SWEET DREAMS - BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB ORCHESTRA - SCRAPPY LAMBERT Vocal- 1920s Dime Store Dance Music
This is not the wonderful and dreamy Milton Ager & Jack Yellen composition, but rather the wonderful Billy James composed this equally dreamy and somewhat wistful but dancy little melody - with a small touch of Liebestraum incorporated into it! The record itself is a disaster, someone used a bad cleaner to wipe it down ruining the surface, (It was a filler record, I got for free!) I did way more clean up than I usually like to make this as enjoyable as possible But this is well worth the effort until I obtain a better copy to present to you, I hope you will enjoy this different version of a 1920s title!!

Vocal refrain by Irving Kaufman (in "crooner mode"). Also released on Cameo 9182 and Lincoln 3209.
Another beautiful Adrian Schubert arrangement! Do I understand correctly? Is Schubert the vocalist here? So much better than Rude-ly Valle ( my Grandpa’s nickname for him). All due respect, of course.🎶
Ahh yes. Very sweet indeed. Thank you for cleaning this up and sharing with us. !
According to the photograph, this disc is in rough shape indeed, but you did an amazing job on the restoration. Sound is most enjoyable, and efforts were well worth it. I love the Liebestraum quote and Scrappy Lambert's sweet vocal is precious, whereas the peppy albeit smooth and refined arrangement with a hint of nostalgia, is so well played by the orchestra. I loved this! According to Rust, this was also issued on Cameo 9187 as Al Alberts & His Orchestra. Again, these suspicious data are messed up credits. Why would the company issue the same thing twice with an interval of a couple of months? When checking the Online Discographic Project, it appears that Cameo 9187 actually is Sweet Dreams by Milton Ager and Jack Yellen. I didn't investigate any further, because it is obvious both songs are being mixed up within the same Rust Discography article. Oh well. As for the Blue Water Yacht Orchestra, it is unknown who is behind this alias: it seems the "Blue Water" wasn't transparent after all and that the names of the band members remain a mystery.
Maravilha de arranjo e música, mais de 100 anos. O ser humano se torna imortal desta maneira.
... But you can't help hearing Chick Bullock singing this in your head....🎉
Listening to this channel reminds me of finding a box of baseball cards of my youth tucked away in some cranny of an attic niche. What hidden gems to be rediscovered! Just when I thought I have heard most of the tunes from the 1920’s -30’s , up pops a forgotten treasure ! Thanks for sharing and carry on !!!!
Recorded in my birth month?? Neat! Ahhh, the time I wish that I could live in...only in my "Sweet Dreams" I suppose. Say, I can dream can't I?! Of course.😁 My thanks once again roybo1930!😚
This was a song Al Jolson made popular in it's immediate time. The record is clear, fidelity is great and the record was taken care of. The vocalist is good and the orchestra is superb. The Joseph Samuels orchestra usually was.
The orchestra, tune and vocalist are superb. The surface noise is minimal and the clarity of this early electrical recording is quite nice.
Thank You so much! This one was a tad of a challenge, very well played, so I had to do a extra bit of cleaning on it!
fabulous version.. love it by the Night Club Kings too
Thank you so much, I need to listen to the Night Club Kings version!
A fabulous performance! For Romeo 984, waxed c. April 6, 1929, Rust states the title of the song actually is "I Used To Love Her in the Moonlight (But She's in the Limelight Now)", also issued on Pathé 36974, Perfect 15155, Cameo 9182 and Lincoln 3209. For this side, he is crediting Billy Murray and Walter van Brunt aka Scanlan at the same time! Of course that makes no sense. Billy Murray definitely has another voice timbre than what we are hearing, but van Brunt/Scanlan is a serious contender. Hence my vote would go to the latter.
Thanks so much! Boy if you are confused about the vocalist on this, You have it correct, Rust has this totally wrong, "I Used To Love Her In The Moonlight" is a totally different record all together, and is vocaled by Scanlen and Murray duet! I have it, very interesting how this could have happened! Atticus has it here on CZcams, it is one I hope you will check out, I LOVE the record! I always LOVE to hear from you, and your wonderful replies make my day much brighter!
For the record Rust list, go and look up "I Used To Love Her In The Moonlight" by Mills Musical Clowns, posted by the wonderful Atticus Jazz channel! Let me know what you think about this haunting and beautiful record!!
@@bobbyroy84 Thank you so much for dissipating the fog! I was seriously puzzled about those weird credits. I checked out Atticus' posting and you are right. Nothing to do at all with this song. I can't believe an eminent discographer like Rust got so distressingly messed up regarding this side. Thank you so much as well for your praise and kindest words about my comments! My pleasure, it is always a joy to share background information about your wonderful recordings and uploads :-)
@@1920sfan1 OH! The pleasure is indeed mine! I always look forward to your beautiful comments and helpful information!
You are so right: this is a precious, energetic but smooth mid-20s tune in the style I am fond of! This side was waxed on April 14, 1927. The beautiful vocal is by Frank Munn. The Park Lane Orchestra was led by banjoist Harry Reser. Further band members are unknown. Thank you so much for sharing this delightful performance!
Yet another roybo1930 pearl saved from the oblivion of forgotten tunes ! Great melody. I draw a blank on the vocalist. Please keep ‘em coming !!!

These very pronounced "r"s is rather silly! Otherwise good!
The vocalist sounds a lot like Frank Munn. The orchestra is good and the record is unusually clear.
Thanks!! I believe you are correct!
"Call the police!" 🤣
This is one of Irving Kaufman's best recordings. The electrical process of recording did a lot for him. I believe he got his break in recording when he started with Vocalion in 1923. This recording was at the end of his prime recording days. The smoother sounds of Bing Crosby and Will Osborne, among others, were making him part of a glorious yesterday.
Those Dime Store records were the best with some of the greatest dance band performances of the era. You definitely pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this.
Ahh..adore this song 🎵. The lyrics, arrangement , sweet trumpets 🎺 with Scrappy Lambert’s voice: Thank you Roybo!

Great tempo, yes sir-e!😌 Mhmm...oh that voice...😚
I love almost all Crown sides, and this one is yet another of those brightly shining gems from this company. Harold van Emburgh's velvety tenor voice works wonders in the delicate vocal, whereas the lusicious and colorful orchestral arrangement is wonderfully played... Absolutely sensational, thank you so much for sharing!
Thank You so much for the lovely comment! I truly LOVE these Crown records!
@@roybo1930 Anytime :-) Crown actually is one of my favorite labels, it is so great.
Crown is rather fascinating... one thing though - I'm sure ARC took over Columbia in 1931, not the other way round.
Thank You! Yes I got that wrong! It was Columbia that was bought by ARC in around 1938 I believe, I think ARC bought Brunswick in 1931! For some reason I thought that Columbia bought ARC, I have several Perfect and Banner issues that were originally on Columbia! I Love You Truly by Guy Lombardo is one of them!!
And I really enjoyed! Thank You!
Thank You so much!
A great song, vocalist and orchestra. The quality of the recording is superb. It may never have been played on a Victrola. By 1935, they had record players that didn't have the heavy head to wear on it. The record was taken care of.
Is it also Irving Kaufman singing?
Beautiful!

Lovely dedication to your wonderful parents who raised a terrific son, and my good friend! The improved microphones of 1934-35 sure picked up a rich and sparkling fidelity here! You should hear how velvety, lush, and heavenly this sweet Melotone plays over my phone! Luscious and bettered by Will's dreamy vocal, I hear so much Vallee-likeness in this track, even more than Osborne's vocals in 1932! Love this thirties melody to pieces! Thanks for your excellent sounding upload! ❤ 🎵
Thank You benzo! You are truly a AWESOME Friend, and none of these videos (The sound anyway!) would be possible if it were not for your help!
Never heard this one in such clarity before! Thank you for uploading! It's always been one of the great ones of 1935. But 1935 because of it's release. Not sure where the January 1935 session info comes from, but from Brian Rust back in 1975, up through Shirley & Johnson in 2010, the session for Ev'ry Day and the flip side Sweet Music has been noted as being on December 6th, 1934. Just wanted to clarify that, great, amazing music by Will as always, and thank you again!!!
Thanks so much! Not sure about the date as well, my source has been wrong before! And it was the only info I have for now on this record, HOWEVER the date they have for Sweet Music is December 6th 1934, I wonder why the two dates?? I would have assumed both sides were recorded on the same date!! I credit benzo4029 and a 3mil stylus, + learning how to regulate my wavepad program for the clearity!
@@roybo1930 That is quite a conundrum. Curious indeed. What's the source of your session info?
The only source I have at present is 78onlinediscogerphy! It will do until I can obtain a few Rust books! It is troubling as I can't seem to get in contact with corrections or info about disc I have! Sweet Pretty Names that I posted is an example, it is listed as Sweet Pretty Mama's on Perfect!
Hey, do you have a recording date for this old record?
Man, this record is hard to track. Several online resources don't have any record for this or Sweet and Lovely. Seems to have been recorded sometime in September 1931. But this must be quite a rare record, what a find!
Absolutely, positively LOVING IT! And "While I Am Here, And You Are There", let's listen and dance to this never-aging, beautiful music of which we all l.o.v.e.!😁 Who's with me??💖

What do you mean?
@@jourwalis-8875 I've always admired roybo1930. I don't reject the method of importing music to a PC. I just try not to import music to a PC as much as possible. I don't recommend my method. Because the environment and equipment used are different. Video creators create what they believe to be the best, I don't reject different methods. I also think this 78 disc is in the best condition. I think it will have high quality sound no matter how you play it. When playing a disc in poor condition, there are various ways to play it, and I think video creators have a hard time. But I still avoid importing music to a PC as much as possible. That's all.
Sweet and dreamy!
Thank You Barbara!
1924!? Sounds very good for an acoustical recording! Or is it a very early electrical?
It is acoustical, OKeh and Brunswick had the best set up for acoustical records back then, Columbia had great acoustics until around 1918, Then they sounded quite hollow! Emerson has some great records as well! But OKeh and Brunswick were indeed the top!
Thank You!!
