Sometimes, the things the early gunfighter are harder than they look. JWH's card shooting or Hickok's 100 yard shot with a Navy Colt these remain true tests of skill for people who read history and seek to emulate their feats. Good Video!

I appreciate you honoring my great great great great grandfather both you and Captain ball fanatic, however I would appreciate it if y'all don't overdo it with him he was an outlaw after all he was a very little Gunslinger and he was a man killer

I shared J-Stones original video with a couple friends who are interested in this challenge. I believe J-Stone said he will start this next Spring. Either way, I look at this as a new aspect to shooting practice with percussion pistols.

It's something to do that is a little different. Even though the range is close it is a little more difficult than you might think - though part of that probably comes down to "performance anxiety", especially when you have a camera rolling!

I'd say that you did very good!
Most replicas aren't known for pinpoint accuracy and usually tend to have larger groups. You also mentioned that you had to aim a little off to hit the card.

Yeah, this one shot a little high and left at that distance. I didn't mention it in the video (I didn't want it to sound like I was making excuses!), but that day was the first time I had used that particular revolver. I've shot 12 rounds total through that revolver - 6 off-camera to see where it was hitting, and the 6 you saw in the video.

I believe that Hardin was a naturally gifted shot. He was a heavy drinker and rarely 'practiced' he also did not favor one gun over another .. he pretty much shot anything well. His book is a hoot... he excuses every killing as justified. probly a lot of em were but...there is no doubt that the guy had a temper.

I believe that Wild Bill Hickok said of Hardin "At face value his killings seem to be self defense, but I have never met anybody that needed to use self defense quite so much."

If you read his book it is apparent that he was above average in intelligence. He did actually get a law degree while in prison. His book is pretty much him singing his own praises but then so was Wyatt earp[s.. it does have some good insights on the times tho. What life was like back then.@@johnzx6r

From what I understand, Hickok and Hardin seemed to have a mutual respect/fear/admiration for each other. Certainly wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of either of them.
