      @SaccoBelmonte Před 5 měsíci

      @ades Ok. Hmm.. I think they probably feel like 4x80 but with the extra wizard "whip" because the wheelbase is a bit longer and having the pivot wheel in the middle plus the short wheel separation so transitions happen more easily? I guess even more nimble than a 4x80 setup. Closer to ice. I'll get some of them later on when I can justify them because I'm pretty happy with 4x80 as a good all-round setup + the drawers of 80mm that I have to go through. 🤣 I also have a set of rockin 580 and the whip is definitely real.

  • @SaccoBelmonte
    @SaccoBelmonte Před 6 měsíci

    I go from wheels to ice often. I got some sick looking rockin 5x80 frames and I like them but any frame that makes the front/back wheels to stick out are gonna feel slow and mess with your spacing when you crossover, I already took a slam doing the crazy. I would say long frames are only useful for toe/heel presses, which I don't love at all how they look so I don't perform them (gotta be the ugliest move in the history of inline skates, to me anyway). I'm gonna keep the frames because I do like the feeling but my conclusion is that 4x80 banana rocker is by far my favorite setup, it is almost 1 to 1 to ice blades.

    After watching this for the millionth time I see something I need to keep in mind. It is sort of a pump. You turn into almost a stop and unweight to pump through this transition. I am going to try this on ice with hockey skates. As I have learned to skate this winter I have been watching more wizard tutorials learning stuff that will transition to inline this summer. The rocker on hockey skates is perfect for this stuff. It has been super fun.

I stopped strength training when COVID hit, and right around turning 30 this year, I gave myself a major strain in my right lat while doing a lion. Thanks a lot for the review! I wanted to buy them for slalom, but still unsure. I currently use FR freestyle frames (72/84) and enjoying how maneuverable they are, even compared to 4x80 frames. Doing flatland on the side with the regular arc frames made me fall in love with the longer wheel base and I wondered how arc cs with the biggest rockering option would do on cones. Do you think the three center wheels (68-76-68) have enough rocker to do slalom? (One footed spins around cones for example) PS. The frames look insanely good on FRs!

    • @CityBlades
      @CityBlades Před 7 měsíci

      Probably, certainly when they’re broken in a bit… but for slalom I’d be concerned about the length knocking over cones and such. I guess on the normal arcs if you find yourself saying “if this was just a little shorter and a little more maneuverable it’d be perfect” the CS would do the job

    Great breakdown. I appreciate the perspective as I get further into testing these. I'm gonna try some of the configurations you mentioned here and see what my experience with them is. I definitely appreciate when a frame provides so many options because of the nature of the "one size fits all" mentality that is pretty well built into any scene that uses a modular mount skate. I'll really be interested to know if we come to similar conclusions being we wear the same size skate.

Exclamation mark and everything. I thought the CS was meant to be for small sizes, Arc for middle, ES for the bigfoot skaters?

    • @CityBlades
      @CityBlades Před 7 měsíci

      Well I’m sure his recommendation was a function of type of skating as much as foot size… 76’s and 84’s will be better for skating around than the 68/76 on the CS for sure

      @Johro66 Před 7 měsíci

      @@CityBlades I'd rather 80's than 84's.. I'm thinking smaller is better because I've had my legs injured many years ago, and I tend to supinate, and the bigger the wheels and the higher the stance, the worse my supination, I find I'm most stable as regards pronation/supination on my smaller wheel setups. There's a lot to be said for a low ride height.

    I would agree that for anyone who skates a lot, experimenting with different frame sizes but keeping your wheel size the same is worthwhile. I flip between a 4x84mm and 4x90mm frame and have used all sorts of wheels on them, usually one size down from the max size so 80mm on the 84’s and 84mm on the 90s.

    • @paul_k_7351

    I love to see you making good use of all the little features on the Arc frames that were discussed and debated for so long. You’ve even found some tweaks that I don’t think were even part of the design scope (using wheel diameter and axle to fine-tune the front rocker), which is really exciting to see! More than any other frame, people really seem to be making the CS their own. I was also glad to see that you found some of your assumptions about five wheel frames challenged as you tested these. I’ve only skated the CS in its default rocker configuration with the frame dead-center, but I’ve skated it a lot. I haven’t had that tiny triskate + trick wheel feeling and my wheel wear is consistent with my other five wheel frames (most to least wear going from front to back). I’m sure that if I went to a stronger rocker I’d start to feel and see those things though.

    • @CityBlades
      @CityBlades Před 7 měsíci

      The interesting thing is with max rocker i still don’t FEEL like a 3+1+1 configuration, it seems very fluid from front to back to me… probably because of the length and small wheelbases… but when I look at the wheel wear it’s evident. Thanks for watching 🙂 always good to have your thoughts

    Maybe I missed your point but it sounds pretty narrow minded to me... Here's my pov: "invention" of Wizard frames and style changes the landscape of skating in a positive way. Before, 4x80 or triskates where basically forced on every ones feet, which is not ideal for many many skaters... Regardless of whether you like the aestetics and naming, I think what sounds restrictive, actually lead to more freedom and experimenting for a wide range of skaters... Leon spent a lot of his own money and time to create something to improve skating experience not knowing if anybody would buy it. Taking that risk is already enough to honor him by calling it wizard skating is what I think 😉 ...where is that animal called stunami from again? 😝

    • @CityBlades
      @CityBlades Před 7 měsíci

      Oh trust, I’d never try to belittle Leon’s contributions to skating. Those frames and intuition liners have been game changers across the industry. More a matter of… “wizard is a brand, leon has said he doesn’t want it to be called wizard skating… and if we’re taking tricks from other styles we should probably credit those styles by using their names for stuff”

    Yeah, it’s problematic. I mean, I get that people use “mushroom blading” to describe the blend of “wizard” and aggressive skating, since Joey and Todd really developed and pushed that style, on all sorts of setups, not necessarily with their own wheels. I also kind of like the idea of “flow skating,” the blend of urban skating, parkour and swivelling Shaun did (does?) so well. It’s a vague name, but that’s okay: I’d rather have big, fuzzy categories than very small and strict divisions. But well, it doesn’t matter what I like or want, does it? Language is defined by its users and if most people keep using “wizard skating” for what we know to _be_ wizard skating, that’ll be the name that sticks. Until someone invents a really cool alternative name for the style of _rollerblading_ we associate with Leon and his disciples. But I’ll just keep rolling and let other people do the thinking. 😇

      @@CityBlades hahahah I’m just joking. I asked myself many times question about wizard as a name/brand/discipline… It’s a brand for sure… but I just think about the mentality, the movements of the body, a new creative way to look at things… Leon came with the thing, he named the thing, and then came the brand… it’s strange sometimes to say “I’m going wizarding “ with everything except wizard brand things… the name’s totally associated with the brand… by that’s what we do🤷🏻‍♂️. An interesting subject is the trick names one. Something is taken from other disciplines, something’s not… some names are changed… I’m at a point I give zero fucks to names, I’m not crazy at naming things, I just wish it will not become an over complicated thing.

      @@marcograndotto6615 actually brand came first, and he’s said before he doesn’t want it called wizard skating, he likes “flow”. Also literally all the tricks already existed lol.

      @@CityBlades i think he started his way of skating in some 4x80 or slalom setup before the brand/frame, but did not remember the flow thing. Is that the reason for the Unwin’s “flow skate” ?

      @@marcograndotto6615 re: unwin… probably, but the 4x80 setup was more mushroom blading big wheels 1 era. The flatland style really started to come together with the “skate moves” series, at which point everyone was on wizard frames

    Hahaha. This is the biggest truth I’ve seen all week. I love the growth “Wizard” skating is experiencing, but most of the flatland things in it are newly stylized versions of basic figure skating moves, renamed. Which is awesome! But there are so many options on the market that make this type of skating efficiently executable. Just like you don’t need a specific figure skate to pull of the fundamental moves in figure skating, you don’t need the standard Wizard skate to pull off flatland skating. And can we please pay some homage to where the moves came from? It’s not appropriate to appropriate.

      I see basic slalom moves too, I feel like acknowledging that would open the door to more of them

    I go the 'wrong' way until the the 45/power strap area and then I run runners lacing twice drom the boot to cuff area.
