This week I have my long awaited doctors appointment and I get to see a physio for my injury. I am still not running and I also think I made it worse at my day out at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour 😫 I am so excited to get back out running! Is this the start of the end of the my injury?! 🤞

    I’m glad you’ve gotten a diagnosis and have some exercises to do to help you. Getting injured sucks, and I definitely feel your pain. I tore a ligament in my ankle January 2023, which meant crutches and a boot for weeks. Then I followed that up with shin splints once I got back to training. But I put in the physio and the work, and I made it through and was able to run my first half marathon in January this year. It takes TIME and patience, but you can do this. I’m so happy for you that you’ve finally gone to the doctor and are getting physio.

    I am so pleased you are now moving forward with your injury.There is nothing better than feeling that you actively helping it rather than that not knowing what to do to get it right! I finally feel like that is where I am too. I always go straight to a physio when something comes up so that I can get on road to recovery as quickly as possible. Unfortunately this time, I don’t think physio knew what was wrong and I have been left floundering since. Tried out a friend who does natural therapy and finally noticing a difference.

    Honestly these injury vlogs have been helping me deal with my own running struggles this year. I was training for my first full marathon and everything was going so well but then, I live in Northern Canada and the heat this summer for the entire month of July has been insane, 35 degrees almost every day for weeks. On top of that, we’ve had a ton of wildfires which made the air quality terrible and not really safe to run in. I was able to keep up with shorter runs at indoor tracks but haven’t been able to do a single long run and I’ve had to call it quits for the marathon this year and I’m gutted. It’s been helpful to watch your vlogs and remember that it’s ok to have plans change and be disappointed. I’ll get back there when the time is right. My training has always been for life and longevity (and mental health) far more than one single race event so this is just a bump in the road and nothing more. Runners for life! Haha

    It is horrible, that you feel you should not use ressources. First - everybody is "entitled" to care! Secondly: There are people d parting hard, slipping on a beer bottle, needing care. They also get it. Thirdly: You also are a caregiver to your daughter!!! i could go on and on! Plus, you are taking care of yourself by running on so many different levels. But honestly, you should not need reasons! On the other hand I am happy that you are taken care of finally ( I love physios and sportphysiologists - they always have great insights and the best ideas for movements! They also tend to be able thinking out of the box. Plus, I learn so much visiting them. Lucy, i wish you a speedy recovery and I just want to reiterate how happy I am that you keep posting. Pressing thumbs!

    Lucy, even if you have to take a LOT of time off, you will get your fitness level back WAY WAY WAY faster and easier than it took you to develop it the first time.

    I used to feel like I wasn’t really worthy of medical care - “I’m not that special / don’t want to waste their time / other people are more important” kind of thing. I went several years without ever seeing a doctor, and I really should have (and could have, if not for the mental block), and there were some health consequences from that. I would really strongly encourage anyone with this feeling to work on directly addressing it in the way you talk to yourself and value yourself. And deliberately override this resistance every time it pops up to try to stop you from going to a doctor, and just make yourself go. You ARE important and you DO deserve care, just as I do! ❤ Also, physiotherapy is definitely worth paying for if you can afford it. Whenever I’ve gone to a physiotherapist for something, it’s been so helpful - the exercises they have given me to do at home have been very effective. They really know their stuff!

    My first visit to the physio was 11/6/24 for Achilles tendinitis. Gave me some exercises, similar to yours. Slowly it has been getting better and for the last 3 weeks have been walking 5k three times a week as a gauge or how its going. Next step later this week is to increase to 6k and hopefully after another few weeks to 7k. Had 7 appointments so far and still going. Be prepared for quite a few as tendons are slow to repair. Oh, and no insurance here and each appointment is nearly A$100.00 every time but so worth it. All the best Lucy.

      😂 It’s been dusted off 🚴🏻‍♀️ Yes I’m allowed to train on the bike and the physio has stressed I need to do extra strength training in my legs. I’ve got the confidence to get it done now that i’ve been told by her 😅 Thank you, I hope so too 🫶🏻

    Ooo, tape and accupuncture? Sounds promising! So glad you are in such qualified, knowledgeable, kind hands. Those stretches look very safe. Yay for the biking girls! 🤩 Your Matt has to be in a major headspace prepping for this! Whatever part of this goal he accomplishes (hopefully he wont get called out during!) will be what a VERRRRRY SLIM number of people ever do. Ultras are so elite. Attempting back to back to...however many he is going to do is beyond that. Cheering for it! Keep that 6 hour challenge on the back-burner. Bring a spare pair of shoes and a few fresh pair of socks and your fave snacks/hydration drinks. My oldest did a 3-hour and set a State record for his age group a year or so ago, and it was a lot of fun! Keep it "cooking" with your other goals is my vote! Way to realize that PROPER MEDICAL CARE IS FOR EVERYONE. Great message to share! ❤

    I’m sorry you’re injured. My Achilles is bothering me, too, and you’ve given me the impetus to rest my injury properly. I’ve kind of been just pushing through it. Resting here and there when it’s bad, you know? There’s a huge wildfire in my area anyway, and the air is so smoky and bad. It’s better to rest. We’ll get better. ❤ Also: You. Are. An. Athlete. You need and deserve that physio appointment.

      Oh no, I hope you’re not in bad pain! Get lots of calf stretches done and extra strength training in that area too. That’s the main advice I was given by the physio. I hope you have caught it nice and early so it can heal soon ❤️ Look after yourself, those wild fires sound scary. Thank you so much for your reassurance 🥹🫶🏻

    That Harry Potter experience looked awesome. If I ever make it across the pond, it is on my list. Your GP sounds awesome. One step closer…. I had to wait a long time for a sport med. and then physical therapist in the U.S. So it is a common issue around the world. No experience with shock therapy… if you go that route, I would be interested. Best wishes to Matt on training.

    I don't know if this is helpful but I had really bad issues with my calves at the start of the year, I couldn't even run a k without them cramping up so much I could barely walk, I stated seeing a physio, it was also an achillies issue, I really felt there was no light at the end of the tunnel, it hurt and wasn't getting better but slowly it started to and I managed to start a very moderate running plan, I have now almost built up to 5k and I'm feeling so much better, so there is hope but it's such a difficult journey, I'm sure many of us can relate, just keep going with it :)

      This is definitely helpful! My left calf has been a nightmare and both the gp and physio have said they’re also part of the problem. It’s really reassuring to know your history with it! It does feel never ending 😫😅

    All athletes get injuries, and sometimes have to sit out for weeks or months. And you are definitely an athlete! Thanks for sharing the realities of injury in real time. It's a good reminder that it's all part of the learning and growing process. And not to get political, but let's hope things start to improve for the NHS from here on out, not just for you but for everyone!

    If you have plantar fasciattis then I think you're meant to keep your shoes on to support the foot throughout the whole day. From first thing in the morning.

    Dear Lucy, I am sorry this takes longer than expected and being in pain (I know how it feels - really!)plus the issues with the house. .But I wanted to say that I am very thankful that you still keep posting. Somehow you you got to be a part of my routine and sometimes I just need a little "extra boost" for the treadmill - and then your videos are kind of a reward or a treat for me. So, I hope that you get better soon, and dont forget - sometimes, after a break, the curve goes up much faster then before and we dont actually loose that much time in terms of progress. At least thats how I feel. And Matt surely is out of this world :-)

      just a little PS: Are you not allowed to stretch when feeling the pain? If so - dont bother with this comment; if not: For me, in total different circumstances, some stretching and mobility excercises actually help a lot with pain (also it can cause more pain for a very short time). But, my pain has a total different cause AND I am a different person, so, just wanted to put it out there.

    Awww...sorry your team "lost" but being next to first of everyone isn't so bad. (I hope.) Glad it was a "family affair" at least. 😁 It has been dry here for MONTHS and last vid I wished for some of your rain, and all week and today plus more forecasted has rolled in, off and on! The ground here actually has like half inch cracks allllll in the ground. Bit disturbing. Moving on. Lots of room in a hotel is SUCH a "small thing" that makes a BIG difference. Yay for that! You are not annoying. Don't call yourself names. 💜 Get that "all clear" before going out. Look how far you are in your healing. Don't hit the reset! I have been doing that thing to relax myself where you take a nice breath in (filling the lungs nicely but not to the max) and a longer one out, a few times, calmly. There's a science behind it but I forget how to explain it. Give it a try at any moment through your day. Way to cross train, go you!! Ooo...have you ever noticed Gymshark has an app? It's blue and called "Training" (at least on my phone). Other than Yoga, which I don't muck with, they have a wide range of self paced/timed and structured workouts (which I don't do) and Follow-alongs (which I do...do, hehe). I like the people named Izzy and Jake. I recommend it! Keep up the self care. ❤

    Ooo also get some insoles for your shoes that are specific to plantar fasciitis. Game changer. I only walk Run when wearing them and they have helped immeasurably.

    I have plantar fasciitis as well. Roll your foot on a frozen water bottle and purchase a sleep sock that pulls your toes back toward your shin. Jt will help super stretch out the fascia. I haven't had a flare up in ages. Hopefully you won't either once this one calms down!

    Running makes me feel better than any other exercise I've ever tried. I have mental health issues and having that top of the world feeling is insanely amazing. I've been off running since February when I got injured. You've inspired me to get back on the horse!!
