looks like today's drama is touching the MMA Community. Street Beefs uploaded a co ed MMA fight. A woman from Korea fought a man in the cage. There has been lot of fallout over their decision but these are two consenting adults doing MMA. She looked great out there to me. I have four questions at the end, which I'd love to hear your answers. #mma #streetbeef

Buhurt Wear Gorget Wrong, You Could Die

We in buhurt armored combat, wear our gorget wrong. Neck protection like this is great to protect us from strikes, however a serious accident is just waiting to happen one day. We don't stab. but there are plenty of injuries from cross guards. This safety evaluation isn't too far off. #buhurt #armoredcombat #hema

There's no drama, it was a fairly well matched fight. People seem to be complaining about the e-celeb Jidoucheon
Nice to see you’re back at it! Hope everything is healed up well!
Thanks, I am about to start sparring again. Finally feel ready. It's weird, if I slip I can feel it but I don't feel as if it's a risk. Like, I have full strength and range of motion again. This was old footage though. From my lack of competition footage lately, I had to find something to upload 😆
@@BachataKnight ah understandable! Old footage or new; can’t go wrong with some good ol armored combat. Looking forward to seeing how things go once you’re back at it!
i noticed that you're training outside in nature, do you have an opinion on whether competing should be done indoors or outdoors? I've had knights not compete outside because they didn't want to get dirty or deal with the heat, I've also witnessed knights back out of fighting inside due to not wanting to fall on concrete. also, had both sides complain about shoe sole "fairness" on the different surfaces
I love outside more, just for being outside. I prefer grass. Good or bad weather doesn't matter to me. I've had plenty of fights in the rain. Although I do hate how the footing gets so slippery in the rain and mud. I also like to use it as an advantage against people who are struggling with slippery footing more than me lol. I have had one time when I sat out almost the whole day because it was 90⁰ in the sun. I've also had horrible days feeling too cold outside. On the other hand, plenty of indoor venues can be just as bad or worse with the heat. Indoor is also almost always better footing than outdoors at least. Even compared to grass. And I like how we can have the best of both worlds like at Carnage where it's inside and the footing is actually packed dirt. I do agree with people who don't like to fall on concrete, especially for the risk of head injuries. I threw a guy at the first arnold (no mats, just concrete) and he hit the concrete so hard with the back of his helmet. It was a bad experience. I will usually fight in or on whatever, but other than the actual head injury of concrete, I think some people just want things to be too perfect. I doubt in an actual skirmish in 1500 anyone had a choice, they just did it lol
No problem, anything men can do women can do better, that’s what I’ve been told my whole life
That's a great and motivational motto ❤️
Was that a blue-green hue from it?
Looks that way. I wish I thought to record it sooner, it was quite a sight to see
Beautiful! Nice capture!
I think this video is a sign I should get red armour.
I heard get drunk, don’t train, and be stupid… did I pass the class?
Yesss!! That's what too many people do lol The first Cincinnati event there was a guy who needed to drink to function. And didn't work out. However, somehow he wasn't too bad. The bar of competition back then was also much lower.
I did not realize buhurt didnt allow thrusting.
i think the name "buhurt" kinda means "booo!, hurt!" meaning they didnt like pain, thats probably why they wore those things.
Great vid. Usually these low view vids are not my tea but this time it is as i love history and especially military history from all times.
Thanks for watching and for your great comment 😀
Just go for thrusting attacks regular slashing won’t do much
True. But for buhurt, gotta find new non thrusting attacks.
Buhurt doesn’t allow thrusts
My brig has a tall collar, when my head was forced down when I was grappled, my throat was forced directly on the brig's collar plate, full weight of a guy shoving my neck down onto a 1mm plate. Had I decided to fight through the pain instead of drop and surrender I might have been in serious trouble. I was in terrible pain every time I swallowed or yawned for 2 weeks but now I'm better with no permanent injury. Invested in a better gorget to stop this from happening again.
Are you removing the throat plates from the brig? I haven't seen many brig's with throat protection. Who did you buy from?
OMG! I can totally picture how that can happen. Glad you recovered 100%.
This is my titanium brig from Arma Moskovia. It's just how it was made. I should show you the back of it. It's literally the bare minimum plating lol. I only wear this for sword duels. My melee brig has what you're talking about plus it even has curved collar bone plates.
The plates on the collar bone are sooooooooo important. I have a metal plate in screwed to my collar bone to prove it. Don't make my mistake. The gorgets in this video are great. Make sure it covers the neck and collar bones. There are some that only cover the neck. Those aren't good for buhurt. Great video my friend.
Great point! And thanks for sharing your experience for others to make educated choices. Glad you have recovered 🙏 and back at it !!
So why do most medieval combatants wear the gorget on top?
I think it's just because that's what the person who taught them, showed them what to do. It's just such common practice from seeing everyone else do it. But it does make it so much more easy to be able to just take that off and cool off between duels or melee rounds, than it is to have to remove half your armor then put it all back on again.
Yeah at the end of the day it's just a sport. I wear mine outside of my brig. It's very nice to vent between rounds. Most tournaments you fight multiple fights. Knowing how to stay fresh between rounds is part of the game for sure.
In history they didn't. It was very important to have your gorget under your breastplate and whatever else so that your neck is always protected.
@102ndsmirnov7 Nope. Looming at actual medieval armor and art, it's pretty clear that gorget are often worn on top. Breastplates even have stop ribs that rest under the gorget or before to stop the kind of thrust issue pointed to here. Other breastplates have locks to hold a bevor in place on tje outside, it's quite common. I can tell you, from 35 years of armored fighting...I've worn gorgets on top.amd under...getting hit on tje gorget week it's under sucks a lot more. I actually had my sternum separated by an SCA arrow that hit my bib gorget a few decades ago and that sucked. There are advantages both ways but hits on the gorget are a lot safer when it's on top.
Sounds like that injury is healing up nicely if you're coming out swinging!
Getting there. I ended up skipping the cage match over the weekend. It's like, I can do a lot of jumping around and footwork but I still can't bring my legs back together under tension without some pain. I feel like if I go down on my knees if my legs are too far apart, it's going to be a really bad time. Getting there, probably almost there.
Badass!
i just bought this helmet for cosplaying
It is a great looking helmet!
That's similar to the wooden arena I have for my team. Mine can be set up from 16x16 to 32x32 feet. I just used it for our cities duel tournament and good thing we did a test set up since apparently I left 2 posts in another town after an event and had to make more two days before the tournament.
Oh! Glad you were able to make the posts! Our teammate welded the metal. It's been a great list for how basic it is compared to some other list designs. I'm glad yours works just as well :)
I might have just gotten the worst injury in Buhurt history (broken tibia and severed every ligament in my left knee). It was my own fault for walking in the list just like we signed up for.
The way I see it is this: they joined up knowing what the sport entailed and were willing to accept the possibility of injuries that may occur within the realm of the sport. This is like Mohammed Ali suing Mike Tyson over a legal punch because he got a black eye. I think it would be reasonable to remove this person from the league, bar them from participating for a period of time and if it happens again, barring them permanently. This is extremely unsportsmanlike behavior. Now if he bit off the guy's ear with that axe, maybe he'd have a case...
It's crazy to do an obviously dumb, dangerous thing, then feel the need when you get hurt doing it. I had a buddy lose a chinstrap, get a broken nose, 20 stitches and a concussion. After a long attempt to glue his face together, he went to the hospital, 20k in bills. He never once thought about suing anyone, and feels the whole incident is his fault. For real though, to engage in a sport where it is a legal move in the rules to tie up your shield while someone bangs your ribs with a metal pole arm? Did you really not consider that you might get hurt? Honestly, I would be with you on a lifetime ban. How do you just not imagine injury? Sure, it sucks, and missing work would suck, but you know it's dangerous.
So one strike and kick em out, is that what you want to happen to you if the organization decides you’re the problem? Slippery slope and where do they stop, what/who else will be deemed unfit for the competition next?
I feel that's a pretty huge strike. Idk, you probably have, seen the guy who was intentionally kicking knees at IMCF? (If not I can make a vid.... actually I should anyway lol). He was served a 2 year ban. I was laughed at by a couple people for saying that a 2 year ban has never been issued before. They should let him back after one year under supervision and assuming he publicly had made an apology, etc. Long story. Well, apparently he was mocking the rules and had statements that there was no redemption for what he did. Yeah that guy should be banned for life too. If this lawsuit is such a high level where no one is even divulging information to me to help me make a video about it, it's pretty serious. I was told "no" point blank about even asking what weapon it was. I feel this is that level of ban, where you can not trust this person to participate in a sport where you know one day you could get pretty messed up, yet they are going to court about it. Same as I would never let that person order McDonald's coffee ever again who got the "caution hot contents" printed on every cup. Some people just should be expelled. I think extreme cases are pretty few and far between. And a potential lifetime ban is something that most of us would agree on 8 out of 10 if just asked on the spot. Those things we would all just think one strike is more than enough.
I would refuse to fight that person
That.... is a smart move 👍
if it was half of all the outlets probably lost a hot leg to the house i had that happen before but power company came and fixed it pretty quickly. Meter might have required 240 and since it was getting only 120 wasnt working at all or not correctly giving way lower readings. thats my guess at least
Ahhh!! Thanks for dropping the knowledge :) my company just must have took a lot longer to notice lmao
Are you planning to go to Pennsic this year?
Yes!! I actually just finally got a pickup truck again especially for Pennsic so I can get everything there in 1 trip 🤣. Are you going?

Weird no views yet. Sometimes I think sword content is generally not promoted.
Gotchu, also sick videos bro
"This is geometry or something"... prolly yes... donno why I had to laugh so much about that. But thx <3
LOL thanks, yeah I just talk sometimes how it looks like in my head, reminded me of high school geometry pictures 😆
wouldn't you want to guard at an upward angle so you have more leverage?
You definitely can. I tend to guard with the tip overlapping the outside of my shield to be stronger overall, like if you understand the concept of the strong and weak parts of your sword? But in general for this video, it's kinda mocking people who only just hold it right there for no reason other than that's what they saw someone else do. And trying to teach what it is supposed to be
I get zapped with regular burpees let alone with armor on
It's rough, that's for sure lol.
Super soaker shoots way harder... Ole pump and squirt
Yes! No comparison with these
I miss supersoakers
In iaido we teach this with Bokken and after 2 or 3 head strikes as their guard hits them because they don't go high enough they soon get he idea
Ha, that's a good way to learn a lesson 😉
It does help to learn basic swordsmanship, this is definitely not the SCA.
Definitely!! I think over the years sword and shield for buhurt has become much faster, but these SCA guys out here still hang with us and have insanely good defense
Half right LOL
Better than not at all right lol
Yeah getting points from blow through strikes is something I exploit against new fighters all the time. Also even some experienced fighters just let you get points off their elbows form keeping them pointing out while on guard in longsword
That's the best 😆 ❤️ I love getting those elbows and just take a step back. Now I have another point haha
Dang I think I’ve seen more people at a chuck E Cheese birthday party lol
I was just telling my wife this. Seems like all their friends are dead.
