SWAPMEET HOT ROD ENGINE OVERHAUL - PART 4
In this episode, we continue our journey of building Celyna’s small block Chevy engine. With the fresh paint now perfectly dry, it's time to start assembling the engine. We begin by carefully attaching the oil pan using a 1-piece MALEH gasket and follow the precise torque sequence to ensure a leak-free seal.
Next, we move on to installing the intake manifold, applying Permatex shellac to secure the gaskets and prevent any issues down the road. To make our work easier, we place the engine on a floor stand, setting the stage for the final assembly.
Join us in this relaxing, methodical process as we inch closer to the moment we fire up the engine in our next video. Enjoy the calming visuals and detailed steps of our engine-building adventure!

Where did you find the 9 finn valve covers? hard to find !!
That is why i went with the four bar system easier to adjust the axle.
Great choice 32 roadster !!
Nah gotta rock the orange and chrome
Maybe one day… I have an engine in mind but have 2 more to finish 🤘🏽
Why use a chrome timing cover then scuff and paint it? And youre going to do that....why not scuff the mating surface of it before the rtv?
Mainly don’t line running chrome timing cover since they are nearly impossible to stay clean/clean them. Scuffing the chrome is a RTV trick that I didn’t know about till people started to comment it… that’s the great part about YT… you learn!
Another joke
I’m loving those old Fords . ❤🎉🎉❤
You and I both 🤤
@@calirod my old man was a model T guy . He had old trucks and Cadillacs and other stuff. He had a bucket T when I was a kid. I miss that one. I wish I could bring him and all the hot rods he had over years , back again.👍
Watch this video when it first came out but missed the part about the engagement. Belated congratulations on ya’ll’s engagement 💍🍾🎊🎉❤
Thanks David! We appreciate you taking the time. Both looking forward to the journey ahead 👌🏽
As long as you take the time to build it correctly, it might turn out at a higher quality than most. And remember to do your bolt checks after too!😂 nobody likes finishing an engine and having leftover pieces in the box! Haha!
Been there a few times! Scratched my head until the light bulb goes off and realize were I messed up!
Love garage built motors. Good call on the old school Corvette valve covers.
Thanks David 👌🏽🤝🏽
That open manifold with those nuts made me NERVOUS
lol me too! it was the first thing I mentioned to her and she gave me the solid confirmation nod I needed.
Smart! Very good technique
@@pauldavis5432 na the way they use both wrenches 🔧 to use opposing force to drive the bolt in without the extra nut 🔩
you are referring to the caption. well noted and agreed... at the end of the day it has to be fun... it can be frustrating or challenging every once in a while... but has to be 80% fun.
Corny
the song? a little too on the nose ?
@@calirod Not brave enough to run the orange? Bro come on😂 Just say black looks nicer why to act like the orange color would turn your car into a Prius?
@@kinanalhawat6753 ahhh... you do know what its going in right :) , its a 32 ford with no hood or hood sides... so the engine color is very visible. Orange would be period correct, and what should be on the car for a late 50s/early 60s drag car but like I said... not brave enough to run it.
Good job using primer.
Paint thinner too? WOW shit falls off huh
Yeah, it helps a bunch… messy but worth it 🤘🏽🤝🏽
@@calirod good idea scoring it and scratching it so the paint stripper or thinner gets through. Well done. I don’t see good work like that often, car guy to car guy 10/10 Well done and even better showing them how it’s done!
I appreciate that my man 🤝🏽 cheers
Have fun finding oil leaks
In a roadster, it’s easy…. Nothing is in the way 😅👌🏽
coming along nicely
Slowly but surely 🤝🏽
I'd be afraid to do a pan gasket on Edna's flathead
Only one way to learn… I think you’d surprise your self! 👌🏽
Awesome watching this. Did you start with a kit or is it all original stuff?
Thanks man! It’s all repop stuff 😅 feel like I have to pave my way to an all original build through a component build.
@@calirod just went back and watched all your build. Awesome. Looking to build a 32 5 window. Like your approach of one piece at a time. Very informative and inspiring.
Thanks Rodney ! I appreciate you taking the time. Best of luck with your build …many of us are happy to help with any questions 🤝🏽
Long time between visits.... Welcome back... 👍👍
Thanks! Thanks for coming back… one day we might be able to get on a normal cadence of videos 🤞🏽
Welcome back !!!!
Thanks John! Taking little steps when we can but steps non the less! 😅
Lookin' good!
Slowly but surely! Thanks David
Good morning from Vancouver BC 😎
Good morning ! Thanks for watching 👌🏽
Nicely done. Just found your channel and I subscribed. Diggin' the coverage of Celyna's rod too.
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Cheers !
That chrome timing cover is most likely leaking and paint flaking off by now 😔😞
Hope not! Scuffed it, primed it so fingers crossed 🤞🏽
@@calirod hoping the same with my differential cover, 73 nova I just got has chrome oil pan, chrome valve covers, chrome timing cover, and chrome diff cover I'm currently taking apart to fix all the leaks
I had a engine built by a speedshop and he paints all his blocks "gunship grey" unless you insist otherwise. I asked his why. He showed me a couple examples of different colors with oil leaking on them. Grey stuck out like crazy. He said " do you want to know where it's leaking or not? My engine is grey
I can confirm… my 32 is grey and manages to look clean but easily spot any issues (can a leaky valve cover once )
Shortcuts shortcuts shortcuts smh
Which ones?! Do tell!
Orange adds 50HP why did you remove it😂
😅😂
Should be in the lobby of hotnrod magazine on display
Indian Head Gasket sealer
Painted My recent build with bright ford blue ....doesn't leak a drop
👏🏽👏🏽👌🏽
graet looking frame and suspension.is that that front something you sell?it looks like an axle i saw at Roadster Supply as well?thanks.Greg
Thanks… it is the same axle as roadster supply…we use the same supplier 👌🏽 happy to help with parts if needed
@@calirod thanks,i looked on the Calirod website, there's not much there for parts?a few crossmembers.i'm trying now to order a new frame, waiting on some answers from Brookville and another supplier but i'll be needing everyhing for axle, suspension and on and on.
@@user-bh5mp5cm9p Thanks for the response... if youd like you can email me at bnunez@calirod.com then I can share my cell phone number with you and help with what ever I can and better explain over the phone. Hope to get your email soon. Thanks!
very nice,is this a Brookville frame?was it built with stamped frame rails or pieced together and welded up rails?very nice.i'm starting another 32 now.
Thanks! Yes I believe it’s a Brookville before TCI started to build their frames … looks like the rails are stamped 👌🏽
Why not chevy blue
Not many people know about those few blue years for GM 😅👌🏽
All factory gm engines I've seen were alway blue
@barnhartservices3274 there's a special shde I'm talking about during tri power era
interesting, I recall seeing old ads with orange unless it was in that early 70's era when they went to blue, even on their bowtie logo then reverted back to orange after some Ford backlash.
@@calirod it was the tri five era
Rocker covers gotta be chromed, will look 🔥
Thinking natural satin aluminum at the moment 👌🏽🤘🏽
Nice to see your progress. Congrats on the engagement. Careful you don't damage the setting and lose the rock while you're wrenching!
Thanks David! Ring comes off when the tools come out 😅
Great Job explaining. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Paint it black and put it back
Black it is… already painted… full videos are live 🤘🏽👌🏽
Awesome I did exactly same but went form black to orange 😅😊
Brave man!
Glad you painted the block back. After seeing 69 years of orange blocks (1955-present) I’m tired of seeing them orange in anything other than a restoration. At 78 years-old black is my favorite color and my 2nd Gen LT4 is black, and my LS3, LSA, and LS7 engine blocks are all natural aluminum, of course. Good thing you tore the engine down and checked everything. I have seen a crate engine direct from Chevrolet Performance Parts come with a missing main bearing and another engine had some loose rod bolts, not sure how those things could happen. Good luck with your project - I enjoy your videos.
Thanks for taking the time David! I appreciate the support 🤝🏽
Hey boss that’s looks great. Fantastic choice of music!! Great video
Thank you very much!!
Reminds me of skibidi toilet
I might be to old for this reference 😬
@@calirod I'm just joking
@@BananaMonkeys2618 sounds good!
Good job 👍🏼
Thanks!
Sorry, the original GM headers are cool. Like the exhaust tucked going out the rear underneath the vehicle.
Me too, so especially when you have the alternator mounted on them... thinking about keeping them for a tri power, 327 but its just a "want" at the moment :)
I like that all he shows is painting it so it looks pretty but not the overhaul. #ViceGripGarage approves
Were you expecting a rebuild ?
@@calirod An overhaul is replacing all the seals and gaskets. Which you probably did, but not shown in this short. VGG paints an old motor and with each pass exclaims something like “Ooh! New bearings! “
got it, we are on the same page... check out the other shorts or the full videos to see the full overhaul.
Thanks for sharing. You are a natural! 50
Thanks David! Working on the SBC for Celyna then telling that story next 👌🏽🤝🏽
Incredible collection!!! Green Track Nose T, is my fave’😎 Was just there July 3rd, so missed this opportunity but still an awesome place.
Mine too! That green T is one of Hot Rod Ranch creations and makes me want one every time 😅
frames and control arms boxed truck ball joints extended rear links...are some of the mods... My co-worker has an 84 Caprice that is juiced. And yes they do break them.
If you’re not breaking it you’re not pushing it enough 😅
❤️❤️
Thanks 🙏
Yes they are drivable. reinforced frames and driveshaft modification.
I’m assuming if they are able to hit bumper they likely don’t drive… one of these doesn’t have a core support in it and the other came off a trailer
Very informative.
Thanks David! Looking forward to continuing the build and sharing as much knowledge and also some mistakes along the way 😅
