    I think the “easyier” a sport is, the harder it is to win a medal. Most people that are in good health and not very old can run a hundred meters, so you’re basically competing to the whole world.

    tip for getting the sit to y spin ( 6:42 ) when you’re at home doing nothing just lay in your split and try to press your body to your front leg. (it’s very painful at first but eventually it will stop) you should also do the pike stretch. i love doing these stretches bc i can just watch youtube while doing them lol 😭 oh and you should do leg hold to sit to leg hold to sit off ice as much as possible! having a slight oversplit will help sm aswell, just put your foot up on something low to the ground. your sit is amazing i think you could get this spin someday!!

    As a show jumper for 5 years, horse show jumping is very hard to master and hard to begin with. You need a lot of core balance and strings but also ur let and armes while keeping your back strait. You are riding on a very heavy animal that has its own mind and can kill you within seconds of time. It’s also very likely you are going to fall of the horse and the horse runs over you. It happend to me once when I was jumping 1,6 meters and I broke both or my armes. It’s a dangerous sport and for me , as a horse rider, it’s a very entertaining a thrilling sport. ❤

    For the Olympics to thrive the IOC should want to maximise the countries competing and the number of events they compete in. The current method of ranking countries exclusively by gold medals discourages less wealthy countries from competing in a broad range of events. A common sense approach to ranking nations is to assign points to each medal - bronze = 1 point, silver = 2 points, and gold = 4 points. This will provide a much more representative ranking than gold only ranking.

    Regarding body image and my experiences growing up in the sport of figure skating: I will start off by prefacing that I am very tall for a figure skater at 5ft 11in and weigh around 150 pounds depending on the time of day and month. I consider myself a late bloomer not starting the body changes of puberty until I started middle school. I was very lucky throughout my experience that I never had a coach tell me that something was wrong with my body. However, I went through periods where I didn’t feel comfortable in my body due to how it looked or how I was performing. The growth spurts never severely affected my skating. During each one, I would simply be unsteady or shorter on rotation in jumps than normal for a couple months until I adjusted to the new height. My last growth spurt was at the age of 20 when I went from 5’8 to 5’11 and I was only unsteady on my doubles for 3 months before I felt normal again. The hip widening and boobs coming in was what really affected me body wise. My senior year of high school (age 17) is when my body really changed from a girl to a woman. I gained 10-15 pounds and went from a chest cup A to chest cup C. I kept my axel, double salchow and double toe. I could rotate double loops but couldn’t land them during this time. My timing on my double flip and double lutz I lost completely and had to relearn. However, by the time I started college, I got my timing back and was able to do all my double jumps again just fine. In terms of my general body insecurities as a figure skater. The biggest one has been being so tall . Being taller in the sport means having longer limbs, which is harder to control. It also means imperfections with extension, body line and rotation of jumps will also stand out that much more. I also have been self conscious about my curves and weight as I do consider myself more “busty” in the sport. There was even a time when I was so disgusted that I was in what is considered adult large or extra large size dresses, I would order dresses that were too small for me as I didn’t want to accept how big I got. However, once I realized, I was in larger sizes because of my height and not my weight, I realized it was fine and just a natural part of growing up. Overall, I learned to embrace my body in the sport. Part of my motivation for skating has now become learning how to use my body better. Being taller in the sport, I really work on making sure I have full extension and toe point of my body as I know that something as small as a landing position of a jump could look that much more impressive on someone like me with my height making my extension stand-out more. I now use my height as an advantage and use it as motivation to work on the little details in my skating. As long as you feel healthy and strong in your body, you are doing everything you need to do to be the best in your sport. Don’t change anything and appreciate all the great things your body can do like Cathy said. Even though I never had a coach tell me something is wrong with my body, I made a diet change at the beginning of 2024. I lost 5 pounds and I thought that would improve my skating as it would cause me to rotate faster. I ended up feeling awful and changed back immediately. I gained the 5 pounds back and feel much better. I accept that this height and weight is the healthiest for me and don’t change anything unless I want to try something new out. Being 28, I can honestly say that I am skating better now in my fully grown, tall, curvy, adult body than I ever did as a pre-pubescent teen. I am seen as a role model in my coaching team for what longevity in skating looks like. My coaches see me as athletic and embrace my height as beautiful in my skating and use it as the base in our work together to make my skating even better. For those experiencing body changes, it may be hard to do nothing about it and just ride it out, but I promise you that you will come out on the other side healthier, happier and stronger than ever before as long as you do what is healthy for your body regardless of what any coach says. Good luck everyone, you are all beautiful and strong just the way you are 💪😃❤️

    Regarding periods and my experiences growing up in the sport of figure skating: I have found that once I knew what to expect out of my skating during my periods, they became manageable: I didn’t get my 1st period until I was 15 (junior year of high school) . I was heavily training as a synchronized skater at the time, so I only got my period every 3 months or so as they were not on a normal cycle yet. With that, my period didn’t affect my skating in high school. Skating intercollegiate, I got super lucky timing wise and never got my period during a competition 🤷‍♀️. However, when I became an adult skater, it seemed I had my period every competition 😂 2020 Midwestern sectionals and 2021 Adult nationals were my first adult qualifying sectional and national competitions respectfully. I had my period for both of them and imploded both performances falling and/or popping multiple jumps both performances. I never competed on my period before, so I had no idea how to handle it. 2022 sectionals and nationals, I didn’t have my period for either competition. However, I did have my period for a non-qualifying competition that season. It was the first competition I skated clean on my period. After that, I knew that I could perform the same on my period as off my period and that was all the encouragement I needed going forward. Fast forward to 2024, I had my period for both sectionals and nationals. I skated a clean freeskate at sectionals not only on my period, but also a back strain and a stress reaction in my left leg that could have resulted in a fracture. For adult nationals this year, I got 2nd in masters emotional performance showcase after being up a majority of the night cramping so bad I wanted to cry. My biggest worry ended up being that I would bleed through my white dress. I was heaving pretty hard after I finished even putting my hands on my hips which I usually never do. I also ended up getting 5th in championship solo dance on my period. I hate tampons as well and always wear pads even when competing. Even though my flow is light to moderate depending on the day, I always wear full size maxi pads as I really don’t want to risk blood going through the pad and staining my dress. I never take pain medication for my periods no matter how bad the pain and do not take birth control as I want to be as natural as possible however, I had friends in the past that would bleed so much they would pass out or have pain so bad they couldn’t go to school, so I understand people who need to medically intervene to control their periods. Overall, I have learned over the years that with experience, I have learned what is normal for me and what I can handle during the time of the month. Listen to your body and remind yourself that no matter what “you are doing good work” even if you have to heavily modify due to being on your period. Good luck out there. You can do it 😃💪❤️

    Excellent video topic! I am so glad we got this gem of a video! I 100% agree and relate to everything that was said in this video! Being a middle school teacher, this is a topic I deal with a lot and am very passionate about. With that, I’ll split my comment into 2, one about my period thoughts as a figure skater growing up through the sport and the other one being about body image growing up in the sport of figure skating and my experiences

      @ashleygrazutis4203 Před 5 dny

      Finally to add on to this, I think topics like these are super important and not talked about enough and would support more videos like these being made, but again will admit that I say that with a big personal bias since topics like these I guide middle school girls through daily. Unfortunately, the culture of women in sports continues to be an uphill battle that needs to be fought with positive role models sharing their stories of strength and resilience.

    i think (boulder and lead) climbing is up there because it is either the only sport or one of the only sports (i can’t think of any others but maybe there are) where you can’t practice exactly what you’re going to do, and the set is a surprise every time. in team sports there are no surprises, you know exactly what you’re getting into, and with any kind of race you obviously know what to do, and a sport with a routine you’ve practiced it. i know the movements are very difficult and i’m not trying to discount the difficult of other sports at all i just think climbing is also VERY difficult. the route or problem is different every time and with bouldering you lose time as you try to look at it and read it and plan, and you never know what moves you’re going to encounter and what types of holds and with lead you get limited time to read the route but only 1 try in limited time. imo sport climbing should get more recognition because of the mental problem solving side of it on top of also having to train crazy hard movements and holds.

    • @srry4beingsad
      @srry4beingsad Před 5 dny

      @@riccardogusso Idk about that, there's plenty of niche sports in the olympics, far less popular than artistic skating. I guess in comparison to ice figure skating it has less financial support but its more popular on the warmer countries

    • @riccardogusso
      @riccardogusso Před 5 dny

      @@srry4beingsad surely it is, I'm Italian born and raised in Italy so yes there roller artistic skating is far more common than ice figure skating, thing is even in media there is little to no representation of it, if you ask a random Italian everyone know Carolina Costner as famous Italian ice figure skater, but none will point or name of a famous Italian roller artistic skater. There is also the fact (at least there) that there aren't much roller rink (skating clubs mainly use school's gym halls and similar) and the roller rink who are there doesn't feature public skating, differently from ice rinks (who in number are even fewer than roller rinks) who have that and ofc attract more public and recognition, towns in italy also do build temporary ice rinks during the winter holidays, artistic roller skating is surely practiced in italy and italy is also home of a lot of famous skating brands: Edea, Risport, Belati sport, Roll-Line, Komplex, Star Boiani. But there is no valorization of the discipline nor real media covering, so ofc i think all this influence and take the discipline back from enter the olympics...

    • @srry4beingsad
      @srry4beingsad Před 4 dny

      @@riccardogusso I get what you are saying, but most people can't name a single figure skater xD but that's no different with other sports in the Olympics. Some people will know some athletes from their country but not know a thing from the sports in itself. Like rowing, swimming, most people know michael Phelps but ask them for another olympian swimmer they will not know. Most sports get popular because of the Olympics. In Portugal there's 1 permanent ice rink. I don't think we even have a figure skating team, why would we, there's no ice in here. And that's the same for Brazil, Argentina, Chile, mexico, peru and most Latin countries, the countries that are located in the Mediterranean most don't have the figure skating but do have the artistic skating teams and training. Probably if you were to make percentages you would notice that the people who do artistic is about the same who do figure skating if you were to compare the warmer countries with the colder ones. Figure skating is treated the same as artistic is even in the countries were the practice is more "common", Loena Hendrix the Belgium skater talked about this same issue, belgium is a financially stable country yet she adressed that the sport doesn't get support, that she skates In hockey rinks and it's very hard to find professional training and hours, and the government doesn't fund the sport in general for tournaments nor competition, there's exceptions like Russia, canada and USA but most of the time the sport isn't even that popular nor supported, and the only reason you percieve it as more popular is in fact because its an Olympic Sport. I can guarantee you that if artistic skating made it to the summer Olympics it would be as big as Gymnastics ! I just kind of feel like they want to gatekeep the sport to this elite ice countries, since if you were to compare the countries who do have artistic skating as their main because its more accessible usually are poorer countries 🤔
