The Traditions .32 Caliber Crockett Percussion pistol
Today we take the Traditions Crockett Pistol out to the range and put a few rounds through it.
It appears as though Traditions discontinued this model some years ago, which is kind of a shame, because it is a very nice looking and handling pistol.
My example wasn't showing particularly good accuracy this day, but I think if I play around with the load a little bit I can probably improve on that.

Cast Lead Bullets in the M1 Garand? Absolutely!

    The company anticipates you to cut a loading grove in the frame for 22lr. But I guess 22 short is a good save for not having/wanting to do that step. Just like when sighting my 1851 in. I made the sighting groove on the hammer wider with a triangle file. And you can use it to get closer to point of aim to a limited result. Not something a lot of people would do themselves but if your into black powder your kinda your own gunsmith to a point on them to keep them affordable.

    I have a brass frame engraved Navy 1851 that was made by PR in Italy and imported by FIE. I bought it new for about $50 in the early 1980's. I've shot it a few times but the spent caps kept falling in front of the hammer and frame which would sometime jam. If I'm not mistaken I believe they use a smaller cap than what I had for my muzzleloader rifles. I ain't fooled with it much since then.

    • @johnzx6r
      @johnzx6r Před měsícem

      Most of the older revolvers seem to work best with CCI #10 caps, which are impossible to find right now. I've got a couple of the FIE imports, and while still fun to shoot, they are not as nicely made as the newer production revolvers. Even the new ones can suffer from the cap jamming you experienced, though.

      Haven't chronographed this, but based on other revolvers with longer barrels, I'm guessing the velocity out of this is probably about 800 fps or thereabouts, so the fpe with a typical 65 grain round ball would be about 95 - 100 ft lbs of energy. Not much.

Then I put 2 2x4s together and to my surprise it penetrated through both. My 38 special cowboy load won't do that. This little snubby has lethal power. • @johnzx6r
      @johnzx6r Před měsícem

      The mainspring on an 1858 can be tricky to get back into place. The way I do it is I seat the lower end of the spring into the cutout in the frame first. then I take a small screwdriver handle or punch handle - something roughly the diameter of a AA battery - and place it between the spring and the frontrstap of the revolver, at about the halfway part of the spring. What you want to do is bend the top part of the spring to fit under the hammer, while keeping the rest of the spring in place. So you will be kind of bending the top part of the spring only around the screwdriver handle. I hope you can picture what I am trying to describe. If you just wedge a small screwdriver handle between the spring and the frontstrap I think you will get the idea of what I am trying to explain and you will be able to see what you need to do to seat the spring. Hope this helps - John
