised crime groups hold paintings there and occasionally swap them as part of deals they make with other groups. I wonder if someone has set up similar holding somewhere for sportscards. Maybe there is a "black box" section of COMC?😄
There are some processing jokes that come to mind here. Although I do love the premise. Maybe they could use the super, special machine to process those items :P
saw this dealer at Philly show; great experience with him and great inventory, shame this happened; did notice at that Philly show he had a huge old-school vault behind his table
Thanks for the additional context. Hopefully they can recover the cards with some lessons learned.
47:20 - Repacks are the most likely way to sell stolen vintage cards. it will be interesting to see what happens.
Vintage repacks with these cards involved would be a dead giveaway.
@@blueodumAgree. Have to remove these cards to sell them.
38:00 are you recommending a non-fumigable tokens that would appear to look like the card or slab? Maybe the PSA scanned image? BIC NFTs

His powers are not to be trifled with....
Mission accomplished....almost 😮
I understand psa can’t authenticate every single card that’s in a slab, but they can certainly identify what’s egregiously NOT authentic. Let’s not lose common sense/the obvious in all of this.

They had just ran Marshawn. An incomplete pass stops the clock. A completed pass is a TD. A stuffed run takes your last time out. A pass there was the right call, it just needed to be a less risky pass, is all.
