Can you please do a video, or tell me where to find it ,on when to use pre emergents in South Australia on kikuyu.I overseed with rye in autumn. I believe pre emergents stop all seed from growing, so how long do I need to give it after seeding to put down PEs? Do PEs affect kikuyu growing back after a spring Reno? If so, how long do I have to wait to put down a PE after the spring Reno?What is the best time to put down PGRs too. A lot here, but a response for a novice would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a place to send off sample of our soils to be tested etc? That would be a great insight into how to take our lawns to the next level.

    Hey Emma, not sure if you have this issue and can do a vid on it but I have Wintergreen Couch, which grows really well except in a few location around the house where it is shaded out by the roof line during winter, gets to summer and the warmer months and just as it starts to fill in the shade returns any advice on what I can do, other than using concrete, may be laying some T31 in these areas hoping it will hang on better through winter and will blend with the couch or is there other something else you might suggest? Keep the great content coming.

    I like the blue couch content. It was really good to see you working with what you had rather than just ripping it up and putting brand new turf in. I've got blue couch and no one else really mentions it. I love mine, so soft and it stripes up a treat this time of year now that i'm mowing a bit higher. Maybe it's just a Queensland thing. Hey there 👋🏼 Thanks for watching! I applied Lime at spring renovation but you can also apply now. There’s usually a set amount that is recommended depending on what your pH is. Mine actually needs re-testing so I’ll do that again in August. Spring is usually the best time as you can add amendments as part of your renovation and therefore get results in a short space of time and enjoy the benefits for the remainder of the season

    Thanks for the video. I am in Toowoomba and just 2 weeks ago did my second lawn aeration of the summer growing season. I am only a newbie to learning about lawn care after renovating and repairing and helping my Kikuyu lawn recover after it was about 70% destroyed by lawn army grub, black beetle and scarab beetle. I also just granular fertilized on the weekend just gone, and with perfect timing, I got it completed right before it rained (only about 5mm but it was still good timing). So this fertilizing and aeration should get the lawn through winter now. Also, just curious where you got the Billy Goat aerator from. My local hire shops here in Toowoomba only have the Blue Bird rotary aerators and they are very awkward to use. Would like to try out the Billy Goat if I could access one for a reasonable hire price.

  • @wilsonline90
    @wilsonline90 Před 5 měsíci

    you can even use the top material to sprig. If there's a bit of stem on it, it may root down. Just keep it damp. I did that with zoysia but only in a vase where it's easier to keep damp. But obviously, this can be done on a lawn. I have samples of Stadium, primo, laser and some other zoysias here. Stadium is very dark, but VERY prone to get fungus. A farmer told me it can't be N fertilized in the first season which is very weird to me. Lazer is very slow, but so pretty!!! Primo is a nice balance, not so fine as laser, but is dark and spread much faster and stays low under good sun and well, it will go up after a long time without mowing but only after a while. L1F/trinity is much faster to spread, but now as dark.

    • @lawncareaustralia8796
      @lawncareaustralia8796 Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah, I did end up planting some of the top stuff out in pots as a backup so we’ll see how that goes as well. I have read an article about Lazer and Primo. You’re right - it’s the colour and density that got me in!

    • @wilsonline90
      @wilsonline90 Před 5 měsíci

      @@lawncareaustralia8796 yeah, the color on primo is impressive! And it was the fastest to take the bucket haha. Actually, second place. L1F was a bit faster. But it does have that grayish that most zoysias have. Except by Stadium and Lazer. Stadium is darker, very dark stuff. But idk it grows taller and I just overfertilized it and got fungus. It didn't do good here. Lazer is insanely pretty and soft, but just as insanely slow. Very low thatch though. Now, the weird is that by the end of last year (our winter), Lazer had the same coverage and had much less thatch than all other cultivars. Just weird. But again, Primo is a very nice balance. And during the growing season, primo was the greenest. The guy that gave me those samples said primo is his favorite. Pretty much need a low mow with a reel mower to look good I guess. Stuff grows very short. All that said, I quit the idea of sprigging the side lawn with zoysia. That was the plan here. Instead I went with Platinun te paspalum from a single plug another friend send me. Crazy, but this stuff is reasonably shade tolerant in my experience. And grows so much faster. I still prefer the look of a fine bladed zoysia all day, but its just too slow. I will try it in the back though. If you have Seashore paspalum available, get some to try. Very interesting stuff. Fast and drought tolerant like bermuda, but actually has some shade tolerance. Haha. Front was plugged with T31 and shit is not shade tolerant at all! Not in my short experience lol and it looked terrible in the winter even though I'm in South Florida. We had a lot of overcast weather in this winter though. Stuff just needs light. Zoysia and paspalum had no issues.
