The White Sox' hiring of Tony La Russa has me nostalgic for his first tenure with the team. Here's a game from 1983, when the Sox won the AL West with 99 victories. In front of 46,000-plus on a Saturday night at old Comiskey Park, the Sox beat the Yankees 5-1 as Richard Dotson went the distance. The video starts in the second inning with scored tied 1-1. My wife and I created the king size bedsheet banner that said "no flag burners here, God Bless the USA! We did it because we were tired of having the media being filled with protesters and we wanted to support the troops and to support patriotism. We stayed up till 4 AM the night before the game with magic markers and the giant king size sheet in our kitchen making the giant banner. Little did we know how much impact that sign and others would contribute to a feeling of patriotic values the kind of which had not been seen in Chicago or nationally until then. General Schwartzkopf reported that when he saw the national anthem, he told Bill Wirtz, " hockey game? That was no hockey game, that was the greatest display of American patriotism and support for our troops that I've ever seen". I knew from the moment I saw that, but I had no problem with the American public. I still have the sign today. Thrilled to cut through all of the media propaganda and to show patriotism even when it's being suppressed nationally. God Bless the USA.

11:38 Geez - Steve Lyon's comment about throwing the fan on the field....totally ridiculous and irresponsible. Gonzalez blew an easy double play. Also, they left Prior in too long. He was struggling in the 8th after 100+ pitches. Why didn't they bring the reliever in after the walk?

I remember feeling bad when they kept showing the fan in left field, who we didn't yet know the name of. I was wondering why that mattered so much to the TV crew since Prior was so legit I figured he'd get out of it. But then I remember tripping out when Gonzalez made the error. It was so easy getting that first out, it makes sense how it would all unravel after that. Cubs style. 2016 was a good time for the cursebreaker but the 2003 team is the one that would have been really special to see win it all.
