Hakodate Main Line will be separated from JR Hokkaido when the Hokkaido Shinkansen will open to Sapporo in the spring, 2031. The Hakodate Main Line may be converted to the bus between Oshamambe and Hakodate because the passenger demand is extremely low. However this section is very important for freight trains. The one big advantage for Tokyo is serving Shinjuku station! Shinjuku is the BUSIEST station in the world and MOST of Tokyo is in the WEST side of the city, not the East and South. I know it would be expensive, but I think there is still a benefit for Tokyo as well.

  • @TheNewGreenIsBlue

    @JPRail do you think it was a mistake to sacrifice speed to put Tokuyama station closer to the city centre or do you think it doesn't matter that much? Is the convenience of the station more important than the performance of the line? I'm sure Tokuyama residents prefer the station to be convenient, but if it were built today, I think they would probably just tunnel and make the track alignment closer to 4000m again.

    While I believe that Shinkansen is far superior to most European so-called high speed services, there is one things the Europeans do that the Japanese Shinkansen doesn’t do and should do: having separate tracks for fast trains and slow trains. The Tokaido Shinkansen could be vastly improved if the Nozomi were allowed to operate on separate tracks from the Kodama, for example. How realistic is such a construction project?

    • @TheNewGreenIsBlue
      @TheNewGreenIsBlue Před 2 měsíci

      That's what the regular lines are for... which are narrow gauge. Japan is a country of mountains, remember. Kodama are not SLOWER trains (usually) they just make more stops. European trains are standardized to standard gauge, so they can share tracks when they enter stations. Japanese trains can not ( apart from in Kansai where there are more standard gauge tracks, I suppose)

    japan needs to learn from places like the uk that shutting down "unprofitable" railways is a grave error when there are 3 road conections and 1 rail connection to honshu its no surprise that times are tough. why not make the freight trains faster? then it would be easier to separate running times (or possibly not need to). if the narrow gauge is the problem for speed, why not use a gauge change train? you could make JR feight more competitive and speed up the shinkansen services. fast freight is on my mind because the uk has just received the first class 93, which is to be used for 160km/h freight for more timetable slots (and on remaining locomotive passenger trains) thank you for the video. was very fun and educational for me.

    Well I guess that's why Narita is a poor shithole and no one is interested in the area. They shot themselves in the foot because no one is gonna want to develop anything there, and this is why people are leaving the countryside for cities because countryside governments are dumb and closeminded.
