    The company is backed by Volkswagen Group! And they do it for your safety! I guess you have heard, that they had problems with the recall of LG batteries. Well, some have said it's all about money and less about the safety of the drivers. Cars are limited to 80% state of charge to be safe, before it's becoming hot and car will burn down, when still connected to the charging station. Check your NHTSA news. Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, Audo e-tron. Contact your dealer or better: never buy a used car from that brands, sell your car back to your dealer. keep in mind to never by cars from companies that dont play the fair card with consumers and where money matters more.

      @EVswithKaz Před 10 dny

      @@EVswithKaz Nope. They have limited the charging capacity to 80% of the capacity for safety concerns! Afterwards the chemical process is burning down your car. see the NHTS documents. Same as Jaguar and GM (Bolt), which both have satisfied their customers. But Audi...a much different story.

    Thanks, Kaz! Personally, I'm okay with an 85% hard cap at busy, metro regions where the chargers aren't typically used for travel and there are numerous other charging options nearby. However, for busy travel chargers, I prefer an 85% "soft" cap, where after 85%, they start to charge a per-minute "parking fee" that discourages but doesn't outright prohibit charging past 85%.

    • @EVswithKaz

      That's a great idea, Eric! It'll be interesting to see what kind of conclusion EA comes to from this pilot program.

  • @user--PM
    @user--PM Před 11 dny

    imo instead of cutting folks off at 85%, just charge them more for continuing to charge past 80% (like if the normal price is 50c/kw, once you hit 80% it's now $1 per kw, want to amplify this further, make it $2 per kw once you get to 90% another idea, maybe a combination of per kw and per minute would help move things along, like 30c/kw and $1/minute on top of that. then people would move along much faster once they notice the vehicle slowing in charge rate. for those that get free charging, maybe they should revise the situation and say, free charging up to 80% soc and then you have to pay the going rate to continue charging. educating the public is also something that we dont have enough of, sometimes people dont think much of it, just refilling the tank, but unlike gasoline, pumping in the last 20% goes so much slower. charging availability is also an issue. if there was also nearby lvl 2 charging, folks could move from the dcfc into lvl 2 to top up the remainder if they really want to get to 100% soc idle fees are also a good thing, 10 mins of grace period is a lot of time, imo 5 mins is more than enough grace period, then charge them a per minute fee.

    • @EVswithKaz
      @EVswithKaz Před 11 dny

      Lots of great ideas there! I think the "free charging up to 80%" for those that have the new car deal makes a lot of sense. That'll get them in the habit of avoiding charging to 100.

  • @D0li0

  • @jamesengland7461

    Here's a few thoughts: * are these locations specially chosen because they have high congestion? *did EA make sure these locations are operating correctly? *is this policy 24/7, or during really slow hours can they lift this restriction? *do they plan to implement this everywhere, or just in other busy locations, and might they get remove this in the future when infrastructure is more widespread? *will these locations be clearly marked with this policy and on the charging apps? They're are already common issues with the apps not knowing if chargers are working or at full capacity. Sadly, the media and this week are biased against EVs will run with the headline, not the finer details. EA probably has hundreds of locations not affected by this. Oddly, it sounds like they're going to cut off charge at 85% so your car is, in fact, sitting there idle for ten minutes before you get back to move it.

    • @EVswithKaz
      @EVswithKaz Před 11 dny

      These are all great questions. The article does mention that the locations were chosen because of their "high utilization". Let's hope that the driver is told, a few times, that they need to move their car once it hits 85%. Otherwise, you're right, having a car sit there for 10 minutes kinda defeats the point.

    Many SUVs have become somewhat smaller over the last ten years, blurring the line between a hatchback and an SUV. Personally I prefer cars (and other tools) which focus intently on doing their job very well, instead of middle ground cars that try to do a little bit of everything. I drive a massive truck which I use to haul large, heavy items, and I look forward to getting my Aptera or another small EV should Aptera not get me a trike soon enough. I've always had a huge truck and a small efficiency car, so I think Ford's move into microEVs is a great thing and I hope they will make them very small and very affordable instead of trying to give them every bell and whistle just to seem silicone-corny. Silicorny?

  • @Lord_Mangoat
    @Lord_Mangoat Před 17 dny

    I prefer vehicles that make sense. Such as smaller compact ones for 1 driver for just to/from work/school. Wish that the small kei trucks were allowed in the US. More and more states are banning them without much of a valid reason. 1 being safety, but then they allow far more unsafe vehicles on the roads. Makes no sense. The few people I know with a big pickup truck rarely ever actually use the bed of the truck and when they do, typically it is for just a few small items that could easily fit into another kind of vehicle. EVs with smaller batteries just mean more stops to charge, but also quicker to full charge, when doing a trip. The Aptera is a dream vehicle that I'm hoping comes out. Have money down on one. The one I'm getting is the launch 400-mile range battery, but that is far more than I'll need. My daily work commute is only 4-5 minutes, depending on traffic and the 1 light I pass through. That battery is way more than I'll need, but I am hoping to travel once I do have it. I keep saying that once I get my Aptera I'll do a road trip with it.

    they are simply so far behind when compared to the European brands. the european cars don't do phantom braking, the windshield wipers work automatically, auto speed automatic speed based on permitted speed, without you having to do anything, and it works almost 100% etc. tesla has fallen behind. simply because they try to save money on different systems and only use the camera😞 my model 3 is just bad vs my id4

    Wouldn't it be sick if they had a blackout glass option, or no glass at all? Dont get it

      I’d get a no-glass option 👍
