This is the first Stephen kings book i read and i loved it!, i cant wait to read the dark tower. I was, indeed, very confused sometimes about some characters but it didn't stop me from feeling the story. Personally, i love that part where Cloto and Láquesis (idk what they're names are in English) have that long conversation with Ralph and Lois in the hospital

I need help. I love the concept of having read books. But because living in another culture and language, i have never read a book in my life. It is embarrassing and i want not only to change it, but to enjoy it. I love learning but the act of reading words bores me to death, and i dont want to avoid it with audiobooks. How should i approach the problem? What books do i start with? When, where, and how should i read?

Good review,. At your 30:31 mark you made a statement that as the story progresses people begin to reveal who they really are. We've always felt humans reveal their true selves in a crisis such as the one King created here. There is some sort of justice that the recorded message Harold left with the bomb so that his voice would be the last thing at least one of his victims would hear yet it is Nick that would be that victim.

If you like the character Father Calahan, his story arc is fleshed out and completed in the last 4 books of the Dark Tower series. He shows back up in Wolves of the Cala.

If you want to read hard book just get a textbook

Do you take recommendations? May i, recommend Robert Musil's : The Man Without Qualities...It belongs next to the towering classics of the 20th century...but seems to be often overlooked...if you are particularly courageous...read it in the original German "Der Mann Ohne Eigenschaften"..hehe!!

Blood Meridian is my favourite book, McCarthy's prose is so good it's unreal. The main challenge I think is the lack of punctuation/quotation marks but you adjust to that. The writing and the brutality in the story feels relentless, it's like a beautiful nightmare. I remember when I finished reading it literally felt like I was waking up, like I was surprised to remember that the normal world and other books existed.

As someone who keeps placing Moby Dick in a personal top 3 books ever read. I'm delighted to see more people being genuinely interested in it.

i'm about 350 pages into the brothers karamazov right now, and it's been a pretty fun and easy read so far but you have to pay very close attention during the first book or you won't have fun at all. as far as the references to russian culture are concerned, when it is important enough to the book dostoyevsky is considerate enough to go through the process of explaining the thing that is important to the story.

I can't recommend Moby Dick enough. I got into reading as a hobby last year and it was probably the 4th or 5th book I had read. It's absolutely amazing and the ending makes all the crazy pointless chapters about whaling and the "science" of whales worth it. Chapter 32: Cetology is kind of the first chapter that really makes people say "What am I reading?" and Chapter 54: The Town-Ho's Story cements in my mind that Herman Melville may have written a large chunk of Moby Dick with humor in mind.

Ok, I might have to come back to this one,😂 you said station eleven and I cringed so hard lol. If it's ANYTHING like the show, just no. I didn't think that show was anything like The Last of Us, which I absolutely loved. Just my opinion though.

It's very annoying to me that Stephen King decided to introduce critical characters from the Dark Tower series in such a bad and boring book.

I'd add Ulysses and Gravity's Rainbow to the list. Haven't read the latter yet but I hear it's a toughie

I've read The Count of Monte Cristo when I was around 15 years old and I still remember the story. It really is a good book. I'm 18 now btw.

This is so confusing; none of these books are difficult at all. They are all one step above entry-level literature.

i loved the ending so much. It gives a feeling of true uncertainty, which reflects the emotions of the characters.

house of leaves was so fun to read!! putting all the effort in was so good. it took me about a week start to finish but I read it for multiple hours at a time and it definitely made me feel uneasy. i personally liked a little life but I've heard very different opinions on it so I don't usually recommend it to people

As a person who has read Blood Meridian, here are my tips: The violence is indeed overwhelming. Often times there are pieces of literature and media in general that were controversial for the time and therefore hyped up to be the most agonizing thing you'll ever experience, whilst being pretty tame. Blood Meridian is an exception, certain scenes in the story will catch you off gaurd pretty badly. It is also a hard read for sure. I personally just tried to push through the difficult setbacks, and eventually I started noticing patterns within the text that indicate certain things (such as the absence of quotation marks). With that being said, I hope you're not too too worried because Blood Meridian is an unforgettable read. It truly changed my life and the way I view fiction.

A Little Life is definitely challenging in the way you think it is - it was so emotionally exhausting, on both ends of the spectrum. It’s a really incredible book but not for the faint of heart. I hope you enjoy it!

I tried Blood Meridian a few weeks ago and, while it was very well written and I did like it quite a bit, it was very hard to keep reading. It was hard, gritty, difficult to get through and very off-putting. All of that was very intentional, and it was actually impressive how it forced certain emotions on you, but it was a world I didn't want to go back to, and while that was the point, I don't think I'm at a point in my reading journey where I can afford losing interest in reading to that level as a new reader. I definitely plan on coming back to it at some point, though.

I'm reading The Brothers Karamazov in December with a group, House of Leaves I'd like to get to this year as well. I liked Moby Dick and Blood Meridian quite a bit. The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite single volume story. The Canterbury Tales I thought was just ok, hopefully you like it better.

The Brothers Karamazov is my favorite book! My recommendation for helping with names is to change them from Russian and Anglicize them. Russian names can be confusing and I recommend writing them down (if you want to memorize them). I highly recommend reading it! A practical reading tip I use is to keep a reading journal and write my thoughts, questions, and criticism down. I plan on reading Infinite Jest soon, so I'll be suffering with you! Moby Dick, Blood Merdian and The Count of Montecristo are all amazing for different reasons. Moby Dick will test your patience more than any; Blood Merdian is absolutely like nothing else, and disturbing as all heck; and The Count? Beyond classic, a page-turner, and not challenging at all compared to the others. You're going to love it! I hope 😂 Great list...I would add (if you can get passed certain modern day stigmas, for good reason), is Joseph Conrad's 'Nostromo' (everyone goes for Heart of Darkness, which is also phenomenal, but not as good). Nostromo is a masterpiece, and has the best writing of any book I've ever read. His understanding of the language is unparalleled, and is especially amazing when you consider he only heard English spoken when he was 17!

I am so happy to have found your channel! I started this journey. I have not read any Stephen King books before. Except the two previous books prior to this one. I have always wanted to be a part of a book club but there is none in my area, plus working as night shift nurse, and I am a slow reader makes it hard to be a part of one. Your channel is the closet "book club" feeling I have come across. Thank you. That was the largest book I have ever read. Nick was my favorite character. I thought Larry had the most growth development of the characters. I agreed when I thought the big moment, the hand of God exploding the nuke was quite a disappointment for me. I was hoping for the people to rally against Flagg. Overall, I love how he is able to make the characters feel like real people. The fear Stephen King was able to capture during the tunnel scene was amazing, i felt like that was when Larry realized he was able to be more than what he realizes. The book was huge, and I have not forgotten about that scene

The problem is that people just look at this book as a gimmick. Much like the house, it's deeper than it looks from the outside.

Moby Dick was the first classic I ever read. I read it when I was like 8. I constantly revisit it and am about to embark on my 4th rereading.

Personally I think the series is just a step up in quality the further in your go. Red Rising is okay, Golden Son is good, Morning Star is great and so on. Although I have had friends tell me golden son is their favorite in the original trilogy but I liked Morning Star the best.

The vampires in Salem's lot are what they're so desperately SUPPOSED to be, but in most cases are not - SCARY. They're your traditional vourdalacs that come at night after their loved ones and turn them into their own kind one by one.

There was a moment when Eddie says the correct Password to Shut Andy Down. Andy says something that almost mad me feel sorry for him. Kind of Like Legion from Mass Effect saying "Does this unit have a soul?" I loved Andy as a Villain and completely agree how unique his is. I just finished the book last night and can't wait to start Song Of Susanna.

Oh, so you bought that massive tome, huh? That's cute. Did you also get a forklift 🏗 to carry it around? Because the only thing thicker than that book is the layer of dust it's going to collect on your shelf. Let's be real, you'll spend more time posing with it for Instagram than actually reading it.
