The Martha Washington Star block is made with a pinwheel unit inside a square-in-a-square unit and surrounded by star points made from flying geese units. This block was designed to use up some of the scraps left over from the layer cake I was using to make a quilt. This is the Nutmeg line from Basic Grey for Moda Fabrics. I cut the sizes according to the fabric left over and played around with them on my design software until I got a design I liked. The Eddystone Light block is made with flying geese units and squares in two sizes. There are points to watch for as you are sewing the block together. To put this block together, you sew the center section together as a 9-patch block, then add the outer units in rows. Quilting on My Domestic Sewing Machine
👏👏🙏
Susan I finished this Amish Star love the easier piecing and love the Star block. I did the reverse, I did a dark star with a light background turned out beautiful. thanks for sharing with me. 👍❤️🙂
Oh wow, you have blown my mind. I am sewing on a 1946 Singer 20 that I love, and I am getting ready to quilt my second quilt but I think I might just order a darning foot for my Singer,. Get some practice under my belt with free motion (I have always wanted to do it) and give it a whirl. Thanks so much! I just googled "darning foot" for my Singer and what showed up were the Circle was parallel to the bed, not perpendicular like yours. Hmmmmmm.
Thank you for another pretty block
The Block Looks Easy to make and its Very Pretty! Thank You for the Tutorial!
Great block. And I love the sound of that machine! 🥰
Your channel is so lovely and I love your choice of blocks! Your generous to share the sizes too. I don’t buy patterns and choose blocks to make my quilts. Times are tough!!
I love this classic block!
This is a very nice block to put together. It would make a nice baby quilt or even a veterans quilt with red, white, and blue theme. And as always, Susan, you explained the construction of the block very well. I'm looking forward to your next video!
Thank you! Love your channel!
I just purchased this machine and am having trouble trying to instal the free motion foot. There was no instruction book with my machine. Can you walk us through this. Thanks!
You inspire me to use my singer 201.
Thank you so much for providing free patterns we can download. You make such beautiful blocks
Would like to make a quilt with this beautiful block.
So cute and you said simple, so maybe this should be my next block. I just finished sewing your Salem block and I had more issues than I care to admit. The points need to be reworked a bit. Anyway your fabric choices are always so nice. Thanks Susan for sharing.👍❤️🙂
This was an easy pattern to draw into my pattern memo notes. The fabric used can jazz up the look with bright colors (or keep it cool and calm as you have done here). This pattern would be fun made out of all scraps. Thank you for another beautiful pattern to add to my choices for future work.
Lovely. I’ll give it a try😀
Love this one
Wow, that’s quite the collection. They are all so beautiful and the fabric are amazing. I’ve never ventured into appliqué maybe down the road, right now I have a quilts that on a list. I can’t imagine the stress of having a house build. I’m going to check out the patterns for Prairie Meadows, I love Lori Holt fabrics designs. Thanks for sharing. 👍❤️🙂
Directional fabric can cause some challenges. However, all of yours are oriented correctly. I really don't care for square in square or flying geese/hst blocks that are not oriented correctly. (and I see many experienced quilters demonstrate blocks with this helter skelter positioning). They jar my eye so badly. It does take a little more planning. It's one of those quilty skill things that bears learning to develop both skill and confidence. You have lots of good block making resources here for beginner and experienced alike!
This is the solution I've been looking for to finish an antique quilt top with tons of large triangles! Thank you!
A precious quilt beautifully quilted.
Thank you sew much for suggesting the needle size! That really helped with my project.
If it’s not a drop in system I find it very hard to get the casing in, it’s in two parts and trying to align them is very difficult.
Beautiful, seems like an heirloom quilt to me. The mix of colors are wonderful!
Beautiful block!
I love hand appliqué. Those blocks are gorgeous!
Iti s apleasure to watch how you handle the project, with precision. Your fabric looks as if it has been starched, which helps with precision piecing, I think. Your thoughts on how thee project develops are also reassuring..not tied up with too much technicality but more linked to what you think looks good. It then feels a more organic project . " I'll see what it looks like when... " is the way many creative people work. I enjoy your quiet, unrushed, no nonsense approach. Very reassuring. Thank you.
Those are beautiful!
Are the feed dogs down ? Is there a screw under the machine for the feed dogs ?
Yes, there is a screw to loosen to lower the feed dogs on this machine.
All blocks are beautiful .
I looked up the pattern because I was interested in it also. It’s a block Lori Holt did a year ago and she mentions that. The blocks are beautiful. I find hand sewing relaxing and great when I just want to do something and slow down also. Thanks for sharing
Thanks
Is this pattern sells on it own or in one of her books? Love to make one myself.
@@isabelcharles4906 It is on her blog. You have to buy the templates for the shapes. Some quilt shops carry them. I bought mine at Fatquartershop.com
Where can I find this pattern? It's beautiful
@@bethwillis3690 it's Lori Holts Prairie Meadow quilt pattern. You can find it on her blog beeinmybonnetco.com Type Prairie Meadow in the search box to find it.
It so beautiful, I want to make one.
Its a good practice to close the blade down after each cut. Pretty pattern through
Thank you and it’s beautiful! To help with your blocking get the blocking boards that you use for knitting and/or crochet.
Love this block. I made it in civil war reproduction fabric. Thanks for the tutorial
Susan, I love the red, white, and blue theme of the star block. As always you are precise in your instructions. Thank you!
Susan this makes up to a very neat and beautiful block. Very appropriate block for your July 4th celebrations. Thanks for sharing another gorgeous block.👍❤️🙂
You made this block the same way I would have made it. It's a pretty block. Thank you. I love that old Singer sewing machine. It sews beautifully.
Wow I on first. Knoxville TN here. The very 1st thing I like about your site is at the beginning you give the size and colors of what you need to make the block so if we want to see with you. Second I really love the instructions and I can see you seeing it. I just like everything about your site. Thank you so much.
I just bought one and i think it needs a new bobbin shuttle, where can i find one?
You can try sewingpartsonline.com or google singer sewing machine parts. It will bring up a long list of options.
Thank you!!! The owner’s manual wasn’t clear. It said to hold the button 2 seconds until 2 beeps. Not just touch it each time.
Thank you so much for posting this block. I absolutely love it.
Those grandmother's flower garden blocks are just like i received from my aunt, that my late grandmother made over several decades. She passed away about 25 years ago. I actually just put them together recently. I raw edge appliqued them each to a coordinating modern fabric and bordered each block with another print. Have to quilt it yet, but it was neat working on the project.
I bet it is lovely!
Loved seeing those old blocks and pretty fabrics. So great of you to complete what someone decades ago didn't get to. Im sure they would be pleased.
Great tips, clearly presented. I am a beginning quilter and precision piecing is my biggest challenge.
Is this block finished A 12” block ? It is beautiful block. Thank you for sharing
Yes, it is a 12" block.
