    You gotta blame Kevin Jones for pretty much inventing breakless tricks. I'm an 80s rider and I still use breaks........however, I do a combination of both old and new tricks. so if you want to do that combo, ok then use breaks if you want to spin in a circle then don't use breaks.

    I went old school and bought a BIG DADDY flatland frame from Hoffman Bikes. frame is modeled after Flatland Legend Kevin Jones. The guy who pretty much invented breakless tricks in the late 80s such as the hitchhiker, death truck, etc etc etc.

    One thing to consider is what fork to pear with the La Bastille as it has a 75.7 Head Tube Angle so a zero offset fork will very twitch. 2nd thing is that most frames does not come with rear brake mounts if you want to use a rear brake.

    • @flatlandjourney
      @flatlandjourney Před 19 dny

      Ya thats a good point about the La Bastille. I think a minimal offset fork (10-15mm) would go well with it. And ya, thats right about needing a frame with brakemounts.

    I love your videos. Please keep sharing more content... Regarding the frame, do you feel at some point the necessity to have more space between the down tube and the front wheel? I see that nowadays a lot of flatland frames looks like a traditional bmx design, but there are some other flat frames that have different designs and apparently they have more space for front wheel tricks. Thanks a lot and regards from Brazil. Obrigado!!

      Great question, The trend right now is to make Flatland and Bikes look more like street bikes, hence getting rid of the bent tubes that were standard for flatland frames in the past. There are, however, some advantages to having a bent downtube that would allow for more space between the front wheel and the downtube. For example, when doing squeakers it would give you more space so your fo maneuver. Some current frames that still use bins in the tubing are the far east cycle Ramen and we the people utopia. Both are great frames

    Diatech Flexie, makes that tight turn easily and wont put unwanted pressure/leverage on the brake arm. Still keeps the brake feeling firm and has a threaded barrel adjuster. i think its better than the v brake noodle end. cuz the hard noodle still relies on the flex of the brake cable housing. If you're good at setting up your brakes you can make either work but i found the flexie easier to set up.

    What size bike and brand would you recommend for a 6ft guy wanting to do old school tricks?

    • @flatlandjourney
      @flatlandjourney Před 2 měsíci

      Sorry for the late response here. A lot of it will depend on your price range. If you have some cash, the colony prody complete bike is the way to go. Occasionally, it won’t go on sale I’msourcebmx.com or Danscomp.com for around $800. That is a top-notch bike and also has some of that old-school style to it. If you are wanting to get a more cost-effective option, any of the Haro DLX models would be set up for old-school tricks out of the box. They come with front and rear brakes and four pegs. The Ares sword would be a middle of the road option for you. This bike includes a free coaster hub, which would allow you to do some new school tricks as well. Keep in mind that when people get their first bike, they often figure out what they would like or change as they develop as a rider. You may not know exactly what you want at first. so you kind of need to just get what you can’t afford and start riding. Then you can modify the bike to suit your preferences as you go.

    Try to have the griptape seams end on the bottom of the peg. Your foot will cause the seams to peel back. I heat mine up with a lighter and squeeze out any micro air pockets. Also, new grip tape can be a little too grippy for some subtle movements, so sand the coarseness down abit, and for foot pivots, i keep a inch of peg on the ends with no griptape-makes foot switchups easier to pivot on.

    • @jessehefferon6276

      However, really grippy griptape on pegs yields greatly to rolling tricks in terms of stability. Forward rolling hitch hikers-no handed back to steamroller and back to hitch hiker, that was alot of fun when I started doing it progressively roiling faster and faster. Good times were had man.

    Another tip that helped me lock in was dropping your wrists so that your knuckles are pointing upwards. It give you a stronger grip and allows you to steer. Also learning how to isolate parts of your body for balance and other parts loose for counter balance. The push forward has to be enough to get the backend up but has to be done in a subtle motion so it doesn’t interfere with your balance. I’m not trying to take away from the tutorial, I just wanted to add a little more depth to the technique. It took me 8 months to finally get hang five. I was a freestyler prior to learning hang five and I didn’t consider myself as being a flat lander until I got hang five. And just as he said in the tutorial it opens doors to other possibilities. Ten minutes after I got it I was I was able to do it one handed and carve into a tight circle. Now I can do hang five to several different tricks. I posted some videos on my CZcams channel years ago. My riding became more refined after I moved my riding spot indoors. I think I posted some videos of when I had just put in the wood floor. The rest are on my Facebook page. For those who care to watch start by watching the CZcams videos first than check out the ones on my Facebook. You’ll see how my riding and style evolved. Good luck you guys! Tire almost rubbing the cable, depending on your forks axle slots, some forks axle(3/8) slots have room for a thin steel sleeve for the axle to sit in the forks and raise the cable from the tire, by a little tho. If this isn't enough, I'd just Dremel tool a vertical slot without compromising the forks integrity.

    also using the zephyr tires..love 'em.about the brake housing getting rubbed..mine got worn off...you can drill a hole in the forks and run a bolt through it, like the old side pull brakes...but what it does is pushes the cable to one side...that works for me...I did have the same issue..other than what you're already doing with 2 zip ties...I use my two zip ties right next to each other(zero spacing) to really focus their strength where the cable wants to rub.
