I have two GH5’s, and one GH5 Mk2. These have never over heated and they have run up to 5 hours continuously at 4K 30fps both to Ninja’s and internally as H264, albeit indoors. I don’t expect the G9 II to overheat in the same conditions. I also have a GH6 which records 4K to my Ninja and 5.7K 30fps ProRes internally, of course there is no danger of over heating because of the fan but I have never even heard the fan turn on.

Even though I have a micro 4/3s cameras and lenses, I also have an S5 and have a few lenses for it. I just ordered an S5ii, mainly for the autofocus so I can create CZcams videos and not worry about the focus hunting, or breathing. Since I already have the glass, spending $1,200 for the body was not a bridge too far. I considered the G9ii and the GH7 also, but the full frame won out.

This is a kool audio kit that am thinking of getting for interviews how so ever here is a draw-back where you have to raise or lower the volume on the device instead of the receiver which should have had mute buttons as well so the guest don't play with the volume as all the audio mixes as one. Even if the receiver is a little bigger it should allow you to control each mic separately & lastly the lav mics should have been included even if it would cost a bit extra. P.s you forgot to TEST the Noise Cancellation.

Everyone is talking about exFAT (in isolation) but, given the "it's apple's way or the highway" nature apple devices I suspect it is far more likely to be an apple problem with the apple devices corrupting exFAT (specifically) formats. i'm guessing that there are millions of Mybook Duos out there happily using exFAT with other OSs. It's just with apple that the incompatibility shows up. It is interesting that someone else here has commented how their Windows PC identified the error and fixed it. This implies to me that Apple's inability (unwillingness?) to "play nice" with anything not proprietry is at the heart of this. So the moral of the story for me is..... Good video and very well presented. Well done for potentially saving others a lot of grief.

I'm researching spatial video now. Looks like Apple doesn't support a true Spatial experience via CZcams (yet) but Meta does. Are you shooting spatial yet? If so what are you using to edit it and what format are you exporting it in for CZcams? It seems seems to be the logical distribution platform for small creators like me especially since CZcams says a Vision Pro app is on its road map. Assuming formats play nice together, Acer's upcoming Spatial consumer camera looks like a cheap way to jump in for those of us that don't have a iPhone Pro/Max.

  • @jockslifeatliftvideoproduc8528

I would be curious to see a heat test done at more normal codecs. I want the G9ii mostly for wildlife photography but it can double as a wedding camera as well, thats where I'd likely be filming 4k 25fps in the longGOP codec and it may be in direct Australian sun. I'd love to see how it performance in that instance. The 6k open-gate is probably one of the more intensive codecs for the camera to process and I'm willing to bet most people would be simply shooting in 4k 16:9 or 17:9 potentially even in the longGOP compression. The reason I am saying this is because that would match much closer to the GH5 and we can really get an idea of it's apples to apples heat performance. The G9ii is more prone to overheat than the GH5 both without a fan because it is doing much more than the GH5 is. Not just in larger files sizes, resolutions but as its a 25mp sensor it has to work harder to downsample as well. As the G9ii is a photo focused camera and Lumix didn't put in a fan because thats what Photographers asked for it shouldn't be surprising that its at risk of overheating, that being said, a use case I can see myself using it for is as a c cam for weddings, to film a ceremony you need multiple cameras. EDIT - Side note: The flimsy piece of paper you held up is not the user manual that is a quick start guide or something along those lines and I am willing to bet there is a QR code somewhere on that sheet that takes you to the user manual. It's pretty common these days that the manual isn't included in paper with a product but rather a web address to it. Not great but also not just Panasonic doing this, its just standard practice. The User Manual is here help.na.panasonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/DCG9M2_DVQP3010ZA_ENG.pdf

It is completely natural that you look through a camera with your dominant eye. It is like asking a kid to throw you a ball, he will throw it with his dominant hand. Or kick a soccer ball with his dominant foot. I am left eye dominant while right handed which is to say wrong dominant eye. It makes shooting a rifle difficult because I should aim with my right eye but I can't think as well about the info coming in my right eye so I had to switch to shooting left handed. As a dart thrower my wrong dominant eye makes it very hard to throw a dart straight because I am watching my throw from a diagonal. When I have asked someone which is their dominant eye and they don't know, I ask which eye do they look through a camera with .. and there you have it. It is natural.

Definately not for the average filmmaker. the IR pollution doesn't seem to be an issue on my camera....I have been using it for weeks now with ND filters - some of the information mentioned on this video is totally incorrect from my experience. Built in Nd's and IbIs are amazing on this camera. It's the reason I won't buy the Venice but will buy the burano. High end Docos will use cameras like the burano, often handheld with Ibis and variable ND without changing iris. You need buttons to program for your own use or not assign them, they wont cause any disturbances if theyre not programmed. Auto focus is something most doco makers dont use as it will tend to ruin shots. The Burano works well for everything I want it to in my world and glad sony gave us a great gift! A smaller raw capable version would also be great. The highlight rolloff is similar to Alexa and heaps better than the fx3 on the highlights due to 16bit compressed raw recording. It's not until you use it that you realise how good it is as I'm also color grader and the Alexa is Definately the next step up. Never going back to black magic or fx6 unless I'm using a gimbal, and in most cases I'll probably use the Black magic pro 6k in raw. The Burano Doesn't overheat after using it all day in the sun and sometimes at 37 degrees Celsius. It's basically the only camera that uses ibis on pl lenses and has a nice hand held feel on the final shots for long form doco making, I've also used it hand held 8 hour a day. Many of the comments made here just have no basis in doco makimg, but I can understand indi filmmaking is different. It is a heavy price tag......but no regrets in my field. In Australia, as far as I know the cameras were placed on hold for a month before they were released because of an alleged recall, might have been an ir fix. Also note that full frame 4k with fast readout is coming in the next firmware. So Im pretty sure the model you have is an earlier firmware. I wont use the cam much is 8k due to a lack of 50p, but in 6k, ive seen some awesome results which were unattainable in the lighting conditions and formats on other sony cameras. I was really suprised by the lattitude and how far I can push the footage in post.

I don't think he's selling himself short when he says 'what do I know, I'm just a youtber'. Yes he's being super humble ( we all know he's great at what he does and he's very knowledgeable about cameras), but it's a very important disclaimer for a lot people. Gerald is a full-time youtuber and that's very different from say a freelance filmmaker. Also he tends to nitpick on very small things and get annoyed by things that aren't really that important and can be worked around easily. Things that a lot of filmmakers wouldn't mind at all once they just gave it a try. When I started out watching his videos, I pretty much took everything he said as gospel because he sounds so knowledgeable about what he talks about, but once I came into contact with some of the things he would rip apart about cameras, rolling shutter, chromatic abberation, lenses not being all the way sharp, I realized that all of these things were really not that bad and barely noticeable to the most trained eye, let alone the average viewer. Auto focus and IBIS, that are amzaing in the cameras he uses, don't even matter if you prefer to use manual. Filmmakers are trying to tell stories (in whatever capacity they can) and Gerald is trying to break down every piece of gear to the nearest decimal point because those are the kind of in depth videos he likes to make. Many pieces of gear have huge caveats but also huge upsides (like price), and he acknowledges that, but some of the things that bother a youtber wouldn't matter to a filmmaker at all. He says countless times that he's never actually going to take any of this gear outside of his studio and actually make something with it. That's a huge reason to take what he says with a grain of salt and that's why the disclaimer is so important. At least to me. On the other hand, the kinds of videos he makes are great for cutting through the bullshit that these camera companies try to wrap around their cameras and justify the stupid prices. This Burano review is a great review of that. An average camera (compared to other cinema cameras) being sold for 25k as if it's some groundbreaking camera. That's what I love about Gerald's videos.

Nah man I gotta disagree. It’s a photo focused camera, there’s a lot of photographers don’t want the fans as they pose a potential risk in its weather sealing and construction. It’s better the camera can offer features above its weight class so it can be used as a b cam or a c cam or back up camera than it simply being unable to. If the heat is such an issue and you think the camera shouldn’t offer features above and beyond the camera is designed for then just limit it yourself… shoot in the lower video specs that you think it should be limited to. They’re tools designed for specific jobs. It fills its job and more and as a result it pushes its thermal capacity. Get the tool that works for your use cases, it was fairly obvious the thermal capacity of the camera was being pushed due to the lack of a fan.
