Roche's Point is a promontory just outside the entrance to Cork Harbour in the south of Ireland. It has contained a lighthouse since 1817, with the current one being built in 1837. On the maiden voyage of the Titanic, the ship dropped anchor in the bay opposite the lighthouse, with passengers being ferried to and from Cobh (then Queenstown). The lighthouse would have been one of the last land b...

A corniche is a road on the side of a cliff or mountain, with the ground rising on one side of the roadway and falling away on the other. Thankfully, I've never had any issues with other traffic. Probably that just means that I’m lucky! I find it more comfortable to cycle in the countryside than in the cities and try to find quieter roads. Have you any particular areas that you’d like to explore?

This is an amazing climb and descent!!! I rode from Esquinzo to Costa Calma where I picked up the FV-605 and rode past La Pared to Pajara, After a cafe stop I went up and down this climb, fed the chipmunks and ravens biscuits at the top and rode back to Esquinzo, it's a must do climb. That's a good cycle! I know some people don't like the barren scenery in Fuerteventura, but I love this particular descent. It mightn't be as spectacular as say cycling to Cofete Beach (czcams.com/video/WN50rkQhgQ8/video.html), but it's hard to beat for road cycling.

    • @qcsorter4626

It probably depends on where you're starting from. I base myself in Caleta de Fuste and go from there to Antigua via the FV-413, then the steep climb to Mirador de Guise y Ayose, down to Betancuria, along the fabulous road in this video to Pájara, then back to Caleta de Fuste via Tuineje and Agua de Bueyes. It's about 80km and I prefer to do the big climb to Mirador de Guise y Ayose first, just to get it out of the way while I'm still fairly fresh. Going in this direction has the added bonus that you're riding next to the drop edge of the road and is thus a bit more exciting! Most of the road is fine for driving. It is a little bit narrow in places but careful driving will see you safely through. Just slow down entering blind corners. (At 05:25 I think the car takes the corner much too quickly). The trip is worth it for the magnificent views along the way.

Having ridden those hills in both directions, it's great to see someone has made a video of it. On my last decent, I was caught behind a coach which I caught up with on every bend and had to brake almost to a standstill, most frustrating. A real mental and physical challenge. Well Done. Lots to do in Fuerteventura! Car hire is relatively cheap but there's also a good bus service. You can expect nice weather in May but not too hot - mid 20s°C. As Fuerteventura is a windy island you may not realise just how hot it is so be sure to have a high (30+) sunscreen. Most hotels are good value and everything is geared towards tourism. Corralejo in the north and Morro Jable in the south are worth visiting. If you hire a car be sure to drive along the FV-30 road from Betancuria to Pajára, stopping off in Betancuria for a meal. It's a lovely scenic road with lots of nice views. You can have a preview on some of my other videos on CZcams. czcams.com/video/lCGJdHyZdGo/video.html
