We hit a pocket of milky to clear phantom quartz clusters in northwestern South Carolina, went to swim & hunt rocks, sorry though we didn’t film the location because we would like it to remain a semi secret location
Cutting and polishing Savannah river “agate”, or Georgia Chert

I cut & polish a few pieces of Georgia Chert using an 8 piece stadea pad set starting at 50 grit &ending with 6,000 grit, this stuff takes a great polish

This is a private location that normally serves as a goat farm, but our rock club has had a few digs there for its members, we are members of the upper abbeville gem and mineral club in Due West, South Carolina

did you use an rpm speed controller?
@@tovesz yes, the first couple of times I tried polishing anything I made the mistake of trying a grinder & the rpm were too high, I used a generic harbor freight polisher at around 3,500 rpm, anything past 4,000 seems too fast for those pads

What a great thing to get in the mail!!! I have had friends send me rocks over the years and I also OCCASIONALLY will buy on Ebay - and YES, opening boxes of rocks is so FUN!!! Do you remember (I am dating myself here...) the Charlie Brown Halloween show where everyone says what they got for Halloween, and Charlie, all sad, says "I got a ROCK." That would have been my favorite Halloween ever! Anyway, thanks for sharing it with us. I feel that way in my channel too - the most fun part about the rock hobby is being able to and having someone to share it with. Awesome watch. If you see anything of mine that interests you, maybe we can trade too! There are a few things that I have a lot of and could spread the joy a bit with.
Heck yeah, I do a good bit of trading, I do need to get out & do some rockhounding to restock my trade stuff, but I saw a similar meme where someone got a lump of coal in their stocking & got all excited to put it on their display shelf, but I will get in touch with you sometime in the future about a trade

You're very welcome, Jesse!! I'm just happy you love it. You know, it's funny you mention how much I must have to be able to give away so much sweet material. Well, I guess I do have a lot. Lol.. I think I realized it once I had your box packed and I couldnt tell that anytimg was missing from my oversized display. But I love sharing with cool people so you're very welcome! I really love the big chunks of the amethyst vein like the one I sent you. They just look so amazing and it also takes such an amazing shine if you polish it using the diamond pads. I definitely had to get you a big chunk like this to check out. Anytime you make it to Vegas, I'd be happy show you the area this material came from. You'd be like a kid in the candy store. Yeah, we would love to get out west sometime, we have a lot of pets that make it difficult to get away from here for much longer than a day trip, but we’re looking into getting a van soon though so that would make it easier to travel with dogs, we’re shooting for Arkansas for our next big trip, trying to get to Pennsylvania too this year, so hopefully we can make it west sometime in the next couple of years, this whole trade thing has been great, & I’m glad I finally gave in & got a smart phone a few years back & got this CZcams channel going, it’s definitely opened up a whole new world of rockhounding opportunities for us, thanks so much for doing this man
Chris is literally drowning in amethyst! Lol! Such a wonderful box! Those points are amazing! He is literally addicted to the Kingston Range! Purple gold! Chris is an amazing Rockhound and person! Thanks for watching Lisa. & this was incredibly generous of him, we haven’t hit a big pocket of amethyst yet in South Carolina, we find a little bit here and there, he’s definitely lucky to have so many great spots to rockhound out his way, we did an awesome trade & he must have been a Tetris champion back in the day judging by the way he packed the rocks in that box 👍✌️

Lucky. I haven’t ever found a regular crystal other than inside geodes and no amethyst.
Yeah, he’s incredibly lucky to have the spots that he does, we find alot of quartz in the area of South Carolina we’re in but amethyst is way harder to come across, even at Diamond hill it’s tough, some folks find it all the time there though, if you’re ever in the upstate hit us up, we’ll try to get you some good crystals

Just went this past Sunday, it's still everywhere. Took home a 5 gal bucket full, lots of color variations, even found a couple possible worked pieces. If anyone goes, in the summer the fire ants are everywhere as are buzzing insects. Bring your net hat or thermacell
Fire 🔥 ants!!! Yeah, I’ve been trying to get over there, I really like the stuff with the reds and blues, some have fossils in them too

Oh yes!!! I can see the phantom milky crystal inside the clear. Have you tried piecing the pocket back together? It looks like they broke apart along fairly straight fractures and you may be able to reconstruct the pocket, assuming you got all the pieces.
That sounds like an awesome day! Going to the beach to cool down and find a sweet quartz crystal pocket to dig at the same time. I'm a sucker for the big chunks with crystal pockets on/in them. I always end up dragging at least 1 big one home every trip out. You got out some pretty sweet plates too. That's just a (cool) dig spot! My locations are hours from water. RockOn!!!
Man, this place is beautiful, sandy cliffs over a clear lake, the person that turned me onto the area asked me not to give away the location, it’s only about a mile hike too

I can’t wait to do a video with our whole yard, I’ve been trying to go after big stuff for making flower beds, my neighbors moved & let us raid their flowers too!!! That whole area was a garage that we tore down & a driveway last year

YESSSSs, that is definitely kyanite! The stuff I have is much smaller in terms of the crystals, but same stuff for sure. Do you know if that came out of a mica schist?
