Spirited Porsche Road Trip Pyrenees 2024
991 GT3, 997 GT3, 991 GTS, 997 Carrera S x 2, 996 C4S, Boxsters x 3... Nine Porsches travelled from Plymouth to Santander on a 22 hour ferry and then sped to Jaca in the Pyrenees to then spend two days taking a spirited drive through the mountains, across the French border via the clouds, wild horse hazards and with a full nine car police stop on the way.
This is the Porsche community personified. Great cars, great people, great times.
'The best road trip I've ever been on, on roads that were almost literally to die for' says Russell Quirk.

The most unloved, underrated and undervalued Porsche 911 ever

Why is the Porsche 911 SC so cheap? In recent years the price of air-cooled 911s has soared, especially the 964 and the 993. Some now fetch £100k plus in the UK. So why is the 1978 to 1983 'Super Carrera' so underrated? (Is that really what the SC stands for? Watch and find out). Why can you still just about buy one for under £40,000? But how long will these bargain-basement Stuttgart classics ...

Porsche Le Mans Winner Richard Attwood Won't Answer This Question

At this year's Porsche Club Great Britain Christmas Event we caught up with Porsche racing legend Richard Attwood. Why a legend in a world where that word is so overused? Well, because he was the first ever winner of Le Mans for Porsche (1970) and because he drove in a time when in each season three to four top motor racing drivers would die each year. HOW is he still alive? No seatbelts. And t...

The SC was born, developing 180hp, and was to close the existence of the 911. The SC succeeded the 911 Carrera (which produced 200hp). Then, thanks to the 911 faithful, who shunned the 944 and 928, Porsche changed its mind, and went back to developing the SC, successively increasing it to 188, then 204hp, before handing over to the Carrera 3.2L, which developed 231hp. So, the first SC is a regression of the Carrera 3.0L, and deserves to be called a Sub-Carrera ! 😉

I've just bought a scruffy 3.2 Carrera, so not exactly the subject here but definitely closely related.. I would have been equally happy with an SC but this one came up at shed money. Any it's brilliant, to me the impact bumpers don't detract from the looks in way a rubber bumper MG does, and from the second I get in turn the key there is nothing that compares to the feel and sound of an air cooled 911. It's fast enough, and properly involving to drive and I hope to keep it for as long as possible

I’ve just sold a 997 which is a great car, but it’s not the same as air cooled raw driving.

The profit margins on these restomods must be beyond ridiculous. Yes they are beautifully made, detailed and have some reasonable engineering input. However I believe the curve of diminishing return to value would be beyond vertical 😂. I mean for considerably far less money one could get a GT Porsche, with amazing performance and enough change to buy the lady a few more Tiffany diamonds rings 🤗

It’s about enjoying these cars for their sheer beauty and engineering marvel. I get a thrill out of each one. It's not only marketing strategies. It's simply the building quality. I watched many videos about Singer and the attention to detail is exquisite and the variety of options at all levels, seats, engines, finishes, stereos, colours, etc is huge and flawless in terms of how the cars are made. In the other hand, I watched Harry's garage video about this Theon resto mod and despite the engine bay was great to work on, the engine itself was amazing and the noise glorious, the design was clearly a copy of Singer, and the inside materials cheap looking, not to mention that the steering wheel and the shifter were anything but sharp, not only cheap looking despite apparently was an italian Nardi but completely loose, it looked like it moved a few inches before the wheels did anything, and so on, so, it is not only the brand strategies in terms of PR and marketing, it's the car itself, how it's made and sorry Theon, your cars depreciate and Singer go up in price because Singer are way better in every aspect. Period.
