Why cant you do interview questions for therapeutic jobs

I am not in this field myself but as a patient who used to go to therapy, i honestly dont understand why you or anyone would want to do this miserable job? If people cared truly about helping others, then the financial rewards shouldnt matter, but on the other side of the coin, it must be a horrible job having to listen to miserable people and their issues which are mostly down to their own failures in life. Still as a patient,, i dont believe in it any more because as smart and intelligent and deserving of good pay as you should have, i also dont believe any of you care one fig about the patients as all i ever had were sanctimonious platitudes, and being belittled, i even overheard my therapist laughing at one of my issues behind my back. I wish those who are doing this good luck.

I am loving your videos! The insight you provide behind the "rich and savior" topic is heavy. In some view points and life situations it may contradict itself. But... that leads us back to reflect on the concept that the "black and white lense" doesn't tend to serve well in the field. Greatful for what you are doing with your platform and talents!

What university did you go to?

My advice is to build relationships with your clients…remember your clients….have your clients follow your social media for business…get business cards pass them out CONGRATULATIONS you are now a business man/ women Walk like it, talk like it, act like it….this is your practice..make boss moves…get an substantial amount of cliental before you open up your own firm….make business partners that will go with you….always work at a group firm for connections…..remember clients should go with you when you leave a firm….i once met a counselor that left me cold turkey and I would relocate to receive her practice because she was good at what she do. Try to land clients that loves counseling sessions and goes regularly! You can also go for high profile people that can afford your services…..and don’t forget to bless your clients too with discounts do whatever you can to land clients. My philosophy everybody can benefit counseling whether they realize it or not. Greet yourself as a counseling to people and offer your services give discounts or even free sessions and see if they will promise to spread the word! Be open to lunches and meetups Your a counselor your part of the business field People should highly respect you And remember Anyone can benefit from counseling whether they realize it or not But who does not want to connect with a business man It does not have to be just about counseling NETWORK Network=opportunites Remember you cannot give discounts without your own firm You cannot practice your craft with 0 clients What are you going to do? Build a foundation and when you make it to the top Don’t forget the people who is still down there you didn’t hear this from me….

I appreciate all of your videos, but this one is exactly what I've been needing! I'm still exploring if this field is right for me, and one of my biggest concerns is handling certain graphic topics. I have a vomit phobia and am super sensitive to detailed descriptions of bodily functions/anatomy/injuries, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Point being, it sounds like it'd be helpful for me to address these sensitives even before I apply to grad school, if I ever do. I really do wish there were more ways to explore whether or not I can handle this field before I spend money on grad school 🥲 That being said, I do want to reiterate that your videos have been some of the best resources in my journey. Greatly appreciate this video! Im a current grad student in OH nearing internship. I am looking into the possibility of a doctoral program in counselor ed. and sup. (post M.A. graduation and internships). I am starting to realize that my interests for research and practice may involve working with families as well as individuals which makes the licensure track (rather MFT or LPC) difficult to choose and navigate at this point in my journey. Especially since counselor ed. and sup. programs generally require an independent and sup. endorsements at some point along the way... Can LPC(C)s legally provide services to a family in session? Super excited to now have a counselor/content creator from OH to follow and share with others! :)

I'm a fresh high school graduate, and I want to go into therapy. Thankfully, I'm only starting my bachelor's, so I have time to decide what to specialize in! But it's difficult to figure out. If I got my bachelor's in behavioral science, do you think I'd be able to branch into either LPC or LCSW?

Story 3: Reminds me of when I studied couples therapy. My professor pointed out that couples therapy is really hard because you have 3+ clients: The Relationship, Partner 1, Partner 2, +...

I am currently a teacher (going into year 7) but since I was 13 I knew I wanted to be a therapist. I fell into teaching for, ironically, financial reasons. I work with at-risk youth, so it is a rewarding job. But I am looking for something more flexible, possibly remote, and that pays better. These videos are helping me a ton and I just found you. I loved this movie so much! I wanted to sob so much when Joy realized how Anxiety was just trying by to help Riley. The end when Anxiety is spinning is reallllll-it feels like one is going , even though I want to stop like my mind and body don’t connect. It made me emphasize with my anxiety when it shed a tear. I try to suppress it instead of noticing it and being curious about it. To acknowledge all of my emotions feels so freeing. To even indulge that feeling and letting it pass, like waves is next level💗 15:48 I think I’ll explore my values too.

I love these videos. I'm currently working on my MSW at The University of Toledo, so it's nice to hear someone in Ohio talking about these things.

Re: experience, here's some ideas for anyone looking- I volunteered for a crisis hotline 3 hours a week for over a year (if you have the time to do it, this is very humbling work and good experience for risk assessment/management). I also got my certification in adult mental health first aid, for free through my undergrad university. I signed up for the bandana project, a peer support training for my campus. I also got a WGST cert in undergrad and talked about the intersectionality of those topics. I overall talked about my professional experience in a way that aligns with the values of mental health. And of course, signed up for professional associations student membership!

I have been researching all of the fields of therapy and counseling. Everything you mentioned here I absolutely agree with. I live in California and I want to pursue a career in counseling/therapy. I honestly can say that MFTs are more in demand here just by looking into job applications and such. When I wanted to go into counseling/therapy I had a VERY DIFFICULT time with the acronyms and what was in demand in my state. Then seeing the difference across the nation for demand and pricing. All of it plays a factor LOL. I didn't know for certain what field I wanted to pursue but I feel like now it's more MFT and not so much on LPC because LPC is broader than MFT. As you said MFT is just for families and couples and relationships. SO FOR SURE I WANT TO STAY WITHIN THAT VICINITY. Because I see that I like helping families so much and I help couples A LOT surprisingly. So yeah I can agree that it's straining/stressful but even at that I wanna help with couples LOL. SO for real thank you for this video because it confirmed everything I have been researching for like....a few months now. So truly thank you!

Great video! I'm obsessed with both movies and still can't decide which I like more. I really really love Internal Family Systems so I loved the whole part about the Self and no bad parts also. I'm also a huge ACT fan. When my husband asked our 9 year old what he thought the movie meant, my son responded "that emotions don't define who we are," Like, what?!?! It was so great. I'm so in love with the film and would/will totally pay to see it again in theatres!

Do you have any knowledge of whether MPCAC accreditation is equivalent to CACREP accredited programs? Whilst doing research I’ve found that a lot of schools, particularly on the east coast, are MPCAC accredited. And I’m having a hard time figuring out what exactly that means, and whether those programs should be avoided or not. Thank you so much again for making yet another informative and much-needed video! Also, I couldn’t agree with you more about the needing experience to apply to CMHC programs! Since I didn’t get accepted into any programs this year, I’m trying to do everything I can to make the most of my time and improve my resume, essays, etc. in order to hopefully increase my chances of getting in next time. But, being blind has made it extremely challenging to find jobs. It sucks, and I know I’m not the only one struggling with this.

when your priorities change from helping people to cash flow, your skills now start suffering because your focus is now on bills that need to be paid and what vacations you can go on. THINK ABOUT IT.

PA, rural: only non-profits to choose from until you get independent licensure. 2021: $41k non-profit. 2023: $48k, job hop, still non-profit. 2024, finally licensed, private practice, just starting... We'll see!
