Let’s power up the Boeing 747-8
Hello friends out there! How do you do?
We were fortunate the other day to pitch up at the aircraft and maintenance personnel were just about to power up our aircraft, a Boeing 747-8. As I had a trainee with me, I thought I’d take the opportunity to let him go through the procedure if establishing power on the aircraft which would involve starting the APU as there was no external power. Ordinarily, 99% of the time we get to the aircraft from flight dispatch and it is already powered up and ready for us - so this was a rare instance but valuable for training as it were😀
Hope you like it! Chi Di Gin! Later!✈️✈️✈️✈️

Aircraft ‘Plug type’ doors- B747 demonstration
zhlédnutí 2,5KPřed 14 dny
Hello again everyone and how do you do today. You may have heard the term ‘Plug type’ door in aviation or aircraft parlance. The design of aircraft passenger doors for pressurised aircraft are called ‘plug type’ because they have to come inwards and create a plug seal. The size is wider than the opening so it has to come inwards first and then plug the entrance/exit. At high altitude, it would ...
Boeing 747 Flight Management system (FMS) Tip
zhlédnutí 1KPřed 14 dny
Hello everyone and how do you do? Took 2 minutes in the B747-400 sim to show you this quick tip for FMS manipulation. Some airway segments or routes, require that a specific Mach number is maintained. This is done to maintain separation distances between aircraft. On the B747, the speed can be inserted manually on the VNAV page or indeed, speed intervention used to maintain the required Mach nu...

Hello everyone and how do you do? A couple of weeks ago, my friend Sam paid a visit to the Cathay Pacific flight training centre. He had the opportunity to have a go at Landing the Boeing 748-8 flight simulator device with me. This was how it went on that fun afternoon. He performed pretty well for a first timer on the B747. Take a watch and again- hope you like it. Chi Di Gin! Later✈️✈️✈️✈️
Aviation and Colour Deficiency: A Doctor answers
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed měsícem
Hello everyone and how do you do? A number of you have been asking me about colour deficiency and whether it would be a barrier to becoming a pilot. I asked an AME the question and this was his explanation. I hope it helps answer the very important question that is a big concern for some aspiring pilots/Air traffic controllers and other professions too. I wish you the best in your quest to be a...

Hello everyone and how do you do? This morning was lovely and I was working with two professional pilots one of who was under training to upgrade to First Officer on B747 from Second officer. Lawrence is an extremely talented operator and is handling the aircraft with ease. Chris was our safety pilot and played his role very well too. We arrived at the aircraft about half an hour early before o...
Boeing 747-8 ‘Superjet’ pilot actions for Fire
zhlédnutí 6KPřed měsícem
Hello everyone and how do you do? I hope you are all doing well. This quick clip shows the actions we take in the flight deck to tackle an engine fire on takeoff. The Fire in this instance occurs after the V1 speed where we must get airborne as trying to stop would not provide us with sufficient runway and we would overrun. The initial shutdown actions and discharge of the engine Fire extinguis...
Weather avoidance/Turbulence avoidance in flight

Hello everyone and how do you do? Recently, there has been a lot of talk on turbulent flights due to some incidents. Turbulence has always existed and in most cases was worse in earlier times of aviation with the absence of todays modern weather radar and forecasting advancements. This video talks about the pilot tools and strategies to avoid turbulence and of course to prepare for it. The most...

Hello everyone and how do you do? This short clip shows you what is going on during the takeoff from lining up on the runway to the initial safety altitude of 400 feet. From setting the thrust for takeoff to 400 feet takes about 90 seconds but it is a critical period where there is maximum concentration required from the pilots. We will be watching, listening, maintaining directional control, m...

Hello everyone and how do you do? In todays clip, I walk you through a typical preflight preparation as far as the pre-departure briefing, data entry and speed insertion into the FMS so we can safely liftoff and climb away. Boeing 747-8 -a chat about cabin altitude/Depressurisation

Hello and how do you do everyone? In this clip, I talk about depressurisation and why we need to put on our oxygen masks if there is a loss of cabin pressure. You listen to the airline safety video every time you fly and have heard it many times. The higher you climb, the air has less oxygen as it is thinner than at sea level. Aircraft structures are built to be pressurised so that they present...

Outstanding as always Capt Obet - sure appreciate the time and professionalism. Great checklist explanation - you stated certain items are where they are and why. Are those items verified to be in the correct position prior to engaging the battery (gear handle, flap, hyd pumps, etc)? For example, if the flap handle been inadvertently moved to 20 and Sys 4 Hyd left in Aux, would the flaps transition once batt switch was engaged or is that not possible until the APU is selected on? Verifying positions with the checklist after the battery was turned on left me curious. Thank you again for such amazing videos!!!
