Have you read the same author's "A mathematician reads the newspaper "?
This is my second comment :) With a few of the books I love and would recommend: - Non-Fiction: Cosmos - Carl Sagan Billions & Billions: Thoughts on Life and Death at the Brink of the Millennium - Carl Sagan "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!": Adventures of a Curious Character - Richard Feynman "What Do You Care What Other People Think?": Further Adventures of a Curious Character - Richard Feynman Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language - Gretchen McCulloch - Scifi/Fantasy: Rendezvous with Rama - Arthur C. Clarke Nightfall - Isaac Asimov The Last Question - Isaac Asimov World war Z - Max Brooks The Electric State - Simon Stalenhag Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy - Cixin Liu - And I fully agree with your Flatland recommendation!
I love those pictures! They are so beautiful! Thanks for showing those! Its so different from where I live in the Netherlands
Im going to listen to your recommendations later this week! I love some longer videos just talking about a divers range of books :) Edit: I found the time. Im watching! Love this format already. First book goes immediately on my to read list. (The Long Tomorrow). Also added: TO:KY:OO, The Subplot: What China Is Reading, Surreal Numbers and Why It Matters and Worlds Beyond Time. Thank you! Im gonna do a seperate comment with my 5 star recommendations :)
I went to the Hokusai expo en London and it changed my life. I might just buy this book.
I want to see these prints in person - it is so cool that you have had that opportunity! I’m planning a trip to a museum later this year to hopefully see some.
i chalenge you to review "tsuihousareru tabi"💀
Finally! The author of the waves. Had I known about your channel before, I would find this out sooner... It was recommended to me about a month ago, probably because of the math books. It has been a pleasant surprise.
Thank you for the comment - I appreciate it! I'm glad you found my channel! :)
It's a great read. I love the concept of wizards just being computer programmers.
I really enjoyed the concept too! Thanks for the comment!
I love artbooks, Im gonna buy this one! Thanks for the review!
This was a really cool book - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
This is suchs an amazing review! You got a new subscriber and follower on goodreads :). I just finished this book today
Wow, thank you for the supportive comment and for following my reviews! I appreciate it! Hopefully you enjoyed the book as well.
@@badbettybooks4001 Yess I did!
Congratulations on your journey! Sticking with your CZcams channel for all these years is an accomplishment. :) I'm primarily a romance manga reader and I found your channel because of your review of I Married My Best Friend to Shut My Parents Up! My recommendation for you would be A Sign of Affection. If you haven't heard of it, it's about a deaf university student who meets a guy who likes learning languages and traveling. I thought you would like it because of your interest in languages and it is pretty lighthearted and not explicit.
Thanks for coming by and checking out my channel! I Married My Best Friend was actually a recommendation from another viewer, so it is cool you found my channel from another recommendation! I will check out A Sign of Affection - it looks like I can order it to my library and it sounds like a cool concept - thanks!
I always love seeing the type of art people make in relation to math. I'm the same as you, there were a couple of times you read the description of some stuff and I knew the vocabulary, but not when it's with other terms I know.
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad I wasn't the only one! When reading this book, I noticed a lot of the artists/mathematicians were working on advanced problems from prestigious universities which likely explains why I was getting lost! But I enjoy challenging myself so this was overall a fun book with cool art ideas.
Ok, you really do learn something new everyday if you look. lol I would have never connected math to art. I am not mathematically inclined, but the art is pretty cool!
I really enjoy the topic of math and art because it intersects two topics that I normally wouldn't connect - and I have found some great books on the topics! Thanks for the comment! :)
I found your channel not long ago and I find the depth you discuss the books and the choices of books very refreshing
I came here for the random math book reviews of yours that got in my feed and I've loved to find other areas we overlap (absolutely love kaguya sama). Thank you for continuing no matter how small this channel is. I love listening to and watching these.
Also I love how unique these are. I don't follow book tube / book tok at all but I've definitely noticed the trends that cause everyone to cover the same exact ones which can be annoying
To encourage comments, you might want to read and react to them at the end of videos, and to encourage discussion perhaps favor the comments of people who reply to others as well
Thank you for the supportive comments and the suggestions!
Great video! I also started my channel just for fun for a couple of the same reasons as you. What made me laugh though is that I find myself reading a bit less critically and more emotionally…if that makes sense? My undergrad is in English lit, and I have a masters of divinity - between them both I had to do so much critical reading and essays, research etc that when I got out of school in 2018 I barely picked up a book for fun until about 2 years ago lol. I had forgotten how much I loved to read because my reading was so tied to only academics…and reading children’s books to my kids lol.
I can relate to your experience with school - I studied math, but I still had a lot of classes with reading and reading for me was then tied with school work. I barely touched a book for fun for 4 years while completing my degree. I would imagine your English Lit degree would be very helpful for your channel though!
Could you review my new book: Math Mystic’s Guide to Creative Spirituality? Wipf and Stovk, April, 2024.
I would love to check it out! I am a library reader so I will have to wait for a library in my state to add it to their collection before I can get it on inter-library loan. Fortunately there are hundreds of libraries in the system including universities so hopefully one of them adds it! In the meanwhile I will add it to my "to-read" list.
It is so refreshing to hear a CZcamsr talk the way you do. You do CZcams as a hobby which is amazing. You're not making content just for the algorithm or jumping on the latest trend or buzzword, your videos are what you want to make, and want to read, and want to talk about. You deserve to a bigger channel, keep up the good work :-)
Thanks for the supportive comment, I really appreciate it! I love reading and never want this channel to feel like a job or a chore, or like my reading needs to follow what is currently trending on social platforms- that would kill my lifelong love of reading so fast. I think it is also my secret to not getting burnt out after 4 years- I genuinely love reading all these books and don't have any worries about pleasing algorithms.
@@badbettybooks4001 doing your own thing makes you stand out amongst the crowd. So many channels are chasing views and interactions, where-as you're being you and showcasing your passion. I am happy I found your channel and will always watch your videos.
You're the only booktuber I watch, so pretty much the best to ever do it if I had to guess. Glad that you mentioned Surreal Numbers as a good recommendation ahaha. Congrats on the 4 years, keep it up!
Thank you for the comment and for continuing to follow me! Surreal Numbers was a fun read that I never would have found on my own, so thank you for that recommendation! I have recommended it to others but I don't think I've convinced anyone else to read it (at least off-line).
Found ur channel not too long ago. Very cool to see someone talk abt random books really different from the masses. Wishing u luck and hoping to see all the new books u will be covering! (Ps if uve never heard of Cormac McCarthy I highly recommend all his works especially blood meridian)
I have heard of Cormac McCarthy and Blood Meridian but have not read it - I will add it to my ever growing 'to-read' list, thank you for the recommendation, and for the supportive comment!
Subscribed! I have never read this, but it sounds - at least different. :) I’m not sure if it’s something I would like or not - so I’m glad I didn’t have to read it to learn about it. Definitely checking out more of your videos!
Thanks for the comment and subscribe! I’m not sure I *liked* this work, but I had to read it for a reading challenge! It certainly was different.
@@badbettybooks4001 that makes sense! You seem to read a lot of interesting things in general though, it’s really great to hear about.
Hi KT!
Hello!
Been reading the poems of Sapho translated by Julia Dubnoff. Could be reading more tbh tho. Love viewing this channel for new reading ideas & book reviews :)
Thanks for the comment! What a great pick for a book to read - recently I've been wanting to get back into some Greek/Roman classics (not sure what else to call them). Hopefully you are enjoying it!
This looks like such a fun read! What do you think the age range would be for its readers? I have a niece (13 years old) who prefers graphic novels, so I’m thinking of ideas for gifts for her, but I don’t want to accidentally get her something with themes that are too intense or not kid-appropriate!
That's a good question - the comic series on the Hoopla app (where I read this on) has the series marked as "Teen" and I would agree with that assessment. Nothing is gory, adult, or 18+, but there are some fight scenes with monsters, and 13 is on the boundary between kid and teen. If she is already reading other teen graphic novels I would say it would be a good fit- otherwise maybe wait another year or two if she still prefers kid's graphic novels. Hopefully that helps!
@@badbettybooks4001 Yes, that definitely helps-thank you!
"Of course he has a turtle..."
I recently bought the audiobook, and I love scalzi!!
Nice! I am big audiobook fan- I find I pick up on different things between an audiobook and a print book.
Its cool that you read Jaime as female, I was surprised to learn that the MC is gender neutral. The author never defines which gender they are.
oh wow I completely missed that!! Thanks for the comment!
Ever forayed into Koine Greek?
I have not! Is that a language you are studying?
Too many languages - too little time! :(
@@badbettybooks4001 yes. Really fun. Oh for sure, I concur.
The book review I refer to is Faces of Power and Piety, which discusses how medieval artists depicted people and concepts in a more stylized way: czcams.com/video/260ATBExz-4/video.html
ANOTHER BESTIARY?!?!?! 🔥🔥🔥
A much more academic book than I normally read but it was still good! Thanks for the comment!
Hello! Not an art historian but I am a Japanese studies student who took a module in Japanese Art. Ukiyo-e prints were popular throughout the Edo period (1603-1867) but declined during the Meiji era (1868-1912). Some ukiyo-e prints did experiment with Western techniques such as one-point perspective as seen in the Utagawa school's 'uki-e' (perspective pictures). Also, while sōsaku hanga did incorporate more Western aesthetic philosophies with abstract designs and a major focus on artistic individualism with their 'jiga-jikoku-jizuri' slogan (self-drawn, self-carved, self-printed), these prints were still seen as low-brow art by the Japanese government who did not include sōsaku hanga prints in their own national art exhibitions until after WWII.
Thank you for the comment and your perspective as a Japanese Studies student, I really appreciate it!
I also listened to this book. I had wondered if it was ai generated because of the pronunciciations of words like misplacwd accent in Navajo and Butte. I am native. I have read a number of Native History and anthropology books. I got through it easily in a few days. I may listen again. It reiterated much of what I have read. I appreciate the intertwining of native american history, relation to plants and animals. In a sensitive manner. I kept hearing the music that played in the scene where they are looking for buffalo and just fing rotting stinking corpses od buffalo. Thanks for your review.
How cool! I know next to nothing about linguistics, but would love to learn more. Glad I came across your channel, thanks for sharing your review! 😊

What an awesome book. Good authors! Ladefoged is amazing
Very interesting! I wonder: do you take suggestions?
Yes I love getting suggestions!
@@badbettybooks4001 i really love the book: the wall by Marlen Haushofer. It’s about a woman in Austria who gets trapped between invisible walls in the alps. A really interesting read!
@@rensbakkum2296 Sounds interesting and maybe a little creepy! I will add it to my list of books to read. Thanks for the suggestion!
Cool review! But I was too distracted / amazed by the cat going into the other room once and again and never coming back, in some kind of paradoxical loop ...btw matching your Math Monday.
Those cats are the star of the show haha!
Pretty cool book, & nice review too. Love it! 🍃 ✨🌲 🪨 🎨

Came across this story by finding an alternate version of the cover illustration in a book about Sci-Fi art from the 60's-70's. Thanks for your insightful review. Interesting concept!
Thanks for stopping by and listening to my review - I appreciate it! I also love sci-fi/fantasy cover art from the 60s and 70s, so it is cool you found my review while searching for that topic!

I like his books and writing style. Lamb is my favorite by him.
I’ve also read that one! I don’t believe I filmed a review for it though. My sister recommended lamb to me.
Flipping through that book must've felt like visiting a mini gallery!
I had a great time!
The Remarried Empresss was a light novel first. It's been my favorite Webtoon since the first chapter. Since we are on our way to the finale, I am thrilked it got published in English. There is supposed to a K-Drama, too. And now I am subscribed to yout channel.
Thanks for the background information! Thanks for watching and subscribing - I appreciate it.
Your video came across my suggested video feed, so I thought I’d watch and support another content creator! I’ve recently discovered some cat-themed cozy mystery novels in my local “free little library” and have totally loved them! They’re not quite top-notch as far as deep story-writing, but they’re definitely cozy and fun to read. This book that you talked about looks pretty cool!
Thanks for stopping by and watching! I love a good cozy mystery, especially one with cats. Cozy mysteries aren't usually peak literature but they are the perfect book when it is rainy and storming and you just want to curl up and read. I'm glad you were able to get some from one of those free libraries!
Incredible Art Beautiful Work The Comfort Of Man Know’s No Bounds
