So many piles to burn!
We have a LOT of debris around the 30 acres here to clean up, and it's more or less a constant project for us. With building the house a priority, we haven't had much time to spend on taking care of the property other than to keep the fields mowed and cleaned up as much as possible. Heck, just keeping that 1/4 mile drive in shape would be a full time job.

If you like snow....

You'll love this. We're smack dab in the middle of the Snow Belt, so we're supposed to be in for a lot of this stuff. Our first couple of years have been a roller coaster of snow. The very first snow dumped a couple of feet on us over a few days, and since then, not much happening. We get a little bit pretty constantly all winter long, but so far, thankfully, only the one big dump. We've never ...

Sharon takes you on a quick tour of what we've been up to with the house build through October 2022. Things have been moving along pretty quickly up until now, trying to get everything dried in and weather tight going into the snow season here in the Upstate. We're in the notorious "snow belt" east of the Great Lakes and can get dumped on at any time, with temps going down to the -30's and -40'...

Finishing the upstairs loft guest bedroom areas...
zhlédnutí 8Před 14 dny
Our loft space includes two guest bedrooms and a full bath along with a large landing with a big closet for storage. Due to the fact that it's a loft with knee walls, it takes a bit more thought in designing the layout. We didn't want to lose the space behind the knee walls, so we decided to use that space for concealed storage. We look forward to having guests over now!
The wife, as it turns out, can build some pretty amazing furniture...
zhlédnutí 87Před 14 dny
The wife has discovered that she has what it takes to build a lot of the furniture we'll need. She's been using the rough cut pine and hemlock from our property that our Amish friends milled for us. She planes it, sands it, stains or does a paint wash on it to the desired finish and it always looks awesome. This particular project is a queen sized bed for an upstairs guest bedroom. She made our...

The wife is very good at doing the detail work involved in a large portion of our projects. Cutting, planing and painting the pickets is something she's good at, and then taking the time necessary to make sure each of them is placed perfectly, beginning with finding the center of the section and working out exactly where to place the first one. And there are SO MANY of them!

    Cant remember if you said, but is running a power line to your house out of site price wise? I know you did a well and was thinking you were not going to have to, but is seem like a wire would sure make life easier!

    • @AlAndValOffGrid
      @AlAndValOffGrid Před měsícem

      Running a line to the house would have cost us more than our entire solar system and we'd still be stuck with monthly payments, power outages and keeping corporate CEOs in yachts. I'd been researching off-grid living for a few years prior to making this move, so I'd already pretty much made up my mind to do it. The huge expense just to run a line to the house was just the final nail in the connected coffin. We've never looked back.

  • @AlAndValOffGrid

    All the prep work made the difference. Once we had everything measured, cut and ready for the floor joists, it was super strong and level with the existing sub floor. We made sure to have everything lined up so that the 3/4" T&G flooring we laid down over the old section and our new section were nice and even. Made for a good even surface to put our finished flooring on once we were ready to install that.

    Bluetti is a great company to do business with. We bought this unit on June 12th and discovered yesterday that they're running a $100 off special. I contacted them to ask for a refund of that $100, never expecting anything, and the next day they responded that they were issuing a refund for $100 to the card I used for the purchase. You don't get service like that much any more!

    Hey David, this thing sounds like a beast. Is the Anker 757 the same thing as a Bluetti AC200P. I mean, do the both do the same thing? I don't have a Bluetti yet, it is on my list to get. But if they are somewhat close in what they do, the Anker sounds like a much more robust unit than the bluetti. Am I close or are they two totally different items? Thanks in advance.

    • @AlAndValOffGrid
      @AlAndValOffGrid Před 2 lety

      They in fact both do the same thing. Bluetti just has more power available (to run more items or larger items) and should last a bit longer before needing charging while doing so. The Anker indicates a 1500 watt unit while the Bluetti is a 2200 watt unit. The Anker offers 1229 watt hours of usage and the Bluetti offers 2048 watt hours. So the Bluetti is in fact the more robust of the two. From Bluetti's information: 2,200W AC Pure Sine Wave Inverter (4,800W Surge) 2,048Wh Capacity LiFePO4 Battery with 3,500+ Life Cycles to 80% Expandable Up To 6,144Wh with 2×B230, or 8,192Wh with 2×B300 7 Ways to Recharge (AC/Solar/Car/Generator/Lead Battery/Dual AC/AC+Solar) 900W Max. Solar Input 1300W Max. Fast Dual Charging (Solar + AC Adapter) Smart Control & Monitor in BLUETTI App Finally, you can add additional batteries (up to 2 I think) to increase storage to over 8000 watts. I hope this helps!

    The camper (and us) managed to make it all the way up to New York after a two day journey through some of the worst rain we've driven in. From Harrisburg, PA to Upstate New York, it was a solid deluge the whole way. a two day, 16 hour trip but the Ford F150 pulled that camper like it wasn't even behind us (But I kept looking to make sure it was!) Now we're living in it on our new homestead as we await the final closing signing to make the property our own.
