Hey man such a useful knowledge thanks for posting!! I am currently exploring Irys with provide pay once store permanent facility to its users and also it ensures strong provenance and permeance.
Thank you for a good video. Very informative and interesting. Linux is the future and will continue to gain market share. Windows "critical" security update from January 2024 still not installing😬. The future for Linux is so bright I have to wear shades. Have a great week.
I have been editing videos on Resolve and making thumbnails on Inkscape for my channel and they're working like charms. Planning on switching to when once Asahi Linux is ready enough! (I have an Apple Silicon machine)
I want to know : If I put it out the storage media from computer and save them in a cupboard without plug in the electricity, HOW MANY YEARS THE DATA STILL EXIST ON THE STORAGE ? I will surprised if the data still in exist permanently (lifetime). ...
I've been experimenting with changing over too. Testing my devel tools in a VM and Steam games under Linux. There's really nothing holding me back from switching to Linux.
Best photo editor for Linux? Ready....go...
I'm a BIG fan of Linux, so here's a LONG comment...😉 My brother visited the other day and he was shocked that I was running only Linux, no Windows PCs for about 2 years...not 2 weeks 😁 I use Shotcut and ComfyUI to make music videos & tutorial videos (FOSS). sudo apt install shotcut Gimp is not very good right now (IMHO), Krita is way better, it does raster and vector graphics at the same time and even AI image generation. Natron or Blender are both good for greenscreen/after-effects alternatives.(Blender is also used as a video editor too!) If you want to play windows games: Lutris (runs windows games 4% faster than Windows) if you want to make your own games: Godot (the game-engine you've been waiting for) And if you're into making your own music, Ardour is very much alive and well. You can edit and create PDF documents for free on LInux, no need for Adobe products. I make all my creative content for free (mainly because I'm poor), but also because I can. Linux! It is the way. *I don't work for any Linux distro provider, just a "consumer" Thanks Christopher for making these videos, hopefully my little Linux rant will bring more people here. Is anyone still reading this? Well done! check out my channel too! ❤&✌
Over 50 no wonder I have the treble up high
Blender is a great video editor also. It is strange to start with, but it does a very great job.
photopea is really web based photoshop the guy that created it reversed enganeered photosho
I won't use any software that has reverted to this ghastly rip-off 'subscription' model with no perpetual license alternative. I have no intention of constantly paying for ever for something that may go weeks or months without needing to be used.
Chris wants to date the leading ladies of the movie 🎥 scene 🍿
Chris wants to be a movie 🎥 star ⭐️
do you have a view on shotcut for editing? it's getting less crashy and more featured. I use the windows version but primarily because there is also a linux version should I need to abandon windows.
if I were to do this, there is a distribution called Elive which uses Enlightenment as a desktop environment. Its the most up to date 32 bit OS which is still supported I know today. Just got to BionicPUP 32, damn thats impressive. Wish I could use my oldest laptop - but its practically impossible to open and the CMOS battery is gone. But that performance is crazy!
It wouldn't be simple, but I think Blender could handle most of the video techniques demonstrated here. For free.
my m.2 is 1T 500gb 4.0 got lucky I bought the right thing x4 and it seems to work well. 69$ doubt the 2 T would have fit under my video card.Had to leave off armor cover.
Thank you very much for the information love your videos like always, how about high-res music what format is that that's very interesting you did not mention it I believe thanks again😊😊
one great thing is a cinema type hdd caddy as it can go in a server or computer but be easily docked and the dock and hdd fit in a pre made case
video about audio, with distortion on the audio is criminal!!
you can just write some scripts to get ffmpeg to convert every conceivable video format... thought that's an addional step, takes up time & storage
True. And it also degrades video quality! :) For some reason, nobody seems to care about generational losses in transcoding these days!
Astounding. What you do in 23 minutes winds up saving users days of spinning wheels, pulling out hair, and suffering bouts of sheer madness. Seriously.
Thanks for your support, most appreciated. :)
The language, the accent, the huge pauses between long sentences. Amazing content!
If you are bored, try compressing music with opus and lower the bitrate each time. Have fun and compare the results maybe with common codecs. I did that a few years ago and let's be honest - opus is very much the smart kid in school everyone ignores, but when tested in each quality segment it succeeds.
💜 helpful to explain why one DVD player would play a movie, & why another player would not. Also, the same thing with a CD made in another country. Thank you. 😁
This is due to region coding for DVDs, and is a rights-management issue that nothing to do with video formats, codecs and containers!
@ExplainingComputers ah . . . some of my players would play them . . . others would not. And still - others friend's players would work, & not work. Some of my friends had players from other countries, where the vids. & cds originated. 😁
TalkTyper has serious beef with that fox
💜
For modern video, use either OGG Vorbis (not Opus), which is suitable for MP4 or MKV. Just forget about AC3 or AAC or M4A because it's very outdated. If you want to upload Music video to CZcams but you're afraid that CZcams might mess up the audio quality, use either PCM or WAV for audio track, and video format must be MOV. (Not MP4 or MKV). This is because CZcams server sees MOV as a video format created using Apple device, while in reality, you can create MOV using anything.
What I hate about subscriptions including "lifetime" ones is that at anytime these companies want, they can either rescind what is included in a lifetime subscription or use crafty wording in a rambling statement to justify why you suddenly need to pay again. I get what Chris is doing in this video, but for me cheap computing is what it's all about and that doesn't include subscriptions.
Office apps work *okay* but lack some functionality.
I have noticed CZcams is not showing your videos to me, I had to look up your channel and resubscribe... Very odd since I have been a member of yours for years...
Very strange -- glad you are back.
@10:21 WavPack is from 1998 ... (not before WAV !!) 😆
Yes, typo. My bad. But clear I think it was an error.
Yes I like Ubuntu studio is definitely my favourite I’m dual booting with windows 7 with extended kernel which works pretty good but use Linux for important web stuff and made it look like windows 11 without the spying and taking over 😅👍
You do impressive work. Thank you for your commitment to quality content and presentation. I have enjoyed your videos for a long time. I have been an exclusive Linux user for 30 years at work (IT teacher now retired) and at home.. My needs are simple so have had no issues finding the needed tools. LibreOffice and its predecessors back to StarOffice word processor and presentation developer, a web browser starting with Mosaic and a 2D drawing app (xFig) have met most of my needs. Only recently have I tried to edit a cell phone shot video using kdenlive. So much to learn, so little time.
This would just be way too much of a jumble for me. I can’t use Windows with their intrusive ways it just offends me so that only leaves me with MacOS. Solid reliable OS that runs on beautiful hardware.
But you still need to use applications, and for video production, calling on an internlinked suite is a very standard thing to do!
Thank you for all these informative videos. Subscribed because this is not a click bait. I have skipped pass the Samsung cloning software because it works only for Samsung ssd and thus user unfriendly. I have tried DiskGenius and can confirm it works. It is 100% free with no spam notifications and no pop ups nonsense asking for donation. Best part of all, it is offline usable once it is downloaded and requires no updates. One last thing to add. DiskGenius is not a trial version and hence unlimited use.
I've gotten Photoshop to work fine when I tested it on one of my Laptops (Acer Swift 3 with a Ryzen 5500U) running Linux Mint with Bottles. Maybe could be a software to make a video about =)
I've yet to try Bottles, but it's certainly on my list for a video. What happens when CC updates?
@@ExplainingComputers I haven't tried that actually, just tried installing Photoshop and it ran fine.
Hi Chris loved the video, I've now been using Linux mint on my main PC now for a month and also switched my laptop to also use Linux mint about 3 weeks ago. All your linux videos have been super informative and very helpful. A massive thank you for all the awesome content and keep up the great work dude.
Thanks for this positive feedback, appreciated. :)
I used to use Windows Movie Maker to edit my videos when I was on Windows. Of course I can't now that I have changed to Linux because that doesn't work on Linux. Though I have found Openshot to be the best replacement because it's very similar to Windows Movie Maker. So I use that. As for Adobe the flash player is no longer supported and I never used Adobe photo shop because that's not free and I don't want to pay for software.
Got it installed a week ago and had it dual booted with Win 11 alongside on a Dell laptop 5300 touch screen ram 16gigs i5 8 gen. Ubuntu 24.04 is way lighter than win 11 this second hand laptop came with and surprisingly touchscreen works just fine too.
Thanks Christopher. Maybe Darktable and Krita should also be mentioned.
Certainly great software, but here my focus was on video production (specifically my video production!). :)
I bought the new LightWave in the hope for the Linux version, but it is not comming soon sadly.
But they did initially promise Linux I think?
@@ExplainingComputers Yes they did, they were supposte to try to make it run with wine, then do a poper port. The code is QT, so it can be easily compiled to Linux, but there are some old horrible code that needs to be fixed. I think they abandoned the idea of trying to make it run on Linux. In their latest announcment, no words on Linux. So I think, LW will die on Widows.
17:14 "To produce something that looks like PowerPoint" I actually do make a lot of the graphics for my videos using MS PowerPoint. Even some of my thumbnails I make on a PowerPoint slide.
is it photo-pea or is it pho-to-pe-a?
According to the developer, it is photo-pea (and has a "pea" drive").
While I appreciate your videos, it must be said that Linux is not the " be all and end all" of operating systems. Each OS including Windows, has it's place and function, regardless.
Thanks, but nowhere have I ever said that Linux is the best OS. I make content here on Windows too (and Chrome OS Flex and other OS). I totally agree with your last statement, and again have never, ever said otherwise on this channel. So you appear to be criticising me for some I have not ever said!
I would recommend buying the Resolve Speed Editor mini keyboard and shuttle wheel. Costs a little more than a Studio licence but comes with a Studio license included so the speed editor effectively costs about £80 more and gives an even better editing experience.
I have Linux on my desktops and Windows 11 on my laptop that I rarely use.
Hi Chris, great video. If you are going to buy Resolve, consider instead getting one of those cheaper Black Magic _Panel_s, they cost not much more than 300$ and come bundled with a Studio key. So it's like you pay for Resolve - and get a control panel for free :)
Only format you need to know is WAV CD. This compact disc is the KING of all formats.
I use Shotcut and Krita. (I couldn't get Flash Integro to work with wine, some upsides, some downsides, but wayyy faster than using my 14 year old laptop). *... and I was using audacity on windows so no change there.
