Ideum (www.ideum.com) is a creative company focused on using emerging technologies to design public installations and products that lead to compelling visitor experiences. Ideum’s multidisciplinary team includes industry professionals from a diverse set of backgrounds within the world of interactive exhibit development. We believe that interactive exhibits provide unique opportunities for storytelling and visitor interaction around meaningful topics and content.
Animated Interactive Touch Wall for Chelan County PUD Promotes Utility Savings and Conservation
Ideum developed a permanent exhibit for the new Chelan County Public Utility District Service Center in Wenatchee, WA. Through an experience drawing children and adults alike, the community can engage with their local utility in a fun, interactive way to learn more about Chelan County PUD as well as energy and water conservation.
The interactive enlightens adult visitors about various potential energy savings in their home or small business, with an emphasis on Chelan County PUD’s rebate programs. When highlighted interactive items are tapped, pop-ups appear that may include video, images, text, and links to learn more. Visitors can email and text information to themselves from within the application, or find print materials located nearby.
On the lower part of the screen, younger visitors may interact with a coloring game, a balancing game about how much energy different home appliances use, and a fast-paced game in which they correct the energy and water-wasting antics of a messy Sasquatch.
Ideum designed all the custom animated illustrations to capture the character of Chelan County. The experience even evolves with the seasons, as the changing weather makes different energy-conservation tips more relevant. Ideum also designed and illustrated the rug to match the onscreen visuals.
Ideum programmed the interactive software in Unity and built a custom content management system using Directus, designed so the PUD can easily change the experience’s season and update or toggle the informational pop-ups.
