Which Salt is the Best? Doctor's Review of Kosher, Pink Himalayan, Sea, Table, and Salt Substitute
Which Salt is the Healthiest? Doctor's Review of Kosher, Pink Himalayan, Sea, Table, and Salt Substitute
This week we are discussing five different kinds of salt: Kosher, Table Salt, Sea Salt, Pink Himalayan and Salt Substitutes. The most recent recommendations tell us to stay under 2300 mg of sodium a day, but the average American eats over 3400 mg each day, and many of you out there may be eating way more than that.
Did you know that one just slice of pizza from a restaurant is around 957 mg of sodium? So keeping your sodium levels down is important to stay healthy. You can find sodium information on every package in the grocery store and from nutrition information listed on restaurant websites.
But to flavor your food there are many varieties of salt out there to buy. So which one should you be choosing? Watch the video now because we are going to dive into 5 different versions.

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”. The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way.
I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.
Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and CZcams sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 CZcams subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

Thanks so much. You explained everything so well. I am doing mostly what you mentioned here and not so hard on myself. I eat mainly vegetables and some fruits, nuts and seeds, fish sometimes. I eat chicken now and then and meat now and then too. I make my own homemade mayo and it has two eggs in it but it lasts me about two weeks. So apart from that i eat eggs only sometimes. Last year i had stage 3 a kidney disease and now back to normal thanks to God and my mainly plant based diet. I am lower carbs so only have brown rice now and then. I have cream in my drinks, mainly three times a day so that's mainly my animal protein for the day really. That's about it.

I have thought that my coffee was possibly dehydrating, so I drink more water to counteract that. My husband tells me that I am drinking too much and that could be doing more harm than good.

Thank you for a great talk. I drink a lot of water in the evening while cooking supper, the negative of this is waking up at least three times to pee. During the day I have a cup of black tea when I awake, black coffee at 10:00 then a glass of water at lunch time or if I am thirsty. I try and eat a lot of fruit in the mornings for breakfast and use pears and apples to snack on. Yesterday I got good news that in the last months my kidney function has improved From 33% to 53%. I don't have kidney disease, but he made a very dangerous statement: "your kidneys will let you know how much water you need. So just drink when your thirsty". Unless I've been sweating due to extreme heat, or exercising, I'm never thirsty. This has caused me to dehydrate and develop kidney stones. I asked a doctor once why I'm rarely thirsty, and he gave me a blank puzzled stare and said nothing. Most doctors are like trained monkeys. They read off a script they are told to obey. If you ask them an unusual question that requires them to think, their brain just stops working. So to keep from dehydrating, I do a rough measurement of the fluids I consume each day. If I get behind on the fluid minimum, I drink extra the rest of the day to catch up. If I sweat, I have thirst, but I don't count the liquid towards my minimum during the thirst period.

3 weeks ago l had to go to er, blood pressure at home was 235/121, I'm supposed to do it everyday n write it down. It squeezes my arm up to the 300 mark and it is very very painful, sometimes I have to stop n rip it off, my son took his right after me and it only went up to 150 n stopped squeezing on him. Hiw can I get it to stop thst soon, I can't take this , it bruises me. And my BP is still high., can that be because my arm is hurting n I'm really stressed from the pain of it?
