- Join us in this for the final steps of this old engine teardown adventure as we tackle the daunting task of disassembling an early Ford Flathead V8 engine. This iconic engine had a unique challenge awaiting us, with every single piston stubbornly rusted and seized to the cylinder walls. Watch as we employ various techniques to free the pistons, including the creation of a custom tool using steel pipe found in homes, and a heavy hammer to drive the pistons out. The process wasn't without its setbacks, as some pistons met their demise in the fight.
But the surprises didn't stop there! As we dove deeper into this classic Flathead V8, we uncovered several cracks along the cylinder walls. These cracks are notorious issues in Flathead engines, and we're on a mission to see if they can be salvaged and brought back to life. Only time will tell what the future holds for this iconic piece of automotive history. Don't miss this exciting journey of restoration and discovery as we resurrect the Flathead V8! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Been there many times, about to bust down another. Sooooo many of these flattys were tossed because they looked like this.
Sweet video and background tunes!
Thanks man, I appreciate that.
Hope you can salvage and get this engine up and running. We have a lot of French flat heads from military stock but there not cheap. And a solid good running engine are big pounds. Dollars. Enjoying your calm approach to this block. With the valves and now the pistons. Hope the weld repair works as well. Cheers Tim.
Thanks for the kind words Tim! Fingers crossed 🤞
Good Luck on your project!
Thanks! I’m going to need it!
Good job, I'm following.
Thank you 🤝🏽
Good job, looking forward the final result.
Thank you! I am hoping the block is able to be sleeved and salvaged
@@calirod fingers crossed 🤞
It'd be cool if you could collaborate with JAMSI to try and rescue this block.
I’ll look it up!
I like how jently and tender Brian manipulete with the engine and its parts. Even when hammering out the seized pistons.
Hello from Russia! Subscribed.
(Please check your sound - it is kinda dull and muff.)
Hello! And yes for some reason in this video it was an issue compared to others. Thank you!
Success!!!!
indeed! now hopefully we can save the block
With those pistons hitting the main journals. That is the same problem as with the sbc. But another great video. 😊
Thanks man! Really appreciate the support!
personally, i'd buy a metric ton of evap-o-rust and soak the entire block, then try. that stuff is brilliant (if not as fun as using a hammer)
Lol… yeah I figured by the time I spent the money on the tank, fluid then the headache of trying to get rid of it…
Just use a hammer 😄
Great job! Me and my two boys are trying to free up an old flathead six that is in a 51 shoebox on our channel right now. Somebody took the head off of it and then left the car sitting in a field for 30 years. Cylinders number one and two are pretty roached. We’ve got a whole bunch of shorts on our channel showing everything we’ve tried to free it up so far, with no luck. I really hope that I can free it up without tearing it apart because all we want to do is film a will it run video on it before yanking it and dropping in a 302. Good luck on the Flathead! I have subscribed and will be interested to see if you can save her!
That is awesome! best of luck !
@@calirod thanks! I’m definitely going to put something together out of galvanized like you did with that reducer coupling. I’ll probably form a rounded block of wood to go into the bottom end of the reducer to sit against the piston and try to gently tap it while trying to rotate the crank to free it up. Thanks for the idea!
happy to help! @@DownSouthRustyClassics
You should use electrolysis to clean the block . Should clean up nice
A few people recommended that … keeping it in mind next time
For anyone wondering how much money he would have made from all of these videos so far; Less than £10. He's just being humble when he says " worst case I got 4 videos out of it "
Don’t forget to count the CZcams shorts 🤘🏽
@@calirod CZcams really doesnt pay enough, its a joke...
Also please get a better mic, it will make your videos so much more enjoyable to watch.
Yeah, there a lot of variables that affect home much you can make but I will say I am having fun and enjoy seeing the positive comments and growth! Thanks … we’ll noted! You are not the first to mention it so I will put it on the Christmas list!
Except for the Crack in that one cylinder the block looks salvageable you can always sleeve that cylinder
I hope so but after further inspection so far 5 cylinders have cracks 😬
Then sleeve all the cylinders 😂
@@builderpaul that’s the plan! Might as well do all 8 👌🏽
You're obviously going to need fresh parts, and a lot of work, but i'm sure that block will run again.
Indeed, I did find some major cracks on the block that may not be fixable but I do have a bit of a surprise for those following along with the series
the agony continues ... those poor clips 😱😱😱😱😱
They wouldn’t budge… well like 2 did
Im first to comment😂
