  • Singer, Tuthill, Rennsport... Look away now if you've bought a Theon.
In a previous video Russell Quirk talked about the difference in NEW car price between backdate Porsche 911s from the various British restomod companies. There's a huge difference between the 'top' and the 'bottom' of these price lists with Singer now commanding $800,000 for a Turbo Study and over $1m for a DLS. Others like Tuthill require £800,000 to let you drive away in a 911K yet Theon is £400k ish and Rennsport even less at £250k plus.
But what of the USED market?
Here Russell discusses two very recent market examples and the COLOSSAL gap between a SINGER's resale value and that of a THEON.
What can the 'others' do about this resale deficit? Well, it's all about brand 'in it'?

It's not only marketing strategies. It's simply the building quality. I watched many videos about Singer and the attention to detail is exquisite and the variety of options at all levels, seats, engines, finishes, stereos, colours, etc is huge and flawless in terms of how the cars are made. In the other hand, I watched Harry's garage video about this Theon resto mod and despite the engine bay was great to work on, the engine itself was amazing and the noise glorious, the design was clearly a copy of Singer, and the inside materials cheap looking, not to mention that the steering wheel and the shifter were anything but sharp, not only cheap looking despite apparently was an italian Nardi but completely loose, it looked like it moved a few inches before the wheels did anything, and so on, so, it is not only the brand strategies in terms of PR and marketing, it's the car itself, how it's made and sorry Theon, your cars depreciate and Singer go up in price because Singer are way better in every aspect. Period.

I’m guessing the wealth of the lucky individuals who can order these restos dictates the list v resale price? Most are bespoke in one way or another to the original client. So elaborate trim, paint would put people off on resale. But I agree Russell, Singer is now more like RUF, a stand alone brand. The others nowhere near that yet IMHO

    Theon was also RHD.

Yes that’s a good point. Restos are very much international. The HK being RHD restricts the auction market

When I say HK, to clarify it’s a Hong Kong car, so RHD. But yes so many variables in this market. Not like being top of the queue of a new GT3RS. Not a speculative market. But an interesting subject, never heard anyone comment on the used elite resto market

Theon doesn't have the same pedigree as Singer
