We both train in Bajiquan, which would be hakkyokuken in Japanese. When sparring and doing applications, the stances used won't always look like what we do in forms. In general, we would still like to use stances that help to protect vulnerable areas like our chins.

I think I was attempting to push back at him as he was advancing, but he neutralized it by pulling me in. It also looked like my footing wasn't good when I tried to push forward too.

Most of the authentic stuff was expunged by Mao the good stuff left and now has to be re imported by foreigners .All China was left with were dancers and circus acts .

@GameleiraNoChao after the mantis hook and chop in bow stance we immediately centre punch x3 while in the same stance, then step through to horse stance side punch (vertical fist / sun punch). I forget the name of this, something like stealing heart punch or similar.. the other hand is in a defensive palm position near the shoulder Anyway, after that then it just starts the other side of the form

Thank you for the kind words! We rent the dance studio that we currently use and currently don't have a mat, but it's something I would like to explore more. On the side I have been doing some cross-training in standup grappling, which I feel has helped me.

this is a lineage with a proud history of extremely scary short people.

Not sure which form is the "combat form" but I have been regularly sparring with people form other styles to validate my Baji. And I think Baji should blend well with choy li fut and hung ga. Others students within my school have come from hung gar and wing chun back grounds and were able to incorporate baji with that they've learned.

@@wutan_nj would love too, my teacher came from Hebei province, has been training for 80+ years before he died a few years ago. Real baji does not let the toes slide from the ground to stay connected, this is something which the ridiculous wutan version keeps doing, the jumping is ridiculous But you already know that. There is 0 neigong due to the fact that the god of spear never learned the internal part before he went to Taiwan but you already know that. Wutan pigua does not open the shoulders enough but you already know that. Don’t let me start on the ridiculous xingyi version because well you already know that. I can go on for ever, but you already know that because I am pretty sure you have been following the discussions I had with your “student”.
