Very well explained about the difference in cultivated plants and wild plants when it comes to watering. Overall very good looking plants, keep it up
Garden looks beautiful
Thanks for the praise!!!!
Aww they are so cute!
Thank you!!!!
Looks great, nice collection.
I really appreciate it!!
Your bog is really cool! Id totally try that set-up but my concern would be wintering the vft's. Im in north eastern Il and it can get too cold for those plants 😢
Another Outstanding Video , Your Flood Table is Perfect !!!!!!!!!! As is all your CP's !
I really appreciate you. I've been having to move them around so that they all get good sun exposure lol. Good problems to have I guess
While others Have there Big Green houses . Your Set up Impresses me to No End !!!!!! It's Empowering me to make my own bog here in Tc Michigan ! Great Job !!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome! Yeah I let them sit without water for 2 days or so depending on the climate. I used to think they need to be sitting in constant water but no. Subbed btw 😎
Yeah you live and learn after having a few plants die from rot. I just subbed you as well. Thanks for the support Mike!!!!!!
i just transplanted 3 of mine into a larger pot cause roots were coming out the bottom of the small ones they came with, i used 50 S peat moss and 50 perlite i mixed together. thats correct right? I use a grow light that's on a timer at 12 hours on 12 hours off for light.
Incredible. I have 1 plant 10 traps. This is amazing to see
My goal is to have that entire front area filled with traps!!!!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
The death cube flytraps look like a mixture of types. Some have saw-tooth traps, others look typical. Your setup is nice.
Yep It's super random. I've also had them change as they get bigger
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lets GOOOOOO
Man, I love seeing these type of forest looking bog gardens. Am hoping to make one someday but seems unlikely since my local birds hate carnivorous plants for some reason.
Ive seen people make some super creative setups with chicken wire or different types of netting to keep the critters out. Go For it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needed to see this man
Let's GOOOOOO
Do you ever water that preform pond garden or does it stay moist from the rain alone.
Ive watered it 2 times since January. It does a great job at maintaining its moisture levels. Were in a bit of a drought right now so I'm keeping any eye out on it
Nice plants, bro. 🌱
Much appreciated!!!!!!!!
Where do you source your plants from? I’m inspired to do the same thing.
A bunch of different places honestly. Mostly peer to peer sales/trades but I have ordered from flytrapking.com and flytraps.com
I live in Michigan Zone 6a . I have noticed that a Peat rich mix in my area leads to rot . What state are you located and Zone please ? A Mix of 1:1:1 peat, sand, Perlte works Great here . One thing I have noticed in spring , I can't let my plants sit in 2" water like summer . It builds Anaerobic Bacteria which as you know smells like a septic tank . Anyway, Great Video . Keep them coming .
I'm in NC zone 7B. If it helps, my plants are in 12+ hours of full sun per day. The only shade they ever get is from cloud cover so the surface stays a little drier
@@insecticidal151 well that Great weather really help . Need to find a sunnier spot . I just get 5 hrs of direst light . And got to remember to let my water dry before filling .
Nice vro
Thanks!!!
What our family calls Jack in the pulpit. They are so wonderful to see.
So wonderful!!! Thank you for checking it out
yessirrrr gotta love it
Yesssss!!!!!
Good Man !
Thanks ✌!!!!!
Fantastic Job , Looks Great !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Sam!!!! Hopefully im done with the manual labor for the rest of this season!!!!!
Nice video, I got the link from reddit
Thanks for checking it out!!!!
I make my own as well. Easy peesy, and cheeper.
So much cheaper!!!!!! Thanks for checking the video out
Looked from Keizer Oregon USA 😅
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 LETS GOOOOOO
G'day mate. I like medium like this but I prefer to separate the spaghnum between top and bottom. The bottom spaghnum stops the peat leaking out and the top is for moisture retention.
I typically mulch the top with shredded sphagnum. I have a bunch of window screen that I’ve been using in the bottom of pots to stop it from leaking out of the bottom.
Beautiful plants man! They all look real happy!
KEITH!!!!! Thanks man. The Moorei have settled in nicely and are I’ll putting up a few spring pitchers.
Man, everything in that boy is growing good. Especially the sphagnum moss
Thanks. We finally have hit some pretty hot weather so I’ve been having to hit the sphagnum with a little extra water!!!!
I wish my area had the climate for a bog like this! Your plants look so happy
How cold does it get in your area?!?!
Just subscribed. Love your content keep it up! Greetings from Germany
Thank you for subscribing!!!!! Welcome from the USA!!!!!!!!
Very cool little bog, man. I'm in Canada and my plants are just waking up, seems so late this year up here.
I felt the same way about my plants lol. I have a few buddies in my area that had open pitchers while I still had flower stalks emerging lol. How's the weather up there? We've had a super cool spring so far. We finally got some hot temperatures this week!!
@@insecticidal151 been very chilly, 50-60s flower stalks are up about 3 inches and some pitchers forming finally. Sundews are active and growing well though
Subscribed because of your helpful comment and link on another platform.
Thanks friend. I appreciate you hitting the subscribe button!!
Didn't show us the pitchers. 😭
Sorry about that!!!!!! This is it instagram.com/p/C696Wdfrjnk/?igsh=MXZ2djc4eXF3bnVrYg==
The come up!!!!!🎉🎉
Yeah man…. Definitely appreciative
I had one for a year or so but it eventually died. Will they survive if they dont get flys? I even tried to feed them flies to help
Yes they will survive as long as they get the adequate amount of sunlight. They really want as much sun as possible. Sunlight is the main course meal, Insects are just a treat.
This is genius
Sometimes I just grab stuff out of the kitchen drawers to get the job done 😅😅😅
How the hell does your channel have so little views? This stuff is awesome! I subscribed
I'm watching every video for as long as I can till something goes viral 😂
Thanks for the sub!!!!! We’re getting there. Slow and steady wins the race
@insecticidal151 I know that it takes a ton of work to post and do stuff, keep up the great work and I'm sure it's gonna pay off. As a side note: have you ever thought of grafting any carnivorous plants together (or to noncarnivorous plants that are compatible) to create your own crossbreed/hybrids? It looks like Venus fly traps might not work with much but maybe the scientists who classified it got the family / genus wrong or something. You could make stronger/unique plants and name one after yourself
@@calculatedrush I really appreciate you and your words!!
😂😂😂😂😂
I like video's like this
I appreciate your feedback. I just want to provide all the details to the community
All the good tips and tricks, man. Thanks!
You’re welcome. I’m glad it helps!!
Lookin forward to making an outdoor planter for Minnesota. We’ll never get through a whole bag of perlite 😅
Hahahahaha this is my second big bag and it’s almost empty 😅😅😅😅
Incredible, man! Keep it up
Thank you for watching!!!!!!
Stealing this idea! 💯💯💯💯
🗣️DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
man, that is awesome I love sarracenias and wish I could many varieties like that.
Yeah man. Sarracenia are amazing!!!! Such a unique and amazing species
Great video!
Preciate you bro!!!
Hi Insecticidal151, thank you for the video. NOTE: Orchid Moss and other bagged Moss products are not necessarily Sphagnum moss. If a person was to use those other products they may have poor results. A "potting mix" is a bit of a new concept to me though regarding carnivorous plants. I don't recall ever purchasing a CP that was in a mix with maybe the exception of something like a Dewy Pine or maybe a Butterwort. Maybe there are certain varieties that would be better suited to a grow mix such as you have shared as apposed to just standard Long Fibered Sphagnum? May be something I try testing in the future. Your plants look healthy and happy. Good Job Sir!
Hey I apologize for the late reply. This mix, and other comparable mixes, are better for North American temperate carnivores (Sarracenia, dionaea, Drosera) in particular. I'm not a fan of longer fibered sphagnum as a growing medium because when it comes time to repot them, the roots become really entangled and typically break off. I use long fibered sphagnum as a top dressing for my pots and I also use a food processor to mill it down to almost a fine dust. I have found that this works perfectly as a mulching solution. The experimentation is the best part!!!!!!! I really appreciate you watching and commenting!!!
Awhile back I met someone whp had a huge colony of Venus flytraps like you couldn't even see the substrate they were growing in a bog similar to yours and they said they had it for about 13 years and that it just started out as 2
If you get a clumping cultivar they will reproduce like nobody’s business once they’re settled in and happy. I have one that started out as 6 plants and turned into over 20 in 1 growing season 😱😱😱
@@insecticidal151 Well at least you only have to buy one to get a bunch of them
Lowes does occasionally carry nice traps but people just fail to properly acclimate them because Lowes traps are usually a bit more green due to the lighting but there better than amazons and grocery outlets those had traps small as my pinky nail and so lanky they just sometimes suffer depending on how much light the sellers give them
Thats exactly how these were when I got them. You can see original pictures and details at the following link. www.reddit.com/r/SavageGarden/comments/16xs8ny/kids_flytraps/ I actually do nothing to acclimate. I repot them and toss them in full sun. It takes a moth or two before they snap back but they always come back strong. I honestly don't have time or space to move them around for a few weeks while they acclimate and I've never lost a plant doing it that way. I put them out and care for them as if they were perfectly fine. These are about a year old now and putting out some gigantic traps
@@insecticidal151 Wow the difference is amazing you and your kids did a good job on repotting them Thank you for posting lots of videos on these subjects people really do find them helpful
@@OceanDavyd thanks!!!!! I’ll keep em coming!!!!
