Building a Modular factory in Satisfactory (Part 3) #21
My favorite starting location is somewhat of the underdog location in the northwestern desert just because it has so many resources in copper, iron, and limestone all in relatively high purity, there is a decent amount of foliage to carry you until coal power if you just cross a river, it's got plenty of caterium, coal is everywhere in fairly high purity, there is a large oil deposit to the south and a quartz deposit not that far into the titan forest, sulphur to the north, nitrogen for later on north past the sulphur, and there is a fairly large waterfall which provides plenty of water for any early coal plants and then if you climb the cliffside there is even more water for pretty much everything. The dunes can be an issue for a couple things with how they go up and down a lot but usually you can still build fairly easily. Overall it's a fairly underrated spawn in my opinion.
Looks awesome bro 👌 ❤
Great video, keep it up ❤😊 love your builds too 😍 wish i could build with you one day
How do you only have 1100 subs??
🤷♂️ Started in December. Hoping to increase quality over time!
I'll probably always start at Grass Fields. Only because it's the most visually appealing area. I'll be spending most of my time there so why not? Its also a good open flat area for a central hub on a modular build.
Looks- Yet another reason for us to make our return to the place where it all started!
Grassy fields is also nice because it gives an excuse to use trucks to transport stuff. Not because it's efficient, but because trucks.
HaHa, I did this on the creative save. Tucks everywhere for everything for no reason other than trucks...
Honestly would enjoy playing in the grassy fields again, I played it for my first playthrough but since finding out how garbage it actually was I never play there anymore. I think after the changes for sure I'm going to play there for my first 1.0 playthrough!
Even if it turns out to be the 2nd best or something, I still want to start there for the *Nostalgia*
Not sure missing higher quality nodes is quite a downside of the grass fields, since brand spanking new players may not be quite ready for the heavy math needed for other spawn points with lots of pure nodes
That’s not the point this is for experienced players that are looking for a good start.
on every update i have start new in grasland ;). is a good place, for quarz i build a bridge to the 2 spots (for trucks or in my last run for trains, a 2nd bridge over the crater for Bauxid ans produce with 2 raffeneries enouth scrap for 6 smelters. is easy to make ;)
I think considering the Blue Crater close to spawn as a stretch. But I think the new sulfur/quartz nodes go a long way to making the grassy fields viable for a starting base. It lets you get your feet wet with a couple of the other trees more easily now, even if it might not support more serious production. So it still pushes you to explore and expand, which is good The quartz is probably more important to me, just to be able to start doing some slightly more decorative/windows on builds, when you're still working at small scale projects. As other comments have said, water access is still a bit weak in that area, especially close to the added coal nodes. I think I would have preferred fewer new coal nodes, but easily water access near that south/center collection to be a slightly better, if further coal outpost compared to the common coal lake.
The way I see things: the starting location is that, a starting location. A place to get your footing, get the more urgent/important stuff, and stock up in order to expand after. Many games are similar, and there's no point in starting in an area where it's the best to build the most advanced stuff, when you don't even have the means to build these things yet. Plus if I build my starter plants where I'll be building my late game stuff, a lot of destruction will need to happen. I'm bad at architecture in this game, but I'll show FICSIT that I can be a great pioneer, I'll CONSTRUCT, EXPLORE, EXPLOIT, and AUTOMATE every ressources in all the biomes.
I was always under the impression that grasslands was getting shit for it being a shitty place for mid to late game while actually being a decent starting point for the early game... and since about every youtuber who i have been watching play this game has for some reason always started on the desert... my plan already before the node changes were announced was to re-start playing this game when 1.0 comes in the northern forest.... ill just stick to that choice even if its less than optimal now since i have done really little exploration on that area when i have played the game....
The grass fields has always been one of the more OP starting locations. Not sure what you mean by 'issues been solved'. The quick access to nodes you speak of has already been a thing? The west side of it by paradise island you have that little oasis with the 4 coal nodes, you have two more south along the worlds edge, soooo many pure concrete, iron and copper nodes. Two pure quartz just a small run up a hill and caterium for days... yes in 1.0 one is being yeeted and moving closer with yet another new one being added. Sulfer is also going to be close by and boxite is just up on a cliff plus just water everywhere. That isn't counting the gas nodes and such also found and the 4 oil nodes along the west cost. Really it has everything you need to start out even before 1.0. Plus some of the late game stuff by the time you need it you're already expanding across the map. Most people I've asked about what they view as the best starting location they all say around the same area. Heck do a search on here for best starting zone and grass fields is the most common answer. Plus it's mostly flat open land. I think I only seen one video say the northern forest is bets and that was due to just a few nodes, but do the math and look at the calc site it's not even near the amount offered in the grass fields. The ore changes isn't going to really change that outside giving us more easy access to stuff.
In my opinion the biggest problem with the grassy fields is the relative lack of water.
I had considered starting in grasslands... but the changes in the rocky desert made that more interesting... I don't need "pure" when I start the game since I don't have belts for that anyways, so I would rather have more nodes of lesser quality... plenty slugs around to boost a 30/60 node to 60/120...(can boost to 250% but just 200% is fine for now) and 120 is the max on mk.2 belts anyways which is all you got until you start steel up. many also start in the "middle" of grass fields where there are 3 iron nodes, 2 limestone and 1 copper... but if you go south there is like 6 iron nodes, 2 copper nodes and a bunch of limestone...
Yea rocky seems to be a popular choice, and it was where I started in update 8. It has a lot going for it, the grasslands just get ignored a lot. Maybe now people will try it out!
I think the new spot is Rocky Desert. There's like 3 viable clusters to start on, the Crater area for Coal, pretty close to the Black Gold Coast, and near to Nuclear and Bauxite later in game.
As a dunes start player I just restarted in grass fields. I didn't know it has caves, and spiders in them 😱I think it's half a dozen flat areas is perfect for starting factories.
there are a BUNCH of SAM ore there too
I will always start my saves in the Grassy Fields xD
😂😂
The big thing is that there are new nodes everywhere. so i hope i can build my bus base where i want :D
Hopefully we get a full map update just before 1.0 so we can plan!
I've restarted a bunch of times. I always have preferred the Dune Desert. I don't see anything that's going to change that. It's got plenty of biomass in the oases and coast. It's got tons of flat space to build, tons of early game resources. By far the easiest to traverse and to find the resources you're looking for. It's been the best in every category for tiers 1-4 for me.
Currently im playing a rocky desert start and i honestly love it, only downside is the coal, you have to go all the way up the big hill east of the desert, but i just built a foundation ramp up there. There is a huge leak right nearby the coal nodes, so coal power is pretty simple
Yea I think a lot of people will like the rocky start. I just value the power ramp you have with all the coal and sulfur. And it’s not much elevation change.
Looking at the Node Changes, I'd argue the the Rocky Desert is probably going to be the best. One other major thing the Grass Fields is lacking is Water, except to the West and Northwest (at Coal Lake). All those new Coal and Sulfur nodes are being added to the far Eastern side by the Blue Crater. This puts an extreme limit on your starting power source, and writes off the Compacted Coal/Turbofuel idea until you have Trains or are VERY dedicated towards belting them across the map. By comparison, the Rocky Desert is getting 4 new coal nodes to the NW, right by the water, along with a new sulfur node nearby. With that new sulfur, you can open an entrance to the tunnels filled with Quartz, as long as you're willing to deal with the spiders (or just turn AI aggression off). Not only that, but with Oil to the south, along with Bauxite (although REALLY high up), and a pure Caterium to the East, you won't have want for much. I was fine with the room the Northern Forest gave, but the Rocky Desert is almost as flat as the Grass Plains. To top it all off, most of those nodes ARE pure. Even very late game, there's an impure Uranium and SAM ore (assuming it isn't moved) nearby.
There is enough water at the crater for a comp coal plant early game, I think its close between rocky and the grass fields. We also don't know where the "sprinkle" treatment has affected either. But i think with what we know, the south, and rocky spawns are the best.
yeah I find Rocky Desert better too but the small ponds? they deliver PLENTY wanter no problem at all... there is a few of em in grass fields without even going to the lakes.
Well it seems that all start point is good now.
Its not only that, but arguably, the northern forest has sunk below the dune desert even. It lost the easy to access quartz completely, had a lot of sulfur and coal removed as well. It still maintains the terrible building terrain. ( I did manage to use the terraces to my advantage for a very good terraced base). You technically have access to sulfur and caterium, but its very little. I do agree the northern forest should have been nerfed but I think it was too much so, they should have kept one close quartz node. The nearest quartz node is in the TITAN FOREST??? Over a kilometer away. I think they were trying to make the grass fields actually "ideal for starting pioneers" and make the northern forest "better for more experienced pioneers". Still, I think it was too nerfed
I think the quartz has been changed to 2 impure nodes and moved to the far east side of the northern forest. Its still there just farther and low quality. Even with that, i still think the grasslands might be better!
I don't think the northern forest have that bad terrain you just have to make giant flying factory over the cliff where the quartz is but that don't correspond to everyone gameplay, so for me it's great but idk for other player.
nah quartz is like 5 steps down the canyon... not hard to get to lol...
With the changes to coal location I think rocky desert is the new winner spawn, it has plenty of pure and normal nodes, three great nearby locations for steel production, very good quartz as soon as you can clear the stingers in the big cave, and a pure caterium node right in the middle. With its flat terrain I think grassy fields may be better suited to a large late game factory where you mass produce iron-based components to mix with later game stuff.
Rocky has a great case for best starting zone. Maybe for more advanced players who know how to deal with caves as the game doesn't tell you anything currently. It still lacks sulfur, which is a big draw early game for massive power gains. But I honestly can see people putting Rocky as #1 as well!
Wasn't the pure caterium ore in the middle nerfed? Or maybe it was a different node...
@@Xayler I think they lowered the sulfur node in the south by itself. But after all the changes we know of there should be 2 or 3 pure caterium nodes really close.
@@KyloBuilds Yeap, I just went through the google drive files again and saw a new caterium node close to the uranium hill, so it actually got more caterium instead close by.
Great Video! I was favoring the norther forest, right where you spawn in because they added caterium there, and sulfur, coal, oil and even bauxite isn't too far away. I am only missing another Copper node, but they added one on the other side of the dessert canyon. Plus this location is somewhat central to the map so with some (I mean a f*ing lot of) planning, I might be able to keep my starter base as my main central storage system. The Other spawning point I was laying my eyes on is the left side of the rocky desert as they added a bunch of coal there and oil isn't too far away either. Anyways, now I will have to look at grassy fields too, since you made some valid points to consider this as your starting location. Thank you :-D
ok, before these 1.0 changes, I frequently defended the grassy fields as a starting zone. I personally dont like the northern forest, its way too cramped. I totally agree that the grass fields looks like a good place to start in 1.0. I decided long before the node changes that I would start there, just for nostalgia reasons lol.
Honestly same, I miss being in the south. the changes are just a massive bonus, makes me very hyped for 1.0!
@@KyloBuilds same! I think my favorite starting spot will still be the dune desert, but I think the grassy fields will be a close second.
great video, but the outro music is cringe .. i like grassy fields, it is great for making a solid base of operations and starter factories *ahem*screws*ahem*
Great video! Most CZcamsrs trash grass fields due to node purity but I always thought it was a great location and I never really had any issues with the node purity as your belts can't handle pure nodes early game anyway... normal works fine and there are enough of those. By the time you need more raw resources you are ready to expand out to other locations with better node purity, and you have that not too far away like in the northwestern side of grass fields. With the coming quartz, sulfur, and caterium changes, it makes it even better. Another thing they mentioned that isn't on the node map is that they gave the sprinkle treatment to iron, copper, and limestone to the entire map so who knows what will change with that in grass fields.
That's exactly the criticism of the grassy fields. In any other location, you branch out for specific resources, e.g. caterium or quartz, but in the grassy fields, you branch out for "the rest of the game."
Все рецепты в 1.0 могут быть изменены. Поэтому все эти советы отчасти бесполезны
Of course, but they will largely stay the same... especially early game stuff. I doubt that we will start burning quartz or caterium in a coal generator.
@@merlinyoder8262 who know?), как говорил Snut на трансляциях
hopping the optimization changes in 1.0 will help with lag
Seems like it will with all the changes to how the game will calculate multiple things as one! fingers crossed!
how do you plan this??
Most of these were just "freestyle" on stream, just build and take down until i landed on something i liked enough. But most other builds i do have a lot of planning before building starts. Working on a 4 part build series right now that will walk through my process including planning!
very good and nice buildings, the blue one.. wow, ♥
Hey thanks!
Last time i played satisfactory was like 2 years ago and i got the trailer in my recommended. I was so confused because i thought the entire update was about flushing a toilet because i didnt see the ending note on the trailer😭
😂😂
Can't wait to see more!
Totally clickbait thumbnail.
Hey, i'm on the same stage as you in the game at the moment in my own singleplayer playthrough, heres just a tip, craft a spear, it will be useful in the black forest, but keep your club too, and if you see any "giants" in the distance keep your distance and try be a bit quiet.
So cool, cannot wait to play 1.0.
Just about 2 months out!
where do you see a new support? I have seen people calling the new fences for belt supports but that's just fences... care to point to what you think is new support?
There are a couple spots where it looks like it could be different, can’t say with any certainty.
I thought this video would have more views, great analysis
I think that the item that's been used in the new machine is the Quantum Computers and some new part
Awesome design. Where can I get these BPs?
If you join the discord, link in the description. There is a text channel that will have all blueprints from videos like these!
Nice man I totally missed that new barrier/beam. Very cool that there looks like there are some new cosmetic options coming.
I will die if there are no new cosmetic options lol. 100% seems like a good bunch are coming!
@@KyloBuilds yeah me too but figured maybe they would leave new cosmetic stuff it for a post release update. But I've very glad they aren't
good video Kylo, but what i noticed is not what is new, but what we do not see. like: manufacturer, mk-2 and mk-3 belts. mk-3 miner. maybe in the next video.
There is still so much unknown, cant wait for some more information before 1.0 (I hope)
What is the map seed? Watching a new player makes me want to play along haha. Glad you are enjoying the game
I am enjoying it for sure! Ill have to check in on that seed thing
I'll keep an eye on this one, watching someone play blind makes me jealous, subbed, great video
Thanks, I plan to get into the building side a ton, seems like you can build some insane things in this game!
Haven't watch the video, but "yes", it's VERY good. As a longtime older gamer it gave me a sense of excitement I hadn't felt in years. It's a game that I wish I could wipe my memory of it so I could get the fresh new feeling again.
Great game. I also just picked it up and I'm loving it.
Yes! I am also loving it!

Im just a bit late 😂 oops
He isn’t gonna enjoy the swamp though. I just started a week ago and the swamp is ass

Can't wait to see the next episode, and future builds!
I am super pumped to make some dope builds *I hope*
Not gonna get spoilery or anything, but most times when you're stuck in Valheim it's because you haven't built everything in your menu that there is to build, or there are new materials/ingredients out in the world that you haven't discovered yet.
Yes, I am learning that I have to find new materials, like flint to craft new stuff
