A legendary LP to which I listened many times over, and esteem dearly!
Anyone know the names of the instrumentalists?
Thank you so much. Just lovely. In the early sixties, I used to go to a place called "The Drift Inn" in Malibu in order to hear Mr. Shank and his superb quartette (possibly Claude Williamson on piano, but can't remember the others-might have been Red Mitchell on bass) in ridiculously beautiful circumstances. Also, went to see him at the Lighthouse in December of 1958. Pretty sure that Bob Cooper was on Tenor at the time (1958 is getting a bit hazy). Anyway, such truly fantastic memories; such truly fantastic music. Thanks again. You got more? How much does it cost to "Subscribe?"
GREATTTTTTTT
I saw LA4 at UCLA with Cal Chamber Symphony and also at Shelly's Manne Hole in Redondo Beach during the 70's. Each member was great and together they were the best. I have 5 cds of their music.
Thanks so much for posting this! In the 70s, I saw Laurindo Almeida, Ray Brown, Bud Shank and Shelly Manne at the Paul Masson Winery overlooking the Santa Clara Valley. Is this the same lineup? Sure sounds like it.

The album is Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte.

One of the best sounding vinyl records I have
Excuse me, could you share this melody in mp3 format?

stay golden
one of those tunes won't let go
It's absolutely criminal that this masterpiece sits in obscurity with only 2600 views. It is a significantly more powerful jazz interpretation than either of the better known pieces by Miles Davis and Jim Hall respectively. Certainly the most widely known and played classical work from Spain, it only became known after his death that the sadness of the adagio reflected Rodrigo's grief at the stillbirth of what would have been his only son. That sadness and pain are brought to an emotional climax by Bud Shank's brilliant saxophone work. The saxophone is perhaps the most emotionally expressive of all instruments, particularly in the hands of a master like Shank. I have heard many versions of this adagio - both as originally written for guitar and orchestra, and the version for trumpet - and IMHO this is the finest version of this piece ever recorded.

I have to agree. I have to start again and take notes unless some has already done this. I think I have listened to at least 6 'versions.
Thanks for putting this here!
Love these guys
Laurindo is my favorite guitar player.. a wonderful arranger..
I should be respectful About The Other brazilian quitar Players... for my taste and knowledge Joao Gilberto would be second best to me !! He, Stan Getz and others, gave us the best arrangements in bossa nova ever !
The original eastwind direct to disc LP's are fabulous!
Fabulous and under rated direct to disc LP. Hard to find original d2d's are the best but can also be found on cd's and reissue vinyl.
Incredibile.
I bought this album years ago and loved it especially my romance, how light and breezy and delightful
I always thought dilla programmed that percussion. Also 6:00 sound like something he'd sample. I know I will.. Mad funky record!
Very cool...
Finally I found it!! Thank you Lafourfan
how the hell did dilla find these samples... so crazy and talented
Beautiful West Coast Jazz. Top artistry!
After 34 years, I finally found this! This is part of my youth, Thank you Lafourfan!
This a Jeff Hamilton arrangement !
bring back memories from Las Vegas.... grettings from mexico
Una maravilla ! I hope to find a tab.
four pros: Manne, Shank, Brown, Almeida.
Ditto that!!!
I think this is an extraordinary recording.
I'm the LA4fan, too. and I like tthis musiic best of theirs.
prepare to get _J A Z Z E D_
I saw this band many years ago in Sydney Aus; the height of taste, style, class and anything else that makes up heavenly music; Shelley didn't even have a drum rise, but shit he was good as they were all; RIP
1:34 chills
Chills and tears. Miss Dilla

Excelso!
