Neil Koch: Dig-Drive-DIY
United States
Registrace 22. 01. 2008
I'm a weekend warrior, jack-of-all-trades, DIY type of guy that has lots of different interests, most of which involve trucks, tractors and heavy equipment. I cut a lot of firewood, move a lot of dirt and tinker on all types of projects in my shop when I have spare time outside my day job. My goal for this channel is to document and share what an average guy could do with equipment that is typically at any local rental place. I want to be able to share my weekend projects with others and for those that share the same passions as me I hope you'll tag along.

Hopefully This Will Do The Trick!
4 steps to making a cleaner and safer pond for swimming. In this video we install an aerator to help keep the water oxygenated and evenly mixed. We use a natural beneficial bacteria product called a Biosphere to help combat algae. Then we put in some black/blue dye to help keep the sunlight from penetrating the water surface and finally, we use a really nice net to help keep organic matter off the top.

Sometimes The Problem Isn't Obvious
zhlédnutí 120KPřed dnem
We had a problem at work that was years in the making. A plugged catch basin tile was causing the driveway to flood every time it rained. We thought we would discover a drain pipe that was plugged up but what may have been wrong was not obvious. We came up with a solution despite not discovering what was wrong.

I think that one way you can invest in time for later is to purchase equipment that will save you work time, so I recently bought a compact track loader. This John Deere 331G compact track loader is the first skid steer I've ever had so I'm hoping that it will save me some time in the long run.

I Took A Firewood Log On Vacation! [Requires PATIENT Wife]

I was finally able to experience a few things that have been on my bucket list! The first was being able to put one of my firewood logs on a sawmill and make some boards. Then we rounded out our vacation with a trip to Orlando to visit Harry Potter and then finished up with a total solar eclipse that was easily visible from home. Thanks to Jeremy at Cairn Creek for helping me to save this white...

Pond Is Filling Up & You Might Be Surprised How Long It Took!
While I am sure you dont have to follow codes there, you should never run a 14 wire off of a 12 circuit.. It's not allowed...
We use the gas powered leaf blower, with the wind to your back, to blow the debris to one spot, and then skim it off with the net.
Very interesting video, but I would say if you just had a chainsaw or two with the right people with axes Cut the logs so they could be split with an axe 8 inches. It would be much cheaper and probably just as quick taking everything into account setting up the machine the higher of the machine stoppage time with blockages and you’ll end up being much fitter at the end.
You don't have fish,.... yet. Somehow, they magically appear on their own.
Nice! Great work! Happy Swimming!
Betta SE pool skimmer
In my pool we use a solar, skimmer by Betta. There is a new one that is a smart one, but the blue one is not and has a remote. Ours is in the sun all day here in SC, and as long as it's sunny and charged, it skims 24/7. A pond that size, I'd get 2. Amazon has them for $328 each. We LOVE IT. Our salt pool is crystal clear!
Looksg like a fine job. My family been in the DrainTie laying business in central Missouri since the mid 70’s .We still run 2 VErmeer T600C’s and Case 580SM 4x4 Backhoes. We used Hancor field until ADS bought them out. We now use only Springfield Plastics field tile. I started full time in the summer of 1983. Over the years I have thrown countless rolls of 4”-5” and 6”” field tile on a dual reel carrier on the front of those 600 C’s. Now we only use Maxi’s.
Are you still painting the John Deere skid steer yellow?
If you didn't I'd recommend getting rid of the wires you have tied to the pump. They are a drowning hazard. A small one, yet one still.
Quick tip. Keep your feet on the pegs unless stopped. No matter what. Trust me, it will eat you.

I’m from Australia. I had no idea how much work goes into making your house ready for winter. It’s winter here at the moment. I just went for a walk in my shorts to The Gym and home in my singlet
Id install a bio filtration system in that pond. 10% of the volume in IBC toats, connected top to bottom with decent size piping (at least 4 inch), then filled with filter brushes. With big amounts of fish in the pond you would usually pump its volume once per hour through the filter. Hence its just for swimming half of the volume per hour should be enough to keep it nice and clean. Building such is a bio filter is a bit much to explain here in the comments. Pros of the Bioi filters: Easy and Cheap to build, easy maintenance, low running costs due to not having any filters to clean, just needs a pump. The intake for the filter could be realsied through one or more skimmers, the outlet is then placed oin the opposite site of the pond and slowly pushes the leaves into the skimmers
I’m from Australia. I suggest you call him Bluey
slick be great to see Wes Mike and yourself make a project video together
This is nutty.... you could have put in a literal water park for cheaper.
A dad/electrician is a great blessing!
I think some floating plants like lily pads or related and cattails could filter the water good enough so nutrient load doesn't build up for algae growth.
The opening shot of the kids jumping in the pond so clever. Nice touch. I've enjoyed this pond series
Thanks!
pool vs pond without fish - difference?
Less maintenance, larger size, lower operating cost, no need to winterize, better country aesthetics, much cheaper to install!!! Plus, in the future it most likely will have fish! It's flexible :)
Your trips to the shop resemble my trips to Home Depot on any given project, only Home Depot is a 10 minute drive
A silage blanket with some floats would cover the pond keeping out light for algae and debris from getting in. The white/black sides could help cool/heat the pond for swimming.
Loved the shot with all the beer cans on the table
I bought a Betta Bot solar powered skimmer and love it. I have a 25,000 gallon pool in the middle of a bunch of trees. It’s great as it works 24/7 skimming the top. I have a referral code I can send you if you want. I have nothing to do with the company but just bought it as a consumer and really like it.
I need to look into one of those for sure!
More than enough room to build a large natural charcoal, sand, and pebble filter.

Three Thumbs Up! Priceless advice often lost on the generations raised on credit cards. Having lived both ways, I now sleep better, and live better, debt-free. Every month you make your payments you're reminded that "it's not yours", and that eats away at your sense of well-being, monthly. I'd take a pond over a swimming pool twenty out of ten days.
Thanks so much!

AquaSkim In-Pond Surface Skimmer could be a solution...
Pour beach sand into the pond and it’ll be crystal clear like a tropical island… not like it’s gonna be stocked with fish …..
Maybe late summer u can put heat so it would be a heated pond
I watched Linus Tech Tips the the other day, they did a story on "Beatbot AquaSense Pro Spotlight". It will dive and clean to bottom or float and skim the top.
I have an 81 id like to eventually do this to.
I enjoyed watching your videos. As others commented, you may want to filter the water. I suggest you take a look into davidpaganbutler's Oliver filter/skimmer design. The Olive floats on the water. It draws in the water to be filtered/skimmed using a vortex, and it only requires air from a small air compressor. One problem is that David operates in the UK. So you may have to DIY it, but it doesn't seem too complicated. Disclaimer: I don't own a Olive or even a pond, but davidpaganbutler's channel have excellent content on natural ponds. David is also an expert on natural ponds and he even does consultation to help other people build them.
I use my John Deere 316 to pull stumps And my Arians zero turn
Just a suggestion why don’t you just put in a smart outlet by the compressor plug it into that than you can turn it on and off from the patio with your phone then you don’t have to run a switch all the way to the doorway
No WiFi in the barn...
