    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před dnem

      You're welcome man! If the EQ is good and the sound engineer sets the correct parameters, you're able to get a decent sound our of the Kick drum mic up to certain tempos ( 150-160 and maybe 170 tops) However, the down side is that it if the venue / stage is big with a huge crowd it wouldn't work as much or when playing faster tempos. If you have the option to throw a trigger this will amplify the sound to play double bass patterns (from 180 to 200 BPM and above) louder and will cut through much more in a live setting.

    Thanks for the video. The only problem is, there's no way I can do that exercise at the end yet. Can you recommend any exercises for someone just starting out learning ankle technique? (I've been playing for 3 years and until now just played rock/heavy metal with a heel-up technique, until I hurt my knees from stomping too hard, separating my foot from the pedal and not using my calves and ankles enough).

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před 8 dny

      You're welcome! Sorry to hear about you getting hurt. If you are feeling better, I'd recommend the following. - Play slowly at a comfortable speed for 1 or 2 bars and increase 5 BPM after every run until you reach the speed you struggle with (do not push hard to get thought to avoid more injuries). - In the video you can see some warmup exercises before you attempt the ankle technique. Try to isolate your hip flexors or any big muscle and focus on using your calves and ankles. Try to mimic bouncing a basketball with your ankles. - Attempt to swing the beater (even if you're not touching the bass drum head) to get the motion flowing until you feel relaxed hitting the notes and control the rebound. Let me know if this works out to see where you struggle the most after applying these principals.

      @prod_adrian I can understand putting rigorous daily practice with A LOT of discipline can bring you closer to learn this "faster" but, honestly. You need to dream and breath Double Bass to make it happen haha. I personally use Heel up Double Strokes (a variation of Heel Toe) every now and then for the crazy fast stuff. However, I've been a single stroke player for most of my years playing drums. So, I use it sometimes as a second option 😆

It seems like some people never learn it to be honest, even after years of following for example Marthyns tips etc. Do not worry about HeelToe, if I could play like that with ankles I would just stick to that and perfect it. I think single strokes are way way cooler, but its just incredibly frustrating and daunting to learn, soulcrushing without the progress! You're not able to get a loud definition acoustically nor on a mesh head due to the dynamics and dead sound coming from the kick drum. However, the Heel Toe technique is a bit more audible but the technique changes to get louder strokes without triggers.

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před měsícem

      You encounter this because you're striking a surface when playing a drum / kick pad instead of swinging the beaters freely without any impact. Normally, your hip flexor muscles are also activated and this is where you have to release any tension from them or your hamstrings and only focus on using your calves to control the ankle fatigue (due to your ankles continuously moving). Relaxing is key when playing this technique.

      @@GiancarloRaveloGarcia I see. Even then your performance is great, I'm currently at 160 but finally got a hang of the ankle motion in one of these kd9s, so your technique completely blew me out of the water lol

      @metalliclark86 Haha. Thank you for the words man! I appreciate it. Glad that you got the hang of the ankle technique. Wishing progress and evolution to your playing. Keep pushing!

    Demon vs Axis? Who wins?

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před měsícem

      Each one has some features. Axis is easier to play, lighter, faster. The DD's are more adjustable and hit harder. It all comes down to personal preference.

    Nice! What are your trigger settings like threshold, retrig cancel and mask time? I have a hard time dialing in my ontriggers

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před měsícem

      Thanks man!! Right now I'm using a TD6v to trigger with a Roland KD-30k and the settings are different than the one I use for On Triggers. I suggest you work with a medium / low Threshold 5-8 Retrig Cancel around 2-5 Mask Time at 2.0 it will depend on how tight the tension on your pedal's springs are as well if you're playing on a rubber / mesh pad or an acoustic kick drum. Experiment and see which one fits your playing. Cheers 🤘🏻

    Is it just heel down?

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před 2 měsíci

      My shins would give up on me if it was heel down haha. It's basically heel up lowering your heels as much as possible. Its more like the "flat foot" technique.

    Hi man! Can you please share your pedal settings?

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před 5 měsíci

      Hey man. Sure! I mostly use max spring tension or 85% when playing other things. Beater distance is around 40/45 degrees, footboard height is relatively low and that's about it! Cheers.

    how do you approach patterns? 4,5,7,9,11 stroke rolls etc

    Would you say you need direct drive for this technique?

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia Před 5 měsíci

      You do not. Using a tight spring tension and relatively medium tight drum head would help with the rebound.

    • @ahmedakifrahman
      @ahmedakifrahman Před měsícem

      Or you can also loosen your spring tension on the pedals with tightening the bass drum heads . Either way works fine , it depends on which settings you’re comfortable with .
