I rock a fat tad cxs that I upgraded with a Tongshen mid drive, works like a CHAMP and you can even put a second chain ring on the mid drive, giving you stupid top end and torque both. I had to upgrade my tires because the stock ones don't have enough grip to use the mid drive and the fronts slide in hard cornering (vee huntsman on the back and speedsters on the front, everything is magical now).

The one I tested in Florida was decent but front wheel only and not high wattsge, a Mid drive is probably the way to go if you have a lot of hills, but gets expensive.

​@@MotoCheez nah, it's like two fiddy USD to replace the motor if you whack it. And there's open source FW for people who like to tune stuff. Mine has been running so good on the stock FW I haven't bothered to mess with it. The only way to get a cheap upgrade is to do it yourself, with bent tads (Utah Trikes wants 4k for the cheapest frame with locked out bafang or shimano, et al). The whole kit is about 325 or so USD on ebay and comes fast (not affiliated); uses generic bike batteries so you can dial your cost to how much battery you want or build your own using generic shells. Has built in torque sensor and I haven't bothered installing the cadence or speed sensors because it just works and doesn't care what speed it goes, it just cares about RPM. I have no throttle installed (make sure to check if you have the 5 or 6 pin connector on the motor if you want a dedicated throttle) and it does great, no latency, smooth acceleration at 80%-100% left leg assist (spinal cord has damage). Since it's just a bottom bracket swap, you take off more parts than you put back in; once I figure out what I was doing (I'm not a bicycle mechanic) it took like 15-20 minutes to swap out and get the cranks back on/correctly spaced. A competent bike mechanic could do it in 5 min probably. I'm droning on but man I could never afford to buy my trike with it built in; I have to learn stuff and install it but it's not rocket surgery, mostly plug n play. I had to give up my sit on upright rides (dirt bikes, mostly) and got a deal on the cheapest full suspension trike there is - Sunseeker Fat Tad CXS (not affiliated) it's like riding a lawn chair with dual cupholders and half height ape hangers - I love it and ride it everywhere, to death, many times, and it's dead atm lol. right now I'm building a CVT hub to replace the cassette, because I'm breaking the derailleurs/hangers/brackets all the time; it's a 300 USD upgrade but I'll get back the full range after losing two chain rings off the front (see, stuff comes off lol). And I won't spend 75 bucks every time I clip an outcropping of basalt. Next up is a chrome plated chain, likely, to fend off the silt that keeps grinding the stock one to pieces and you'll also want to upgrade to hydraulic brakes (I was quoted 36 USD/ft but if it don't break then it's worth it until I can get belt upgrade designed). The scooter came with them and they're a dream; I turned my stock CXS brakes to glass on the first 500 ft descent on cater rd outside Halloweentown here (yep, the Twilight House too). I just ordered a insta360 (finally saved enough to) so I'll be posting footage of my scooter fun on powerline trails and whatnot getting my legs back stronger again while my trike is down :-) I'll probably test the camera doing a review of current projects I need to finish or get archived and packed away for now. Thanks for the sweet content and seeing us out here tryna do the same thing! I am happy to save people the pain of building their own, if they can use my tidbits. I will be sure to give insight into next builds; I have a road tad that came with a tiny honda motor - the last guy used it to zip between construction sites as a boss (considering a hybrid system like the Audi QS eTron because the motor is REALLY tiny) and a two wheel bent that needs building up if I can ever get strong enough again to self balance it. I didn't put my laser thermometer on the battery or the hub but I did put my hands on it, the hubs get pretty warm but not terrible and the batteries barely get lukewarm. I don't wait to plug in the battery to charge it because they don't feel hot at all. The area around where the controller is housed gets pretty warm too

It doesn't have cruise that I know of, the last bike I reviewed had it so I tested on this one

In the manual, it shows a cruise control figure on the display screen also, so it should?. I just can't find out how to activate it. Need a good representative from ridstar.. 😆

Pretty sure you can set it in the settings, but is the type that when you hold a certain speed for a certain amount of time it will stick there. I do not like those style cruise control so I usually don't activate it

@@MotoCheez We didn't like the gravel portions because it was hard to pedal. My road tires didn't like it. His were even worse because they were tall and skinny. It would probably be much easier to ride on with even a normal fat tire bike. One of the e-trikes would be fun on it too. The basket would be handy. :)

@@MotoCheez As far e-bike rides go I think I like your long rail trail rides the best. They're more contained versus dodging traffic. Plus they have some kind of pit stop or small shop on them. :)
