RHS Tatton Flower Show Gardens 2024 | Gardening Ideas & Inspiration | Garden and Planting Design
In this video we show you some of the highlights of RHS Tatton Flower Show 2024.
This year we were asked to help plant the RHS Gardens of the North show feature garden designed by Sharon Hockenhull.
The feature included 3 gardens inspired by RHS Harlow Carr and 3 inspired by RHS Bridgewater.
The show, as always, had lots of garden inspiration to take away and implement in our own gardens at home.

    • @MadAboutGardening

      They just might be a bit slower than the rest for some reason or growing in ground where there is a lot of nitrogen, which promotes foliage. I would try giving them a feed with a high potash fertiliser, something like tomato feed, and see if that helps to get them to flower. Hope this helps.

    Those look really nice. Funnily enough, I asked my brother for a bit of his clump over the weekend. It's yellow so probably not for you Paul. Since watching CZcams, there are a lot of gardeners who don't want yellow in their gardens but I love it and I know you do too Andrew. The clump at my brother's place is massive but he has a garden that can take it unlike mine! Sounds like you had a wonderful time at Tatton. I'm looking forward to your video. I'm so excited as I'm going to David Austin's place in Shropshire when we're on holiday next week. As you can imagine, my list of "wants" is getting bigger and bigger. I keep adding and crossing things off the list. Ancient Mariner is at the top and I've got my eye on Emily Bronte and Claire Austin. I'm going to be like a kid in a sweetie shop. I may have to abandon the other passengers so that I can fit the roses in my car. I've got my priorities right! Have you ever been? It's somewhere I've always wanted to go and am just hoping there's something to see as it's not the best time of the year to go. Take care. xxx

    • @MadAboutGardening
      @MadAboutGardening Před dnem

      We picked these Lythrum plants up from Arley Hall nursery and we’re so pleased to find large healthy plants that didn’t cost the earth. Speaking of yellow, we also got some more Rudbeckias from Arley to fill a gap as the ones we have in the border have struggled this year with slug damage. We used to grow the yellow loosestrife in Sheffield, it soon grows into a very large clump and is lovely when in flower. We went to David Austin’s many years ago and it was fantastic. Andrew was in his element. The gardens are like rooms and the roses are grown with other plants so you can get some good ideas of what to grow alongside them. I’m sure you’ll love it and come back with lots of roses. Your list will be even longer when you see them growing at the centre as large specimens and get to smell the fragrance. I can just imagine you telling your passengers that they will have to make alternative arrangements to get home while you fill your car full of roses! We’ve had family before now with plants on their knees after coming back from a garden centre in order to fit everything in! We hope you have a great time and that the weather is good when you go. Take care xxx

    I have about 5 geranium plants (all the same) that were from cuttings from my mother in law but don't know what they are (probably rozanne or brookside or something like that). But the one I am most pleased with is Cloud Nine. I saw a photo somewhere but it was hard to find but last year I got one at Scone Palace garden fair. This year it has been amazing. About 70 cm tall with the most gorgeous sky blue ruffled flowers. I would recommend. Not sure if this can be cut back to reflower? Although it is still flowering just now.

    • @MadAboutGardening
      @MadAboutGardening Před 3 dny

      Wow, I've heard of Cloud Nine but haven't grown it. It has lovely flowers and is quite unique. It's great to get the taller varieties that can mingle in the middle of the border as geraniums always look great no matter which plants they are next to. You could always try giving it a cut back after flowering, you won't be loosing anything and will be gaining fresh foliage at the very least. Happy gardening Sharon.

      Thanks so much Wendy. That’s a great name for a hydrangea! Sometimes you just see a plant and then before you know it, it’s in your car on the way home with you - the bit in between is a blur (well that’s my excuse!) It would be a dull world if we all liked the same things, as long as you’re happy with your ornament, that’s all that matters. Andrew and I sometimes have a different view of plants too but we always come to a compromise. Glad we could fill the gap of Gardeners’ World and Beechgrove this week. Your garden is looking beautiful 😍I´ve never seen Eupatorium ravaged by slugs!?Terrible this year!I have 3 big clumps in my garden and they are untouched by snails!There seem to be regional preferences!?The new plants are soo wonderful,specially the Salvia Black & Bloom and the perennial Foxglove.I have few three years old Salvia Amistad and they looks great (zone 8).At the wintertime they stay in the frostfree shed...Our snails are not interested in!But thats no guarantee!Veronica is one of my favourites!Me and the bees love the colour,spikes and height and they are so simply to propagate by cuttings...Thank you for sharing the video and hugs from Germany

      Thanks Tina, it's the first time that we've had problems with the eupatorium this year. We're really excited to have the new salvia. The flowers are really lovely. We'll have to bring it in when the weather gets colder but its staying in a pot so we can just move it easily. The veronicastrum is always a good choice for us and the bees. We had a white one but it got too overcrowded and died this spring. We love the pink one though and the slugs leave it alone. Hugs from the UK, take care Tina 🙂

  • @martianleaderrichy1520

    Everything is looking wonderful 😀👍 Noted, Scabiosa 'Kudo White' for next year 👍 How tall is that E. Planum, about 3.5-4ft tall and which one as there is a few Planums? I spotted the Echinops ritro 'Veitch's Blue' but you didn't mention it, mine has 3 flowers (2 in colour) on and 4 new shoots about 1" tall 😀 The herb planter is looking awesome 👍That rose is so full of flowers upon the fence, stunning. Salvia 'Black n Bloom', was this before the wind got it or is this what's left of it? I'll be putting mine on my website maybe tomorrow but when my older ones catch up I'll show a 4 comparison of S. Black n Bloom, S. 'Black n Blue', S. 'Rockin'® Deep Purple' and S. 'Rockin'® Fuchsia' 😀 All in all, the garden is looking wonderful 🌼😃👍I'm seeing hardly any bees this year 😒 A Wollemi pine would look great in there too 😊 Wonderful , thank you both for sharing the vlog 😃👍

      @martianleaderrichy1520 Thanks Richy 😊. It's just plain Eryngium planum that we grew from seed and it's about 4 ft with loads of individual flowers. You're right about the Echinops, we forgot to mention it. Only one has been able to grow properly as the slugs have slowed the other two down. The flowers are fascinating aren't they when they fully open. The Salvia was staked after filming 🤣. The rambling rose reminds me of blossom it's so full of petals. Looking forward to seeing more photos and your salvia collection. Back to tatton tomorrow and Sunday so hope weather is dry 🤞. Take care 😀 👍

      @@MadAboutGardening Hello Andrew, That's still pretty tall for the normal Blue Eryngo (ave 3ft) must be loving it there 👍Ech. Ritro, mine I think is high up away from most slugs n snails, well the lazy ones 😃Ohh, a while back I mentioned we have Scabiosa 'Black Knight' 1 of my fathers opened today, it's stunning. Mine seem to be about a week behind, I highly recommend it. I'll put a pic on site when I can, not tomorrow, last day off and not enough hours for what I've left to do, thank you UK weather 😒I hope the weather is best suited for what you need to do over the weekend at Tatton and the garden is going to plan. @@martianleaderrichy1520 Thank you so much Richy, it’s really tall isn’t it, and taller than Paul expected. Maybe we should try growing the slug prone plants up high like you do! That Black Knight Scabiosa sounds amazing, I love the dark coloured plants so this would fit perfectly in our borders. I’ve been for the first day today at Tatton and the garden is looking beautiful. Weather wise it’s been good with only a few very light showers. Hope it is good tomorrow too. I won’t mention Salvia to Paul, but I did notice he moved the black and bloom to the front and it was staked beautifully (thanks for the advice with this one!) Hope you’re having a good weekend.

    Wow, you've got a good crop of strawberries this year. Mine haven't done too well but I'm getting loads from my dad. His tomato plants haven't done as well as mine so I was glad to hand him a few. I wasn't as heavy handed with my sowing this year but I still had more than I needed. I always do that thing of "I'll just sow a few more in case germination fails" then sod's law they all take! Not a bright start to the day but it's stopped raining now. Hope it's fine where you are as days off work are precious. Take care. xxx

      We've had lots this year from the tower, but the other ones in the terracotta pot will need replacing next year as they aren't as good now they are in their 3rd year. It's good to share plants and swap when you grow too much of one kind. We grew enough Antirrhinums for the whole street this year! My dream has always been to have a nursery as i just love to grow plants. It was raining here too this morning but dry now like where you are. Have a great weekend Wendy, take care xxx
