The Keyless Chuck Is Good, But It Has A Problem (Dremel #4486)

Check Out The Keyless Chuck Here: amzn.to/3UjZ3Uw The keyless chuck makes it easier to change bits in your rotary tool. The keyless chuck works similarly to the chuck on a cordless drill. We no longer have to depend on collets when using bits with smaller shank sizes than 1/8" (3.2mm). The keyless chuck can be used with "all" rotary tools. I think sanding drums and sanding discs are what people use for that. Maybe grinding stones as well, but they might produce more heat. Using lower RPMs also helps to reduce heat buildup.

    Enjoyed that; I think we are still allowed to enjoy tech stuff. Those Dremel small diameter collets are interesting. The bore seems poorly centred. Have you noticed? Usually collets are used for greater accuracy over chucks; and with high speeds, so to reduce the spinning peripheral mass. But again: have a look at the small collet. Have been hoping to set up a drill press with an x/y table. Are the tolerances good enough? Thanks; and again, enjoyed video. Don't go 'a-viking'.

    • @rotarycrafts8760
      @rotarycrafts8760 Před dnem

      Thanks. I will look into the collets to see if I can make it center better. There is a little bit of play when using the drill press setup. So it is not the best for high accuracy work where keeping true 90° is important. But it is good enough for hobby work.

    • @petert9749
      @petert9749 Před dnem

      @@rotarycrafts8760 Thanks for that. Tolerance in drill press is much as I thought it would be. Looking into the collets is dead easy: simply view end-on. The effect does not seem to be a viewing angle error. It really surprised me; presumably it is still there. There seems to be little chance of truing it up. So long as safety and conservatism are foremost, and conservatism - same noun - is followed, especially with load and speed, the tool is very good. As I understand it, full wattage is supplied only at full speed. Thanks again.

    I recently had to begin learning how to use a Dremel (4000ish) to do some very fiddly wood shaping. My recommendation: Fix your work piece using a vise or clamp. Double-sided adhesive tape for small pieces also works. Use both hands to hold the Dremel (even using a flex shaft) and have one hand rest on a solid support with the other hand moving the Dremel. Oh, and eye protection, eye protection, eye protection. I had one of these cutting disks shatter as shown in the video. PS: So that is how you use these white cottony disks.

    It is Torx 8, not Torx 9 (at least for for my Dremel 8260). Although Torx 9 fits barely, it's head does not reach the bottom of the Torx hole and can easily cam out.

    I don't have a 4000 or 4300 in my country we have a 4250 is that the one you call 4300? Is it better or worse than the 4000? We also have a 3000 I tried it I thought it sucked but idk if I used it wrong. We also have a Dremel lite 7000 something is that one better than 3000? I want something that can carve in stone and make holes in stone and into wood and the 3000 couldn't do any of those barely. Is it because I used the tools on stone first and "destroyed them" so they can't be used on wood now? Do I need those fancy diamond bits for stone usage?

    • @rotarycrafts8760
      @rotarycrafts8760 Před 13 dny

      Hi. The 3000 should be fine for grinding stones. But it is a slow process. You can find cheap diamond bits on amazon. The 4250 is stronger than the 3000. Use diamond bits, and apply water to the cut to reduce friction and overheating. And please wear a respirator or at least a dustmask. The dust from some rocks can be bad for your lungs.

    It would when been nice if you gave more information about where you brought the blades, manufacturer, and why you own numerous sizes if this blade is super dangerous. Unless I missed it, you gave zero information about your rotary tool and it’s speed setting. I may be wrong but after decades of using a myriad of saws and grinders/die grinders, I feel like your over exaggerated the kickback. It all fairness, your opening proclamation of how evil the bit was may have steered me in that direction. I am undecided on whether or not you pushed the blade down too much to cause it to bog down. That “lock your doors” opening again no doubt. You come across like you have an agenda when mentioning the danger (click bait, deemed kickbacks). It’s clear you are not after watching more. opening does make you come across opening certainly did sway my thinking, just probably not what you intended. Most importantly, why did you make no mention of RPMs of circular saw to cut wood versus rotary tools. That’s my second biggest complaint here. My first is the fact the Dremel Woodcutting bit is my absolute favorite, and easily most used. This video does not convey the Dremel woodcutting bit’s versatility and efficiency.

      Hi. The most powerful Dremel rotary tool is by far the cordless Dremel 8250/8260. This is also relatively quiet and low on vibration. The 4000 and 4300 are the most powerfull corded ones. My favorite is the 4000. I use it mainly for woodcarving. You could also check out the FOREDOM tool. This is more powerful than these handheld rotary tools, but a little bit of a different tool. Use a ball shaped diamond coated bit or the Dremel diamond coated drill bit, spray water frequently in the hole while cutting so it does not dry out and overheat. And drill slowly, it will probably take a few minutes depending on the size of the rock.

    There is a tool that has more power than any Dremel, if you really need to step up to a professional level, but still need to use 1/8th inch Dremel bits. Foredom are industrial strength flex-shaft tools with power ratings measured in terms of horsepower (1/3, 1/10, 1/5) . They are a lower RPM, but far higher torque, running at a single speed and turning in only one direction. They have multiple detachable handpieces used for different diameter shaft bits (1/8th ", 1/4" ) as well as adjustable chucks and foot-switch controllers. They last for many years - we have used the same one in our shop since 2005. We also found that using a Dremel all day made our hands numb due to the vibration, so we switched over to Korean-made micromotor tools that ran smoother and faster. The real Korean tools are extremely expensive - The Chinese copies are cheaper and of far lower quality. They get hot very quickly, are noisy and vibrate more. Use real Korean micromotor tools if you buy one. They are worth the cost.

    I've had a Dremel Multitool Pro #395 (10k to 37k) for around 20-odd years. The chuck is nearly worn out, and the button to unlock the shaft is really stiff, but it has worked every time I've needed it. It was made in Mexico, not sure if that is normal. It is easily my oldest power tool. Nice video. I might upgrade soon. $0.02

    I think Dremel tools were safer than others , because it has the improved engineering design , but because of the high speed, we have to be better cautious .

    Can you get into screw holes to get out rust?

      They have steel brushes in more pointy shapes. Might be able to get into screw holes with that.

      @@rotarycrafts8760 will need to look them up, I got one but it's like a mushroom head, so not good for small circular holes.
