Played Jenny and Wini as a 2 handed first ever Carcosa playthrough and it was a riot of fun. Absolutely loved them both but Jenny with Adaptable is so strong, and big money with 2x Lvl 3 Cigarette Case is nutty strong. Really built around this and it did not disappoint, could go get 1-2 cards from pretty much my whole deck by mid scenario.
Guidance is a good target to make fast with parallel Roland
Mouse mask has been good with Luke, not only for the intellect but for willpower boosts as well. Agree even in 2 player and depending on when it is drawn, replenishing it can be challenging. I would give it +1
I've had this game on my wishlist for a long time now. I finally got it starting with the core set revised edition. These videos help out so much. Thanks for taking the time to help the new players learn. I'm a huge Love Craft fan so I'm already hooked on this game. Any recommendations on what campaign and investorgators to go for next. I'm looking at buying them by the box sets rather then individually. Thanks again and I hope you have a great day.
Welcome to the game! Glad to hear that you are finding the videos helpful. Buying the Investigator Expansions is a great way to try new investigators and build your card pool. Dunwich and Path to Carcosa are personal favourites. Some of my friends prefer The Forgotten Age. You can't really go wrong with any of them. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line at the email address in the video description. Good luck on your adventures!
Um...you look at an encounter card when you draw them lol...so it's used every encounter step lol..I mean really...do you call someone else out of game to look for you lol?
There is a difference between the terms 'looking at' and 'draw' in this game. See bullet points 2.13 and 2.14 on page 14 from the FAQ released on Feb. 1, 2024.
Your videos make my day!
Awww shucks!!
we love the kennedy dad!!!!!!!!!!
Holy moly when I looked at the chapters and realized yall only got through two cards 😂 I agree with many others that Veronica’s expertise has been a great addition. Every episode I learn something new from her.
Thank you so much, that's lovely to hear.
Veronica was a great addition to the team. Thanks for having her! Regarding Guardian, I think of myself as a guardian main and how boy has it been a long time since a box offered an excellent set for the class. What I wouldn't give for a good combat guardian and a set of cards for them that worked with their design. Anyway, thanks for the interesting commentary and insightful videos.
Thank you so much, that's lovely to hear.
Think you copied the timestamps from last video :)
Eyes of Vallusia can give Carolyn a weapon?
lol nope, not unless someone Teamwork’s it over to her. She can’t take Guardian above lvl 3
#JusticeForWilson
Eyes of Valusia absolutely can deal with Zamacona, just not starting from scratch. I don’t think this card should be thought of as your general use weapon for dealing with whatever enemies you draw, I think it makes more sense as a side carry/support tool that can help make regular enemies a little easier (either for your friends or whatever you’ve got in your other hand), that can transform into the kaiju killer when the big bad shows up later on. Which can be very handy when your regular enemy handler is prepared to deal with chunks of 2-4 health at a time, but the boss shows up suddenly with 10+hp and your enemy handler isn’t built for that much burst. I’m not saying this card is amazing, but I don’t think you recognized its proper home (aside from in Carson, which I totally agree with)
Yeah, seems like a pretty great way to deal with Zamacona, unless you draw him right after putting this thing out. It seems like a solves the "what to do with my free parley action?" problem with Alessandra. Small bonus charging up for big strikes on Zamacona or the big bad seems decent.
@@KrishnaRoskin to be real, you don’t include this as your method for dealing with Zamacona, but if you happen to have a few charges up already when he shows up, then it’ll do the job nicely
I’m coming late to this game. I find it a good solo game but it has a large learning curve. This video is the best I’ve found so far. One place that I’m having difficulties is when the enemy attacks me. Do I just lose the attack, can I commit cards to the attack before I pull from the chaos bag, or do I even pull from the chaos bag. Do you have that video? By the way I’m 66 years old and started to play as a brain activity. Now I’m hooked!
If an enemy attacks you, you simply take the damage and/or horror unless you have a way to react to the attack and cancel it (say with a Guardian card like Dodge from the Revised Core set) or you have a way to react and mitigate the damage/horror (like the Guardian card I've Had Worse, which is also in the Revised Core set). You don't draw from the chaos bag. The enemy simply deals damage/horror, then exhausts. Of course, it readies again during the next upkeep. Technically, damage/horror happens in two steps - first you assign it (placing damage/horror tokens next to your investigator card, allies or other assets with health or sanity), and then any damage or horror not prevented is applied (that is, placed on the card). If no damage/horror is placed on the card (because it has been prevented) no damage/horror is dealt. See page 7 of the Rules reference. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Looking forward to the return of Nate.
Flurry of Blows works well with Keen Eye.
Not sure I understand the comment about blessed blade - why are you saying when you miss you still get to do one damage? Even with weapon that does +1 damage (without saying 'if successful') we always played you only get the bonus damage if the attack is successful.
I think they are saying you only do one damage to your friend engaged with the enemy.
@@KrishnaRoskin Thanks, making sense now. Understand now the ‘if successful’ nuance.
Naaaaaaaate
So much sour grapes for Hand-Eye Coordination! I hope ya'll are going to make vinegar.
Thanks for quick upload as a pod. Love what you guys do but I rarely watch stuff on CZcams and enjoy the audio.
Hand-Eye Coordination certainly makes the hammer less clunky, you could use the saved action to get into position, like Shortcut, if you don't have acces to it. I'd pay 1xp for Shortcut
Hand eye coordination is clearly designed for a tool based flex deck, It's as interesting as you build the rest of your deck. Also it makes Tony Morgan even more disgusting than he already is. If the only thing you play is way over curve, melee fighter of course it's not interesting.
A card, a resource and an XP to make one action fast is underwhelming. Maybe the lady is an FFG employee, like Olive McBride. I suspect Chuck Fergus is also an employee.
Mattastrophic, it's Marion Cotillard
I am getting more a Cara Delevingne vibe. Is there a specific movie that I am missing?
From a game design perspective - at this point in the games lifespan if you have to think of a reason not to include a card in your deck then that should be rated a curse. At some point either you remove enough of the challenge from the game that it stops being interesting or you need to design the scenarios to be more difficult to compensate. With regards to "Hold Up" - there are two words on the card that completely change how you evaluate it - those words are "Trick" and "Parley". This card is bad if you play it outside of a trick deck or a parley deck, as it combos with cards like "Chuck Fergus", "Fine Clothes" & "Crafty". It also gets better if you have other cards that also trigger on succeeding by a certain threshold, which guardian does have some of.
Thank you for the reviews. A lot of cool ideas as always with you guys. I missed Nate here, but to be honest, I miss him much more for the latest Hemlock Vale videos. I was not very hyped for this box, but I'm going to grab a copy right after work. I need the Living Ink for my Lily deck, just for the martial arts theme
What's the reasoning behind the claim that Hold up needs to be a basic fight action? I was pretty sure that this is not the case. Not that it would make this card great or even good, but it does open some interesting combos. Particularly for rogues who can take this.
The designers issued a ruling on Hold Up to a player via email. I was able to track down the original question and answer on the Mythosbusters Discord server. I won't repeat the question, since it is quite long, but here is the answer: "When Hold Up states "perform a fight action against the chosen enemy," it means that you resolve a skill test using your combat value against the enemy's combat value, and if you succeed you don't deal damage but instead play the chosen Item. This process only costs you 1 action." The designers have a bad habit of issuing rulings by email that don't make it to the wider community. They did something similar to clarify Kate's ability. It took months before that ruling was included in an official FAQ. I assume the same will be true of the Hold Up ruling.
@@TheWhispererinDarkness Thanks for the detailed reply! This sucks though, not only makes the card basically unusable, but also goes directly against the flavor. I was sure the entire idea behind it was using your weapon to play a different asset instead of dealing damage.
Wolf mask is the strongest card in this set.
I agree that it's the strongest Guardian card in the set. As for the set as a whole, my money is currently on the Myconid.
Yeah I disagree, Wolf Mask is the strongest mask.
I love how the debate to have is about *which* mask, because of how strong they all are.
Whoa, I feel totally differently. Wolf Mask is definitely the best mask of the set. It makes 4 fist fighters extremely consistent. Even if you end up using it for just a fist boost, it can result in an unexpected courage per enemy fought. If you plan on using 1-2 attacks for most enemies, it's incredible. Just plays so well with Ruinic Axe with Hunter, so you get those engage triggers so easily. To expand on Ruinic Axe synergy, you can use wolf mask as a pseudo-charge counter on Ruinic Axe if you want to hit a +4 threshold on Hard mode token bags, but need to save a charge on Ruinic Axe for Damage/Hunter. It's just so powerful, tutored by backpack, which ultimately allows you to free up other icon cards for other fun guardian cards.
As someone who plays solo, the best mask at any given time is the one that rounds out my deck. I've tested Wolf Mask in some of my Guardian decks but ultimately cut it in favour of one of the others because it didn't provide the bonuses I needed. Wolf Mask is a great card. Definitely worthy of the unanimous Elder Sign rating. But it hasn't been the auto include I thought it would be in solo. .
FFG: "Here's a card to get clues." Matastrophic: "Why not Dynamite Blast?" 💣💥😅
Hold up is definitely one of the cards ever printed....can't believe what a big pile of shi*t is it, and how nobody said anything before printing such a bad card lmao
It's a bad card. It doesn't help that the wording is unclear. The designers have already issued a ruling re the fight action that will make it into an FAQ at some point. It's highly unlikely I'll play it regardless. Deck slots are precious, and I don't have time for that type of janky BS.
It's not. It's also not a great card but you have to evaluate it in the light of other cards that interact with the "Trick" trait and the "Parley" action. It's purposefully below curve to compensate for this.
I guess people will find ways to make Katana work by predicting the success by 2 with cards like Ancient Covenant. Be able to do 3 damage with just one action, without spending charge, is quite powerful.
Should the cleaning kit pictured be the level 3 version? 4 supplies & +2 to the test
Ignore that, I see that you are breaking from your normal of xp cards at the end. Should have watched the video in one go
Seriously! Get us a non-seeker researched card! A guardian weapon with some story behind it would be a solid candidate, and having a condition to research that’s something weird like katana’s perfect strike would be a sweet way to unlock the higher level
19:25 '''The elephant won't know what hit him'' brilliant, I cracked up so hard
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
RIP in peace Nate, this effect can cause the current agenda to advance :(
Cleaning kit has a couple of advantages over using extra ammunition. One of the less obvious is that because the ammo is not on the weapon card, you don't lose it if you swap out for a different hand slot card. So you don't feel so bad dropping that revolver to play your big gun. Another is that it combos with Emergency cache (3) so that that card can now also be used as ammunition. The Katana is designed for the science archetype. Which seems to be very specifically a seeker/guardian Archetype. Dr Charles West is the other half of this card, who gives you an additional hand slot for a tool asset and does an extra damage if you beat the test by a 1 or a 3. throw in steady handed and now you can shift your result up or down by one, and now you are doing at least 2 damage if you succeed from +0 to +4. You also heal a horror when you succeed by 2. Now the question you might ask is are you better off running something like the machete in the same deck, and I think the answer to that honestly is how important is that extra +1 to hit and how well are you able to take advantage of the extra attack. That might honestly make katana best for seekers who can take guardian cards who need the stat boost.
Nate noooooo... hope it's not permanent
I've been running a Blessed Blade Ancestral Token Mark Harrigan in Vale, it's been quite fun. The upfront 3 cost is nothing when you have the preludes
I finally received my copy of Vale on Monday, and I look forward to playing it. Seems we are a little behind the rest of the world here on the plateau.
@@TheWhispererinDarkness You'll enjoy it immensely! Just pack evasion and or combat :)
3:59 For those who don't know Return to Innsmouth Conspiracy is a fan made expansion, not an official product.
Ah, yes, I probably should have specified that, so thank you for pointing that out!
The podcast feed hasn't seen to have updated since Dec 31st? I use Pocket casts.
I will update it soon.
Thank you so much!
And imagine playing it on hard🥴
I don't think I ever played with vit but run for your life has one of my favourite art of the collection.
If the Desperate skills were designed today, they would have one icon and get three more if your sanity was three or less.
I don't think Key of Ys needs the Exceptional keyword from the Taboo list. These days, it seems overkill! 10xp is overkill for the effect and 5xp is no joke either.
My current collection is up to TCU and I'm playing a flex Carolyn deck with Meat Cleaver and Key of Ys in our blind TCU run. First time playing the Key and without taboo and I'm excited to see how it goes. The plan is to try to keep the Key in play with horror heal from upgraded Ancient Stone and The Star XVII. It sounds pretty wonky in theory and it's a lot of hoops to jump through but then again I can see why this card might have been too powerful in it's original state and sort of trivializes investigator's roles when everyone can get to 4's and 5's in any skill. Still, if you're relying on it to be good at what your investigator is supposed to do, it can turn bad pretty quickly with just one or two bad token pulls. All of a sudden you're Carolyn trying to hit a ghost with a cleaver at 3 or 4 fist.
I use a chance encounter to recur mysterious raven since survivors struggle with intellect
How did that work out for you?
@@TheWhispererinDarkness good.since i sacrifice it right away,it doesnt matter that it gets discarded end of turn
True Survivor is designed for Silas
An autofail across the board for Snare Trap just isn't the right assessment and it is rare you miss entirely with your discussions, usually someone has the right take. It's absolutely something that has really narrow uses, but characters like Parallel Ashcan (as you mentioned); Wendy and Rita all make really impressive use of this in some campaigns. Especially when you are replaying a campaign and have foreknowledge about scenarios. The definition of Blessed in your assessment system.
While I think every autofail is a challenge to build around it, I don't think their assessment is unfair. 2 resources and 2 xp is extremely high cost for its effect of locking an enemy already on the board for 2 rounds. Its cost is also painful in that none of the tri-class assets can pay for it. I don't even think they are fully correct in that it works for spawned enemies. The card is a bit too situational to be able to use effectively in a deck if you include it on a whim, which is primarily how they are rating. And they are presenting it mainly for new players to understand the cardpool better. I think it's a card that if you were forced to include, you can certainly build to have a 1 of, as a panic button against a strong hunter, or to let the fightwe have a full round of blasting that enemy the following round. Such niche cases you can spend an hour easily to analyse deeper, but for all intents and purposes, given the cost, xp, and effect, I don't disagree with them. And yes, I count parallel Ashcan Pete as already niche - not something new players would stumble upon. It's also very expensive to keep recurring.
