Mine starts and runs fine but it’s outputting 190v any ideas?
Could be that the RPMs are a bit low, with a good load on it (such a 500w halogen light), on the front panel meter, it should be 50Hz on low speed and 60Hz on high (latter's for "smooth" lighting), I forget where the speed is adjusted but it's a simple process of turning a screw, I think it's near the speed switch inside the rear cover, there is of course the other issue of failing diode packs on the rotor as mine had, which is a very in-depth repair job, but I can only make guesses not seeing the generator in person...
Hi mate I've got a Ryobi expand it and using it the blade caught something and stopped working. When I try to move the blade with long nose pliers it will move slightly as i turn left / right but just stops moving. Any ideas? Cheers Bill
Sounds like something may have broken internally, maybe broke a gear tooth or something when it jammed up, it'd need opening up to have a look inside to be sure though...
To check my choke, I heated it with a small blowlamp. The bimetal strip functioned perfectly and opened the choke once heated up…… might be a good idea to suggest doing this first, maybe?
Thank you for this! It cured all my starting and running problems!
Glad it helped, those auto-chokes aren't very good on these engines!
It must've topped itself due to a very unbalanced spin
The lower concrete block falling off was the problem, the mounting point broke and let the block loose, and without it in place, even a normal load would shake a washer to bits...
Mine dose this some times
Starting is much easier if you clamp the handle between your thighs.
Placing a saw between one's legs is a sure-fire way to suffer an injury if something were to go wrong, my preferred technique since this vid is to push the saw away as I pull on the starter, works every time, and if anything went wrong, I can let go and the saw is thrown away from me... :)
@@TheRottenShed it’s the recommended way on a number of professional chainsaw operators. Husqvarna for one.
Probably had a sheared flywheel key before you broke that crappy casting .m
Nope, flywheel key was fine (I later took the thing entirely to bits!), it was a combination of stupidity on my part for breaking it, a clogged up carb full of sawdust and not turning the engine over fast enough to get it to generate a good enough spark...
@@TheRottenShed , They are very hit and miss build quality wise , kudos to you for sharing your bad experiences too , i think it helps us all to learn more when we see the mistakes as well as the successes .
@@simonbarnwell7787 The 2nd saw I got I managed to get working (which is where I found the carb being clogged and needing more speed to turn the engine over for a decent spark), but it's a bit of a PITA to use with that tool-less tension adjuster, as it loses tension very easily and has spat the chain off a few times, but they were cheap saws, both when new and 2nd hand...
I have one of these, it was my father-in-law's he bought many years ago for a small trailer they had at a campsite. When he died, again quite a few years ago now, it became mine. I keep it clean and maintained and have used it to power some lights and a radio for some of the infrequent power outages we have in Ontario, Canada. Bottom line, it's still going strong if I need it, and it now accompanies my new (2023) Honda EU2200i, so I have a total of 2850W of power which together will be adequate for my meager needs.
They're cool little generators, sadly being ousted by those battery bank power station things, but, I like my little Honda... :)
I have the aladdin and am not getting a blue flame any ideas
A few things to check; if the wick is worn and isn't rasing up high enough, that can prevent a blue flame; if it's missing the flame spreader in the middle (the cup thing with all the small holes in it) that will stop it as well, and lastly; an ill-fitting chimney (E.G. it or the burner being damaged from being dropped) would cause the same issue...
Looks delicious
At least you have Portmerion botanical range plates in an apocalypse lol btw biggest threat to Americans isnt zombies or Russians it’s themselves! Lol 😂
You are the only person to correctly identify the brand of plate, not that it was a question, though in the spirit of QI, Ten points!! 🤣
i used to install these, they were marketed as the BT moneybox and were very popular in their time
I still have this one stashed away, they're still a pretty cool little payphone... :)
@@TheRottenShed Yes they were cutting edge in their time. worked very well in pubs and clubs and even residential properties. customer could programme their own tariff per minute and make a profit out of them.
One thing I remember about mine is the coin slot could be removed and turned around to reveal a 20p slot, but that would need a different coin mechanism (I tried and it didn't work), and I don't think they ever did them in 20p form...
I wonder why the manufacturer of Aladdin oil lamps say not to use paraffin?
Misuse of the English language; in North America, 'Paraffin' is a different product, and what we Brits call Paraffin (C1) is what they call Kerosene (K1), and what we call Kerosene is Heating oil (C2 here, known as K2 across the pond), so, it all gets confusing, so it's all just down to local language differences...
@@TheRottenShed The difference between Brits as you call them and Americans is we haven't allowed government to disarm us. Our BB and pellet guns aren't even powered down. I feel soo sad for you guys not having rights.
Not entirely sure what armaments has to do with mantle lamps, but okay, just remember though, a sharpened pencil is just as deadly as a gun, can't ban them... ;)

Best video I need position gasoline lines please
I'd recommend downloading the owner's manual, in there it has a perfect depiction of the positions for the fuel lines under the transporting & storage heading, it's not easy for me to describe it here in words alone, it'd be much easier looking at the manual's picture... :)
Thanks good videos
We light the wick replace the mantle on the brass unit, replaced the glass chimney over the fragile, mantle, We. Place the mantle that’s attached to the metal that’s attached to the chimney over the lift wick. The lit wick will burn the mental without it, damaging the product.

I have one of these and a Valor - reconditioned both - and they work well. However, learnt of the 'space age' Inverter paraffin heaters. After much searching, finally found a supplier and bought one. They're Japanese made and although very sophisticated come with a 4 year guarantee. Essentially, you just press a button and out comes fan assisted hot air, up to 4kW on my model - you can get bigger ones. Still keeping my old ones; the Inverter does need a mains electric plug to work its CO sensor and ignition apparatus.

It's not glass, it's Mica, an oddly transparent mineral, you can get the stuff off ebay and it can be cut to fit with scissors, it's neat stuff really... :D

@@TheRottenShed Sure did seen you haven't been active for a while, but hope all is well 😜👍
Combination of burnout, depression and lack of incentive to continue (was starting to make a nice bit of pocket money out of the channel to use to buy things for project videos, then youtube moved the goalposts and that stopped, so no funds for projects, no videos to make!), doubt I'll revive the channel, at least not in its' current form anyway as said shed is falling apart now and too dangerous to work in any more...

Hello, I know it’s a Long time ago. But I just got a hts53 and i want to get it runing again. So i would like to order a Rebild kit or some sort. Do you know where you ordered yours from?
I bought the kit off ebay back then, easiest way to get them I've found, hope that helps... :)
@@TheRottenShed Alrighty, thanks a lot. The problem is all I can find is from USA, and that will be expensive to ship all the way to Denmark. I have found a bunch of kits on wish and AliExpress, I’m just not sure if they are the right ones. It needs to fit a “WT-206-01” carb correct?
I don't recall what the carb model is on mine, it's best to check the model stamped on the carb itself to be 100% sure, as for shipping, I think mine came from china too and it did the job... :)
@@TheRottenShed I Saw you wrote it in the video, But i Will for sure check mine to be sure! Thanks a lot, i really appreciate it. It’s my very first attempt on getting a motor working again:)
Ah, I did something useful in the video then, I didn't recall putting the model number in like that!!! Hope you get yours fixed, they're a decent little trimmer for dealing with small stuff... :)
Where did you get your metal wick trimmer? The modern plastic ones just don't cut it. Literally. My Aladdinette burns just like yours, uneven at the back, and the plastic wick trimmer can't fix it, even when I let the wick dry out first, as the experts recommend. Lovely heater otherwise.
It came with the heater, if you check ebay there's sometimes metal wick trimmers available cheaply, I found my 1 inch wick trimmer on there for my lamps for very little a couple years before I made this video, so they can be had. They are also not meant to 'cut' the wick, you need to char the wick properly before trimming (instructions are easy to find online), and the trim is basically just skimming off excess char to make for a nice, even burn... :)
@@TheRottenShed thanks for this answer. I thought I'd solved the uneven burning problem by installing a new wick. It burned blue for half a day, then burned yellow all round. When I tried to adjust it, it started burning red. Never seen anything like this. I'm at a loss! I will drain the tank and try to char the wick as you suggest, maybe that will fix it.
Usually when a yellow flame happens the wick is too low, or way too high, or there could be a blockage in the airways in the burner (these can be taken apart, though often with a bit of difficulty as the metal gets stuck over time), and as for red, I have never seen that myself, that would indicate that the flame actually went out and the wick was just smouldering, but hard to say without seeing it for myself! I would also make sure you have the right fuel (C1 Paraffin in the UK, or K1/1K Kerosene in north america), other fuels don't tend to work well and can contaminate wicks making them burn oddly even with the right fuels...
@@TheRottenShed nope, not smouldering. Actual red flame! Seriously, I grew up with Esso Blue, or Pink Paraffin in the 1960's. I'm currently using Bartoline and Barratine from Amazon Uk or B and Q. I've never before seen an actual red flame or even a yellow one that couldn't be fixed by turning the wick up or down, or trimming it. Colour me gobsmacked. I'll maybe dismantle the burner and wash it with ethanol, if you think there might be a blockage. Many thanks for the advice.
That certainly is very strange, I have no idea how a red flame could happen in these heaters!! Rather got me wondering about that now! As for the fuel, yeah, those are the usual brands, I was using Caldo stuff myself but sellers decided to up the price, so just bulk-bought 40L of the stuff from ebay, right before the fuel prices rose, only used when absolutely needed though!
Wow , that is cool
They're fun lamps, that's for sure... :D
@TheRottenShed can't believe it , did some hunting today, and found a complete model 23 less the wick and a model 13 burner head !!!! Im so 😊 🤗 🤪 excited
@@TheRottenShed thank you
Nice, just need to add a wick, fuel them up (maybe a new mantle too if they lack one) and you're set! :D
@@TheRottenShed looks like im missing the center flame spreader....
I've heard that these bulbs are often helium-filled for better cooling, so it might have a shorter lifespan now that you've opened it.
Wouldn't matter anyway, the lamp died a long time ago from failed bond wires in the filaments (common problem on cheaply made lamps)...
@@TheRottenShed Sure, I was just saying in case people think that they can repair these bulbs by soldering etc. I'm currently running a couple of these bulbs with the glass removed, as they were too big to go into a wall light fixture, so it will be interesting to see how long they last.
hello, please tell me why it can give out 300 volts, the engine speed is good
If the engine speed is correct, it could be a failed winding in either the rotor or the stator, the other thought is the switch used for 50/60Hz may be faulty and is stuck on 50Hz when set to 60Hz...
Hello can you use the larger one indoors, is there much heat from it. Thanks
You can indeed, they're intended for indoor use (indoors basically defined as anywhere that is four walls and a roof of somesort) and the heat they out out is pretty decent, can make a room quite toasty within an hour depending on the size... :)
Hi I need some scientific information about these things Any suggestions for me?
All depends on what information it is you're looking for, not much to them really that is easily researchable online... :)
Hi, I'm from the Netherlands, may I ask what you mean by 'too much toe-in!!' , you can read that at 30 sec. in the video. Thanks for your cooperation.👍
Just a bit of a play on words, my toes were visible in the window as a reflection as I didn't position my feet in a better spot and my toes were visible, so I'd got too much toe in the video, made to sound like bad wheel alignment on a car... :)
@@TheRottenShed 😉
Looking at the bar it has only been used once. Junk
Well it's a cheap saw that was sold in aldi, but the 2nd one I got has served its' purpose well enough, it's no commercial job, but, I'm no tree surgeon either, does what I need it to... :)
"Like a Weeble".
We have run these for many years and are our go to lighting when the grid goes down, we have two old vintage 23's and many spares/mantles for several years backup, the mantles can last many years if cared for properly, they also have a protective grid to stop moths from entering at the top of the glass funnel, a moth can destroy the delicate mantle is seconds if it gets into the lamp whilst it is off. They are brilliant and heat our ten by ten office to 70 degrees in winter and hold it there all night, well worth the 70 quid new today and all parts are still availble.
I have an aladdinette for my greenhouse. But after an alcohol washout, it's now my living room heater but with bioethanol in it. It's clean burning and can be used safely indoors. It works great and is miles cheaper than putting the gas heating on. No way I'm doing that this year.
Generally speaking, using an aromatic fuel (one which evaporates easily such as alcohols or petrols) in an Aladdin can pose an explosion risk, I really wouldn't recommend using it with bioethanol! That aside, bioethanol is rather expensive, I bought 40L of premium paraffin a year ago for £75 before fuel prices went nuts, but looking at bio bulk prices, that price wouldn't get me half that volume, eye-wateringly expensive stuff... :S
Hi, I’ve just purchased on of these but I’m struggling to change the wick. Do you have any tips please. Pip
They have to come out with the wick carrier, which if it's been sat a long time might be stuck, it needs to be wound all the way up and then lifts out, then unclips from the carrier, fitting is just the reverse, also helps to unscrew the burner assembly from the tank to aid in getting the new wick pulled through... :)
czcams.com/video/jpaPFHIOIRc/video.html
🙏 thank you all sorted now. It was a very old wick stuck in there
Thank you! My Expand-It stopped working and I could try the methods you’ve demonstrated. Hopefully it’ll work again, or I’ll just have to buy another !
Aladdin Lamps are (or were) wonderful BUT their new Mantles (The ones currently made in the Philippines) are short, extremely fragile, Far dimmer than the old ones made in Brazil with Thorium, are often hard to get for months at a time and Cost way too much ....I've always Loved these lanterns But with their crappy Mantles I would probably not recommend them to a friend anymore
Where do you get the chainsaws from.?🤔
They both came from ebay, customer returns that someone must have bought by the pallet load and sold cheap...
Hi there. Thanks for your upload. I have the same chainsaw which I repaired. I noticed that the chainsaw was covered in oil underneath. This was chain oil leaking. My question is, is this a fault? Or is it just part of the gravity fed lube system?. I was wondering if the oil should be emptied out of the chainsaw after use?. Thanks.
Aladdin lamps are worthless cant buy mantles for 2 to 3 years now
Hi, Do you know how to make the pulley easier to pull to start.?
Gardenline RIP.
Hi I have the same saw as yourself, it needed some attention, but my biggest problem is the pull cord, it is very hard to pull, with the plug out it’s ok, I have taken the muffler off and the piston from what I can see is very good, there is a rattle in the muffler but it seems enclosed so can’t see where it’s coming from without I think ruining the muffler by breaking in to, would you have any idea why the pull rope is so heavy to pull.🤔🤔.
Hi,Have you any idea why the pull cord I so difficult to pull. I have a saw the Same as that and it is so hard to pull comfortably.🤔😊
It's a tight engine to pull over, that's a given, as two-stroke engines are just compression on compression to make them work, but if it is excessively difficult to get it to turn over smoothly, it could be a sign that it has been under-oiled (if at all, my neighbour trashed a couple engines not realising they needed oil mixed in with the petrol!) resulting in the engine seizing up, which is basically the end of these cheap engines... :(
@@TheRottenShed Hi, Thank you for the reply, I do put oil in @ 40/1. I have also oiled through the spark plug, but no luck on either.I took the muffler out, and the piston part I saw saw was really good, but the muffler did have a rattle noise but couldn’t see anything inside but have the feeling the rattle, like a couple of small nuts have got in but can’t think from where.🤔😊
Nice video I have 1 of these and the voltage is reading far too high what do you think it could be
A couple of things come to mind, one being the governor has been fiddled with, so is running the engine too fast, the other thought is the switch that goes between 50hz and 60hz may be faulty or loose, leaving it on 50hz mode when running at 60hz which would push the voltage up too high...
@@TheRottenShed thanks so much for the fast replie I took the side casings off today and noticed 1 of the cables looks disconnected looks to me like it’s the throttle which would cause this issue I just bought a pair of them for 100 euro 1 has low compression the other to many volts hoping now this fixes it
such a generator produces more than 300V, tell me what could be the reason, the engine speed is good
I also have too high voltage (210 VAC on 120 VAC model), and frequency is ~80Hz. Has anyone solved this issue?
Can you cook on the M#37 ???
Yep, I did another video doing just that (mostly a bit of a silly video, but it worked perfectly fine), probably better for slower cooking things like stews and soups as well as for boiling water, very handy tool for such things... :)
