My initial purpose in setting up this channel was to share rare examples of New York sports radio through the decades in my collection. The sports talk shows of WFAN from its earlier years (1988-2003) are featured and also earlier examples of New York sports radio such as John Sterling's talk show on WMCA in the 1970s. Rare news radio coverage of historic events such as September 11, 2001 are also be featured from time to time as well.
This channel has since then branched out to include other areas of interest to me and it is my intention to try and keep posting things from these different areas in order to maintain appeal to all subscribers who came originally for one reason and not another. NY sports items will still be of importance along with news material, but I will also be posting things related to the areas of (1) classic game shows (2) auto racing and (3) Disney park attractions.

1964 New York World's Fair: Ford Magic Skyway
zhlédnutí 113Před 16 hodinami
One of the most famous attractions at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair was the "Ford Magic Skyway" presented by Walt Disney as visitors rode Ford Mustangs on a journey back into the prehistoric past and into the future. Unlike other Disney attractions at the Fair, the Magic Skyway would not be duplicated at Disneyland or Disney World, though one dinosaur scene became part of the Disneyland Rai...

-On January 13, 1977, Peter Finch appeared as a guest on the Tonight Show, riding high his new fame for his role in "Network" as newscaster Howard Beale, who made the phrase "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" famous. The next day, Finch died suddenly of a heart attack. That night in the final segment of the Tonight Show, Johnny mentioned Finch's death and gave condolences t...

-Another auto racing upload as the Indy 500 draws near. Continuing with some radio broadcasts from the first year of the Indy Racing League in 1996. This is the New Hampshire 200 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Since the IRL ran an abbreviated three race first season that was meant to conclude at the Indy 500, this was the first race of what became the 1996-97 season (though the decision ...

The last episode of the great ABC daytime game show "Split Second" hosted by Tom Kennedy which ran from 1972-1975, noted for its fast-moving game play and end of show suspense on whether or not the winning contestant successfully picked the car that would start in the bonus round. -This last episo...

Since my upload of the pilot movie for the 1977 TV series "Operation Petticoat" is proving to be my most popular upload, here are *both* parts of the show's first regular series episode, "Yeoman Hunkle, Yeoman Hunkle." The reason for it being in two parts is because originally, when the show was sold as a series, it was going to be a one hour comedy but at the last minute it was decided to make...

-This is the only game from the 1996 World Series I have from the Braves radio network of Skip Caray, Pete Van Wieren, Don Sutton and Joe Simpson. This was the final game in the history of Fulton Coun...

Nettles may not be a hall of fames but he was clutch and a gold glove third baseman
78 Yankees great pitching, contact hitting, great defense, power when needed missing from 2024 team power yes, defense no
KC had a few crybabies in that series
What I (or some other clever person) need to do is cut this into the unabridged TBS broadcast, so we have as much Kiner/McCarver/Zabriskie as possible, and only need to endure Skip Caray and co. to fill in the gaps. Still not as good as having the full WOR available but would satisfy the goals of completeness and Mets-ness as well as can be..
I seriously doubt anything Dorothy wrote caused that much harm to Paar. He brought it on himself by whining.
Paar was a communist supporter.
0:39, where was Bill looking at the clock?
Only time I heard my grandfather curse.
This was terrible I was only 6 and didn’t quite understand but my mom who was pregnant with my youngest brother just days before his birth. Was outside crying and I asked why and she just cried more and she wasn’t even a Yankee fan (cardinals) very sad day indeed
Lifetime Yankees fan. But man, these guys were great. WOR channel 9. Mets and the Million Dollar Movie. Where did that all go?
I've been a NYR fan since 1976, and when Steve Somers hit the airwaves on the FAN he became my hockey therapy and keep me from jumping off the ledge for every bitter pill and NYR loss.. The N.Y. Icelanders TAKE THAT ! The Schmooze Rocks ! NYR's In 7.🏒
Such memories
I was at that Mets Phils doubleheader. I’ll never forget that bulletin and how shocked we all were at the game.
That's exactly how I heard the news. We were getting a cookout ready in our backyard. They must have been playing a twinight doubleheader to be playing at that time. Back then about a third of their schedule was not televised. Games on cable hadn't really gotten going yet. We didn't have cable anyway. They only had 3 announcers who worked a rotation system, so the fact that two were on the radio indicates it was not televised. What a shocker. So sad. He wanted to be able to fly back to Ohio and see his family on off days.
If I remember, part of this set was used on the BREAK THE BANK pilot, seen in the intros.
OMG, aired the same exact day that Tobey Maguire was born! (And to top it off I’m posting this comment on the same day of the year in 2024! Therefore happy 49th birthday to Tobey and happy 49th anniversary to this episode!👍)
LOVE THIS!!! I was 8, and this is the first game I truly remember attending. Yankees won 5-4.
And yes, I do remember getting this picture album the night of the game.
Funny how the mission to Mars is at the Magic Kingdom and then years later it's at Epcot center. Going over the speedway you don't hear hi everyone this is Mr Johnson. In his space copter
The more I listen to Scooter, the more I think that Mad Dog Russo made his career doing nothing more than a Phil Rizzuto impression.
I was at the game with my late father. The memories. We use to go all the time, actually we were actually at the August 26, 1978 game vs the A's, Picture Album night!
I was at that Photo Album night game too! (and I still have my album) Long traffic jam on the Bridge that night getting there but we made it in time. I have to remember to upload the radio broadcast of that game in the future.
@@epaddon I do remember it was a nice clear night. We came from NJ & went over the GW then Jerome Ave. to Yankee Stadium. I just did a YT video on Picture album night. Got Fred Stanley & Jay Johnston autos.
@@mikesbaseballcards Saw your video! I'll have the radio broadcast up tomorrow. Oakland had been overachieving with their group of on the cheap castoffs through early August and then the bottom fell out and they lost 30 of their last 40 games I think.
you know MLB had lost it's way when I'd rather watch this than what's going on these days
"Thurman Munson was just killed when, there's a base hit up the middle by Luzinski"
Steinbrenner talks about bringing young players along who weren't eligible at 16:48. That referred to Jeter who traveled with the team despite not being eligible and it turned out to be a learning experience for him.
I saw his locker in the Yankees museum, no one has ever ben in it since he passed
I am and was a Red Sox fan. The rivalry between Carlton Fisk and Thurman Munson was pretty intense. I hated Munson because of the uniform he wore. But when I heard the news of the plane crash, I bawled my eyes out. I live near Boston but at night we could pickup the Yankees radio broadcasts on AM radio if the conditions were right. I remember the first game at Yankee Stadium after the horrendous news, and Bob Sheppard was the announcer during the tribute to Thurman Munson. I was listening on the radio that night.
As a Mariner fan, I wish we had Steinbrenner as owner. He would have gotten in done for us.
It was foggy in Canton that day.
KC was so awesome back then!
One of the saddest days in my life.
That's right....A time all sports was worth watching ...today all sports, including the NFL is just so politicized....it makes me angry to try and watch, so I say to hell with these over paid, entitled bigots....I had rather sat around and twiddle my thumbs ...lol....they literally make me sick.
How can they play without Taylor Swift?
Summerall did not like the AFL/AFC. His last broadcast was Tom Brady’s first Super Bowl win when the Patriots beat the Rams in 2002.
This is pure gold. Along with the Giants-Colts championship game in the 1950’s, this is one of the two most important games in pro football history.
I was 6. We were from NYC, but temporarily living in the Chicago suburbs. It was the first game I remember watching. My dad was (and still is) a Giants fan. He was not happy with this game. I had no allegiance yet, but I became a Patriots fan. Go AFL/AFC!
I was in my family's basement. My friend Jeff was a big Yankees fan and we were sitting around just chilling when my dad comes down the stairs and asked if we'd heard about Thurman. My friend Jeff guessed " he got traded?!!" When my dad told us the news. We were Mets fans, still are. But those were some great Yankee teams in those years . Damn if he wasn't one of the great catchers of that time and always. A real tragedy.
Is that tim mccarver?
Still, the Yankees were classless and wrong for how they released him in '56. It doesn't cost anything to be decent and treat people with dignity. The stinking rot of capitalism creates these circumstances where the powerless have to abide the whims of the powerful.
I wished I could have met and known these wonderful people
Not the best episode. Redgrave was still way too "British" at this point and you see her partners struggling to simply understand what she was saying. Robertson, slouched back in his chair, was in "Can I get my check already" mode the entire episode.
I was at that Mets game and also at the Yankees game the next night. Ten year old me didn’t fully appreciate the magnitude of it all, but I knew I didn’t want to be the first to sit down during the pregame tribute at Yankee Stadium.
I was catching in a yumas game wearing number 15. When my brother told me
Jamie Lee Curtis was 19 than and eye poppin gorgeous! Now several years later, Jamie Lee Curtis is eye poppin gorgeous still!
All I know is Doc Gooden got the best punch off of the night
Bless Stick Michael and Bob Watson!
1:19:56 The entire North Atlantic "crackled with news too extraordinary to believe." (David McCallum as narrator of "Titanic: The Complete Story")
Jim Clark sulking and not talking as usual when he didn't win.
I always forget Pyramid started on CBS, before moving to ABC, and then returning to CBS again in the 80s. And funny enough, now it's back on ABC again!
I was 19 and he is and always be my favorite Yankee.. I wore number 15 all my life ..
I remember this like yesterday AUGUST 1979 GOING 2 NINTH GRADE RIP MR MUNSON
