Saddlemen Road Sofa Review for your Harley Davidson | Road Glide
In this video, I provide you with my Saddlemen Road Sofa Review for your Harley Davidson after having ridden with the Road Sofa for 1,300 miles over 4 days. The Saddlemen Road Sofa for your Harley Davidson touring motorcycle is the the Ultimate Touring Seat in the Saddlemen Seat Line up. This was the first road trip that I have taken with the Saddlemen Road Sofa on the Harley Davidson Road Glide Special. We road on the highways, backroads, off road, heat, and the rain. Watch the full video to get all the details and my experience with the Saddlemen Road Sofa on the Harley Davidson Road Glide after 1,300 miles. @saddlemenusa@GatewayHarleyDavidsonStLouis
GELcore Technology Explained
Shock and Vibration are the real world forces acting on your body that cause rider discomfort and fatigue. Take a moment and think about your last ride and ask yourself - Are rough roads and constant vibration cheating me out of the ride I deserve? If the answer is yes, you owe it to yourself to read on and learn more about what GELcore Technology can do for you.
Newton’s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Understanding the forces acting on your body while riding is critical to understanding why homogenous polyurethane foam seats developed in the late 1940’s and probably on your motorcycle right now are preventing the extended ride times you desire. Saddlemen® uses science to change everything by offering a complete line of seats featuring our unique manufacturing process known as GELcore Technology.
GELcore is engineered to dampen, divert, and deflect energy through a mechanical process resulting in a smooth, therapeutic ride.
Our technique combines a specifically formulated viscoelastic polymer also known as SaddleGEL with the latest in co-molding comfort technology to reduce engine vibration transmitted to your body by up to 50%, and reduce direct impact forces by up to 92%.
Saddlemen® invented GELcore Technology and today we are widely recognized as the industry leader, selling more gel seats than any other seat manufacture. However when it comes to the benefits of gel don’t take our word for it.
NASA uses gel to protect sensitive camera equipment on the Space Shuttle Discovery as it pierces the Earth’s atmosphere at 17,000 mph. NASA also uses gel to keep the International Space Station in orbit, gel is currently used in the medical industry for Wheelchairs and Hospital beds to promote blood flow, and major league baseball mitt manufactures utilize this cutting edge material to dampen the impact of a 100mph fast ball.
Instead of relying on foam cushions or air bladders that may impose improper contours, a riding saddle with GELcore Technology provides a topographically neutral suspension that will conform to the shape of the person who sits in it. Using pressure-mapping technology, we experimented with different tensions across the backrests and seats, fine-tuning our designs to produce the desirable distribution patterns: peak pressure zones under the ischia, with wide distribution of lower values along the thighs and across the back, avoiding the spine and the area behind the knees.
Seats with only foam padding do not necessarily provide comfort, because a too-soft seat can put pressure on the gluteus maximus muscles at the sides of the buttocks as well as on the heads of the femur bones and the sciatic nerves, resulting in the kind of discomfort experienced when sitting in a sling-type playground swing or a director’s chair.
GELcore Technology is a scientific approach to minimize circulation-restricting pressure with just the right combination of material layers, by curving the ProFoam structure away from pressure-sensitive areas of the body and cushioning it with ComfortFoam while dampening shock and vibration with SaddleGEL. Co-Molding the materials with this technique is what makes Saddlemen®’s GELcore Technology far superior to the homogenous polyurethane foam seat that came stock on your motorcycle.

Seats are such a personal opinion. Apparently what works well for one, not so much for the another. My opinion of my road sofa after 6k miles is not so good. I thought it was pretty hard for touring. It’s on my Road King. Now I have a RG and went with different seat. My Saddlemen is perfectly fine for around town. Nice video though. As always, pretty thorough review.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree with your comment...seats are very personal preference...as such I did state in the video...don't buy based upon my experience...test one out before buying at a Saddlemen seat dealer. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Not to knock you down or your video. But if you want to build a house , buy saddleman. Brick by brick. There’s a reason why you find them a lot on the resell on Facebook marketplace, eBay, etc….break in is require. But in all honesty. It’s to be expected with most aftermarket seats. It’s all subjective. Only cause your buddy as one. It doesn’t mean it’s for you. 🫵🏽
Thanks for watching and commenting. As I noted in the video, don't buy one based upon my experience...go to a Saddlemen dealer and test one out. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Great video, shop quoted 4 hours or $700 in Australia, with your great video got it done in 2.5, the trimmer wire was the most challenging part but i found running from the instrument cluster to the hole where the clutch clamps and then feeding another wire from the handlebar end to the same clutch hole and taping them together made it easier then the rest was a walk in the park, appreciate the video and time to do it, thank you 👍

Is this standard reach or extended reach I watch so many videos on this seat and every body forgets to talk about this topic. I’m 5’10 and I don’t like setting up on the tank like a road king sits. I love the stock seat on my street glide sets u back further. Anyway was wondering if this is a standard reach do u sit more up on the tank. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I usually do mention that but I forgot to in this video. It is a standard reach. I'm 5'10" as well. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. Looks like a super comfy seat. Just slapped the step up seat on the fatboy. Cant wait to break it in.
I also have a couple of step ups and those are my daily seat on the RGS. 👍
How many inches higher is it over the OEM seat?
Thanks for watching and commenting. It will sit you about 1 inch or so higher than the stock seat. I believe I mentioned that in the video as well. For reference the seat featured in the video is the standard reach. 👊✌️👍
Thank you. This is a great and informative channel.

I’ve had a road sofa for one year and 15k miles. It’s like riding on a brick. The stock seat is so much better. I think Saddleman says it takes thousands of miles to “break in” because they know it might be a couple years for most riders to hit that many miles and they won’t complain about it being so uncomfortable. Trust me - get a Road Zeppelin. Biggest waste of money I’ve ever spent on my bike buying the road sofa.
Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective on the topic. Seats are definitely a personal feel situation. As I mentioned in the video...go try one out before you buy. They work very well for me and have been riding only on Saddlemen seats for 4 years now. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👍👊✌️
Ya… I’ve had my road sofa 5 years and it’s still hard as a rock… trying to find a seat is a real hard thing to do… nobody in my area has “test” seats to try out… so whatever you order you are stuck with. So unless you are a millionaire good luck finding something you actually like!

@@marke7445 I’m not saying HDVibe does this but I am convinced most motorcycle CZcamsrs repeat the lie about break in because they are given a $900 brick and feel they have to say that.
@JA-zh5xi As I stated...don't only go by what I say...test them at a Saddlemen dealer and try them out before you order. As I also noted, they are firmer that other seats and way firmer than a stock seat. 👊✌️👍
Looks like a super comfy seat. Just slapped the step up seat on the fatboy. Cant wait to break it in.

It cost too much $$$ to drop my motorcycle and that is exactly why I’m not going to do those type of “low speed drills”!
I agree with the previous user the install instructions kind of suck and honestly, as much as they put into it, they should put some sort of bracket or keyway or an alignment tool to figure out the adjustment much easier than just putting it in putting it all back together and then testing it out because it’s terrible to adjust them after everything is installed
Thanks for watching and commenting. Your point is well taken and that is the reason I out out these type of how to videos. As you may have seen, I covered getting the alignment correct in the video. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👍👊✌️

This method did not work for my 2023 Road Glide. Do you have any other suggestions?
It will work on touring bikes up to 2023. The process for the 2024s is slightly different. If you go to the full-length video, you can see the entire process. You need to do the steps quickly.
@@HDVIBEon the previous video he left out having to press the left turn signal buttons. I found another video from another account how to recover the PIN and how to bypass the key fob.

I have a RGS and looking for guards for my extended bags. Not having much luck on the net
My guess is if they are 5 inch stretched bags, you may not find guards that will extend that much. The CVO style stretched bags are about a 4 inch stretch in the back and these saddlebag guards to protect them. I have dropped the bike doing slow speed maneuvers and bags never hit the ground. The guards did their job. 👍👊✌️
@@HDVIBE I have a 120th anniversary RGS. Not sure of the measurement process
@WrongDuWin These will work. Basically the same bag that is on the CVO in this video.
Hi ... I am thinking of a new roadking for myself. like your videos and keep up the good work. question for you...is it better to get the stage 3 or 4 kit done by the dealer befor picking up the bike or after. I will have to travel about 450 miles to get home from said dealer as I live that far from my dealer...thanks Craig Davison from rudall south australia
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'd say if you ate for sure going to do the upgrade, then it would be logical to have the dealer do the upgrade before you pick it up. At least in the US, if the dealer does the work at that time, then that work is also covered under the 2 year warranty. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. Thanks, allready a subscriber, was just wanting to know if it's safe to do that many miles in a new motor for break in period....
@craigvegie1970 It should not be a problem. You just need to keep it under 3,000 rpms and vary speed during the first 500 mile break in period.
Awesome video, very helpful information. So how do you wire in the quick disconnect from Saddlemen? Thank You 😊
Thanks for watching and commenting. Wiring up the quick disconnect for the heated seat is not difficult....unfortunately I don't have a video showing it but there are some others that have done so. I think 2 lane life did one a few years ago. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. I have recently purchased a Saddleman Road Sofa Carbon fiber with silver stitching and love it. Replacing the stock seat for rider and passenger comfort was necessary. I considered others such as Mustang, Corbin etc. and was not happy with the styling and reviews from the competitors seats. The fit, finish and construction of the Saddleman is superior to the others. I just returned home from a week of riding the coastline and wasn’t sore at all. The blend of the gel and foam works very well. The seat height did raise me up about an inch from the stock seat though. I would recommend this seat over the others all day long.
Thanks Gary for watching and commenting with your experience with the Road Sofa. I could not agree more with your comments. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. Road Glides should be 36psi (not 38.5) on front and 40psi on back
Thanks for watching and commenting. I generally follow HD recommendations of 36 to 38 in front and 38 to 40 in the rear. These PSI levels with stock Dunlop tires are the same across the Grand Touring models. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. I'm looking for a little more power on the top end on my 2023 Road Glide ST 117.Thanks for the information
Thanks for watching and commenting. Doing a Stage 2 on the 117 ST would be a great upgrade. If you stick with HD products, your only choice is the SE8 462 power cam as it's called. I've been thinking about doing that upgrade on my 2023 Street Glide ST as well. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. I purchased 2 of the Temu chin spoilers. I left one black and one I am going to paint Gunship Grey to match the bike. I have to say...I am so glad that you did this video. It's a shame that Harley charges $359.00 for this item. It should be a warning to all, what the markup is on items. I found these spoilers to be of great quality and for $37 but 10 of them, in the event something happens to it. Again, thanks for the video.

I have a 2023 Street Gide and I installed the oil cooler. Harley said their chin spoiler would not fit, so for the cost of this I figured I’d go for it. FITS LIKE A GLOVE. plus the paint looks good.
Thanks for sharing that info. I wasn't sure if it would work but now we know with certainty. ✌️👍👊
