Less talking and get to the point
The funniest thing is, I have this on my 2020 breakout and I found this out myself as well, that small tap is all that it takes to get it to shift again. Such a dumb thing but hey, it works!
Itâs just a Harley thing lol! Maybe the pawl and ratchet shift mechanism is just flawed or needs a little re-engineering lol!!
Hi from đŠđș
Hey whatâs up!! Howâs it going??
@@softailspeedz4314 like your vid
@chrishaigh82 thanks for watching!! it was a fun bike to mess with around with but i like being back on a bike with mids!!
@@softailspeedz4314 i tolerated the mids on my LR-ST with plan to put forwards but Iâve grown to love them, especially with some power ups meaning wheelies sometimes happen
@@chrishaigh82 best thing about mids is itâs a more aggressive riding position and much easier to power wheelie through the twistys or if you wanna burn that rear up lol!!
To extend the ram is actually to reduce preload and lower the bike.pulling the ram in pulls the swingarm down raising the bike.
stop blaming the forward controls jesus christ lolllllll
Next time stay on the damn bike and actually do some Demos. đ€·ââïž
I know⊠watching back I couldnât really figure out where to film and get good footage on my own lol. Hopefully I can get some actual good footage on my fxlr this year. Iâm almost done setting it up!!
Does carburetors make it harder?
No⊠I only made the vid cuz I never really rode a bike with forward controls and was just fuckin around with the awkwardness and rolling burnouts. I set the bike up a little but it ended up not being worth investing in a mid setup. However that 88b engine is an awesome motor!!
I started really comfortable riding on a bagger just play around use common sense safety gear is key get out there and burn some rubbba
Can I use this same concept on a M8 bagger?
Yea bro⊠just may want to shift your body weight closer to the tank to get off the rear tire so the suspension doesnât have any strain when trying to unload that rear tire!!
Thanks Bro appreciate the video and tip @@softailspeedz4314
@@owenjones9476 you got it bro!! Let me know how you make out ripping the bagger!!
The 96 is one of the best engines Harley ever built.
Those green grips are gay.
Increasing preload DOES NOT increase the ride height. Since when?
There was no rolling burnout lol tf you just kept launching
Also have had to just grab it with a big a pair of pliers and squeeze it to oblivion and turn, what a mess that was but it worked
For sureâŠ. Iâve used a ton of methods but placing the band at the strongest part of the canister has always worked since I figured it out and itâs a lot less mess lol!! My older sport bikes I used to punch screw drivers in top and bottom and place a pry bar as leverage between the two screw drivers and twist em off that way lmao⊠messy though
Good Video thanks for sharing đ
Anyone ever tell you that you talk too much? F*** sakes man
Usually not lol⊠you may be the first!!
Wow, I feel dumber for even sitting through this video.
Cant see the shocks no light donât use a mallet use WD 40
Piss poor lighting!
AS the turn the canistier the bolt keeps backing out, and when I tighten the the bolt that runs threw the center of the canister shock, the shock keeps moving. It won't allow me to get to zero or end of turns.
When you say bolt are you referring to the ram extending out of the back side of the canister? If so, you are increasing the preload. If that ram is moving back into the canister you are decreasing preload. Also have you loosened the lock nut on the forward side of the suspension canisters? Once thereâs plenty of free play after back off the lock nut you should be able to place your spanned wrench into the holes on the forward end of the canister and begin to turn canister desired direction to either increase or decrease preload. Be sure to turn each canister the same amount of turns after decreasing preload all the way as your starting point.
Also there is a machined portion of the threaded rod that protrudes from the front side of the canister where the lock nut isâŠ. You do need to hold that machined portion of that threaded rod when turning the canister with your spanner. Hope this helps!!
@@softailspeedz4314 My manual says counter clockwise to set preload. I am trying to turn it clockwise till I no longer can move the canister so adjust 3 turns out. The stub shaft is turning and losing the shock Flanged locknut.
@@softailspeedz4314 If I use locktight will it stop the flanged lock nut from backing out??
@@joglockaguinaga8229 I would not use loctite to fix a problem that shouldnât be happening.
One and 16th inchesâŠđ€Šââïž Thatâs where I turned it off
Great video man thanks
They sell lights that strap on your head and lights shines where you are looking, I cannot live without them. Propping a flashlight don't work or the old lady can never shine a flashlight where you need light.
Doin dirty shit, heard the cops, had to split.đ€
Anyone else freaking out over the lack of ratchet strap
Not using ratchet straps for a 5 minute job where there is no real force being applied to the bike. My area isnât really known for earthquakes either lmao!!
@@softailspeedz4314 yep Lotta customers said the samethung before bringing it to the shop for handle bars turn signals paint one tank cause they were just changing the oil or just checking the front wheel to see if they bent it or some other simple thing. But it's your bike so you drop it it's no skin off my nose.
Whyâd you say something then lmao? Bikes been gone and was in such good shape the finance manager at the Harley Dealership I traded in at wanted to purchase the bike. All the changes to that particular bike were done by me to manual specs of course! Iâll definitely question my abilities and judgement from now on after your expert opinions was dropped in here lmao!
Because I wanted to know if I was the only one that has common sense or not.
What's your handle bar set up? Nice bike bro. I may buy my uncles 03 softtail standard.
The bar setup is 8â pull back risers by Biltwell along with the mx high bars by Biltwell. 1â setup. The levers are Elite Mototech.
You should do a video just showing that bike off and the setup.
I would for sure but traded that bad boy in for a 2020 Low Rider. Liked the new mono shock suspension and mids for a more aggressive stance riding.
Thatâs the chrome filter thatâs stuck on mine right now
If you have a metal filter wrench⊠slide it close to where the oil filter screws onto the housing⊠that portion of the filter is more reinforced than the end of the can. Just be patient and keep constant tension on it and the seal will break
Band style filter wrench
Thanks Iâll try
On my 04 Fatboy I never messed with those
I can't believe how much of a b******* operation Harley-Davidson made to adjust those what a nightmare what the hell were they thinking
Itâs a terrible suspension. For some reason this particular model I really had a lot of fun with and kept around for a bit. Front controls absolutely sucked though when it came down to shredding lol!!
The new mono-shock softails are badass though⊠I really love my 2020 low rider!
Awesome job brother thank you very much only one on CZcams that has common sense to put a good video up step by step! I've been trying to figure it this out for about 2 years finally got the preload set thanks to you. The problem is ,it might be too much ? It hard to get a wrench in there at all now?
Hey bro⊠glad the vid helped. If you have any other questions feel free to give a shout.
Good video, Thanks
Good video, Thanks
Glad you liked! Hopefully it was useful⊠tough self filming lol
I have a 05 FXSTB With all 4 stages of screaming eagle upgrades and she likes to get loose and lay some wicked whole shots and rolling burnouts.
This 02â just a straight 88B twin cam⊠just a fun snappy motor to beat onâŠ. Just gotta utilize the clutch a lot and open that throttle up lol!!
Which direction you turn to lowering the bike , cuz Iâm lil short lol??
It wonât lower that much but I will lower. In the video I believe I mention directions. As you turn clockwise you compress the shock within the canister extending the exposed shaft which raises the rear end. So turning counter clockwise will let the shock inside the canister extend softening the ride lowering the rear ride height. You may want to soften all the way on both canisters as your starting point and adjust equally on both always as you find your best suspension point for the rear end.
Hope this helps!
I want my 5 minutes back! A video about burnouts with just some joker TALKING about it? Oh yeah some pictures of skid Mark's on the street.............. I'd get more 8nfo from cartoons
Hahaha best comment yet!!
$2,000 for mid controls?? Am I trippin or is that high? Doing mids swap on my 02 wide glide and isnât looking to be more than a $500 jobâŠ.
Thereâs no options for this modelâŠ. Why I did this vid for fun just messing with the awkward riding of forward controls lol. Still a good bike just not many mid options for it.
why doesn't it pop a wheelie?
Itâs a softail and that suspension setup is a bit rough to clutch up with the weight of this bike. The front will come up but it takes some doing lol.
I had to get one of those steel band style wrenches and it was still tricky to fit it in place. Came off like a charm though!
Best ones to use are the actual rubber strap wrenches⊠thereâs usually enough stretch where it wonât crush the can.
Garbage
I'm short and fat. I think I need this. Thank you for sharing.
Good luck with suspension tuning!! Adjust in small incrementsâŠ. This will alter handling characteristics. Mark two reference points as well when youâre doing this so you can be sure theyâre not backing out due to lock nut not being secured.
2015 softail slim. cant find any vids on it doing rolling burnouts... im gonna have to make some this spring.
Most definitely!!đ€
Having a hard time adjusting my softail it is real spongey and I need to stiffen it up I losend up lock nut and spin clockwise till the shiny shaft would not go in any more and then I did 2 full turns counter clockwise and it did not stiffin it up is there something I'm doing wrong the way it rides is killing my back and tailbone
Did you mark the canister and make a reference point to verify amount of turns? Youâll be able to tell just by looking at the fender height in relation to the rear tire. Also did you re-secure lock nut? This style of suspension should be monitored after adjustment to ensure each shock has remained in place according to your markings.
I actually purchased the progressive 422 heavy-duty shocks and installed them they made a huge difference and there set at 230 to 250lbs thanks for replying đ
Good purchase⊠you donât really get much out of the stock softail suspension unfortunately lol!!
An angle grinder wrench works if you don't have the Harley shock wrench. The pins go into 2 side by side holes instead of 2 opposite holes in the canister but it works well.
TrueâŠ. It sure does!!
Great idea mo
What kinda bars and risers are on your bike?
The risers are biltwell pullbacks and the bars are biltwell high mx bars.
will this raise/lower ride height as well?
Yes
Stiffening will raise ride height which will slightly adjust forward rake due to lifting rear end of the bike.

I see where it is, and I see the tools. But you didn't show ANYTHING about how to actually adjust the shock. WHICH WAY DO YOU TURN THE BARREL TO GO TO ZERO ON THE ADJUSTMENT? WHICH WAY DO YOU TURN THE BARREL TO ESTABLISH YOUR CORRECT TURNS FOR PROPER ADJUSTMENT? I think you need to reshoot this one, and: A. GET SOME LIGHT UNDER THERE. (i cannot see ANY of the marks you are talking about putting on the barrel, or the shaft, or wherever you are putting them.) B. ACTUALLY SHOW HOW YOU PROPERLY ADJUST A SHOCK. This video only tells how to unlock and lock the adjustment nut. I already grasped that part. Thanks!
Vid quality bout sucks but Iâm stuck filming myself lol. Just as a reference point whichever way you turn the canister watch the back side shock either extend or retract. Retraction is heading to zero and it will bottom out. This should be your start point for both canisters. At that point extending the shock is compressing the internal of the canister stiffening the ride and increasing the rear ride height of the bike in turn decreasing front end rake. Hope this helps or you found what youâre looking for!! Sorry for the shitty quality. Iâll get better with time!!
Need a light on the shocks. Can't see anything but black when you are under there.
Is that a stock tc 88? I got and 02 lowrider that's pretty impressive for stock.
Thanks!!
so how's that rear belt drive holding out?
Itâs holding out after I blew the first one apart at a DOT stop I was having a little fun at!! Took about a month of abuse for it to pop on a 2nd gear dumper lol
