Memory {Cats ~ Broadway, 1982} - Betty Buckley
Finally, here's a live recording of Betty Buckley as Grizabella in Cats. I'm so sorry about the audio; I tried my best to tweak and fix it but there we go. I know it isn't the best in terms of sound quality and it does not do her justice at all, but this is the only known bootleg of Betty in the original Broadway run. I'm more than lucky enough to get my hands on it lol.

Here's the celebrated French thespian Leslie Caron as Madame Armfeldt in the first ever French production of Stephen Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music' at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Shame there are no close-ups but this show has a limited run (about 5-6 days) and we fans are so lucky it was filmed at all. Enjoy! :D

Do You Hear The People Sing? Indianapolis, IN November 7, 2011 I'm not familiar with the other girl. All I know about her is that she played Reno Sweeney in the recent Broadway revival of Anything Goes. I'm not really a fan of this Glee-inspired (bleargh!) arrangement but since someone requested it, here it is. I have to say that the performance itself is okay though. Enjoy!

Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach in Jesus Christ Superstar. I know his so-called over-the-top Jesus was panned by a lot of fans of the musical but he nailed it imho. It's a rock musical after all. Honestly, I enjoyed this performance very much. Sooo Skid Row lol. :p

I'm 70-adjacent and watching this with much different eyes and ears than even 10 years ago. Bittersweet. Deliciously bittersweet but still bittersweet. It's amazing to me the craft of Mr Sondheim's ability to evoke emotions - complex emotions. And made it look easy and made it memorable. Thank Dog for the miracle that is CZcams!

The chills of listening to and singing along to the original cast album for 40 years - and then actually seeing Roscoe sing these Beautiful Women (sorry) down those famous stairs. Oh! Most def one of the highlights of my life - I had to pinch myself. I shouted myself horse and didn't care one bit. I still get chills watching

NY Times: "For theater lovers there can be no greater pleasure than to witness Bernadette Peters perform the show's signature number with an emotional transparency and musical delicacy that turns this song into an occasion of transporting artistry...[it's] an indelible moment in the history of musical theater." After reading this, I went twice, including the last show of the run with Bernadette...pure magic, and SS came out at the end of the show to say hi. If only there was a cast recording with her on it.

I'd never hate on anyone, but I have trouble agreeing with or seeing perspective of others here. Technically I think all is fine, but I just don't find the performance all that enjoyable. I feel their might be cultural prejudice here in me. But she got thru it and she is still here.

I think these concerts have done a real disservice to the show. Since they started doing these, people want the singers to sound as if they're singing a concert and not presenting a character. Luckily, Frances presents hers here. What made her special was her vocal ticks and odd pronunciations that gave her a sound of lower class to the higher class Cosette and Marius. She shouldn't sound "beautiful" but more like an Eliza Doolittle before her transformation. I remember when the first cast recording came out, this song stood out and was popular because she had such a unique voice.

The most wonderful Norma I saw. Elaine, Glenn and Petula all brought something different to the role, but only Betty captured the classy, seductive sex appeal of silent stars. The others were too cartoonish and ‘mad’ from the outset. Betty descended into madness. I saw Betty 5 times in London, she was magnificent each time. I also saw Patti who was not at ease in the role and seemed not fully formed - the show itself felt half baked when it opened which didn’t help. When the show closed for a short period and Betty arrived in London it was a total transformation, including a much more satisfactory finale. Thank you for this video, it has brought back many wonderful memories of family and friends I took to see her, as well as this amazing talent.

Wow, the first half of the song did not prepare me for the last third, astonishing. I saw her in NYC when she starred in Sunset Blvd. I made a pre, iose to myself if she ever performed in NYC on Broadway, I would go, and well, she did not disappoint. Every song she sang, she received a standing ovation, I have never experienced anything like that, and she was greater then I ever dreamed. or hoped. One of the highlights on my life.
