INFIRAY RICO RL42 THERMAL SCOPE REVIEW
My final review / not review / thoughts on the Infiray Rico RL42.
It's a bit long winded, more so than I initially wanted it to be, but at the same time, I wanted to make sure I covered everything that I had wanted to talk about.
And so, I hope this video has been of some help to anyone who has been looking at getting this unit or just looking to get into thermal. I also hope anyone watching this enjoys my skits. They're just something for a bit of fun that I like to tie into what it is my video is about.
Cheers, Cam.

Silva Fox Whistle Lunchtime Entertainment
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 1,8KPĆed 6 lety
Got the chance on my lunch break today to have a bit of a whistle. I'm lucky enough that across the road from my house is paddocks upon paddocks of tall grass, blackberry bushes and plagues of rabbits (perfect for foxes I would imagine). I quickly threw on my digital camo shirt and hat then made my way over to sit behind the tin shed we call a bus stop. After about 4 to 5 minutes of whistling, ...

Great Review Cam, deserves more views. What does it retail for?
Thanks mate đ» usually they retail for around $4,399, but I see that Hunt The Night currently have them on sale for $3,999
@GoodCamHunting arh thought so. See the barn was advertising for $700 but that was just the range finder haha. All good
Ive owned la 101 & 102 .243, T1x, T3X varmint .308 and CTR 6.5 I loved my Lithgows but the Tikkas in my opinion are better. Also I disagree with you on actions. Tikka wins that race brother. Both Lithgows were brand new as well as my tikkas but they were not smoother than the tikkas. Also like to add, thereâs not much as in aftermarket stuff you can do with the Lithgows. Where tikkas thereâs tonnes. Tikka trigger wins too đ Iâm not Lithgow bashing by any means, they are friggen awesome rifles and wish I could have kept them.. but had a few issues with both that had to go back to the factory, where my tikkas have and still run perfectly to this day.
Iâve bought three of them so far. I loved mine so much that my two best mates scored one each also. Ron was a real Aussie and a pleasure to deal with.
... another bullet the Lithgow loves is the Sierra 65grn Game Changer (over 22.8grn of N133, seated to 2.250") its 5 shot 1/2" @100 yards, from 35C down to freezing..
That was a good well presented video. Subscribed.
Great review
Cheers mate đ»
Put the lrf on it and your sorted. Been running my setup for nearly two years and love it
Agreed. That's why, towards the end of the video, I advised to get an LRF if you can. Would make all the difference.
Great review as always mate! Canât wait to see you review the Pard NV007SP LRF!
Thanks mate! đ»
I'm literally in the same position. I already own a tikka t3 7mm mag. Apart from other calibres I own its time for a 223 and can't decide between these exact rifles
đ. Howâs the LA 102 going? What do u normally hunt? What is your go to firearm? Would u use a .223 for pig hunting or step up to say .308? Just asking your opinion.
Hey mate! Still loving my LA102, it's my go-to rifle. 95% of what I'm shooting is foxes, so the .223 is perfect for that. I've got a Tikka T3x in .308, but personally, I'm not a big fan of bigger calibers, I know this will sound silly, but it's just too much gun for what I do. The .308 is more peace of mind that I'm using something with enough energy to humanely dispatch larger game, like deer. I think for pigs, you might find the .223 will still be ample, but don't take my word for it as I've never hunted pigs. Check out A.Amantine, he's in the US, but I seem to recall he did a video (CZcams) a while back where he was out controlling pigs with an AR chambered in .223, and it was still very effective đ
Love my LA102 chambered in 308 I added a Leupold CDS scope and a Apollo Max muzzle brake and itâs a dream to shoot
I gave you a đ for the intro alone đ
I'm 63 in Arkansas and you practice make perfect, I shoot a lot, trying to find a compact Tikka 223 compact with a 1-9 I own a sako black bear 06 and it amazing
No mention of the magazine's? Aren't they identical?
Apparently so. At the time I did try the Tikka mag in the Lithgow and visaversa but never actually tested them in the field to see if one fed the other or not. But otherwise both seem to "fit" in each rifle đ
Excellent review, good honest advice.
...69grn is the way forward with the 1:9 Lithgow .223. Shot the Sako 69grn SMK Raceheads out to 1000 yards...without any cantilever! Took all the elevation, plus 24 MoA on the reticule but got all my 20+ shots in the black! They don't shoot as well as the Federal GMM but were still available and much cheaper...
Tikka is perfect rifle !
Hey mate, are you using a 3-9 inch bipod on your rifles?
Hey Joshua, sorry for my late reply. Yes, in this video I was and still am running to this day a Hy-Skor 3-9 inch bipod. I find 75% of the time I'll use it at its lowest height and the other 25% I'll extend the legs to suit the terrain. Hope this helps đ»
Great review, well done, I got the Tikka with the 1 in 8 twist rate, but Iâm going to get the Lithgow too just to have both
I got a tikka t3x 223 synthetic stock sporter 8" shoots so frigen well , i do want the 308 lithgow and best of all all its ozzy and i reckon its on par with sako and half the price
... update, the Federal GMM 69grn are 0.5" 3 shot groups @100 yards, regardless of barrel temperature, so I'm going to try a few more 69+ ammo types in it..
...I bought a Lithgow LA02 laminate in .223, fitted a Vortex Diamondback 6-24x50 FFP and shot it @300 and 500 yards with Geco 63grn FMJ and it was consistently hitting V-Bulls on McQueens targets with a few sighting shots....very impressed.
hahah that intro
Why for you not shoot young padawan?
It was behind a bus stop on the side of a road đ
@@GoodCamHunting ahh very much a fair call!
Tikka all the way!
I tried the Lithgow in .223. At 200 metres my 5 shot groups were between .3MOA and .7 MOA using ADI 55gr varminters (hornady projectiles). It almost shot as well as my Tikka 22-250 from the 1980sâŠ..
Had to fast forward frequently because of that stupid background music. It probably would've been a reasonable video, but missed a lot of content due to the horrid music.
I understand and have learnt my lesson with background music. It really does let this video down.
@@GoodCamHunting Glad to hear you are not a dogmatic person who's never listens. I'll follow your channel. :)
@@timriverstone4767 appreciate it mate! and yes, I like to make videos that I hope people will want to watch so if everyone is telling me there's too much background noise (which there was and there is đ ) then I'm going to listen. The last video I did on a Z-Vision torch I think was much better đ no background music đ
Awesome review mate I bought one today.đ
Cheers mate! đ» They are a great piece of kit!
I have a standard T3 in 7mm08 but definitely feels a bit heavier. I think I got a weight of 3.9kg with a Burris Full field IV 2.5-10x42 scope, a Backlanz Bipod and a Manitas Alpine Lite Suppressor. It's not too bad but definitely not the lightest for a bush rifle. Other thing too is the half cocks on the Tikkas are terrible but can be fixed by a Gunsmith. I've heard tales of people loosing bullets in the bush because of it. Other then that, I love mine, it shoots coin size groups and just a pleasure to shoot with 140gr projectiles.
What the fuck get to the point. Stupid ass video.
đ. How do u like the la102 now? Does it still shoot well?
It's my favourite rifle mate! I've got a Tikka T3x in .308 but I prefer my LA102. I've got so much confidence in it that when I put my cross hair on my target, be it a fox or a piece of paper, I know I'm gonna hit my mark. Few things I would like to invest in for it are a set of 30mm rings so I can switch out the Nikko Stirling scope for my Burris Veracity, and I would like to drop it (or another LA102) in to a chassis for the extra rounds I'd get from an AICS mag, then there's all the other modular components but that's just personal preference. But to answer your question, it still shoots well and I love it đ I will probably look to get another maybe in 6.5cm in the future.
@@GoodCamHunting. Sweet thanks for the quick reply. Do the lucky 13 mags work well for the extra capacity? Or are they a bit pricey compared to the aics mags?
@@holden3083 I have never personally used a lucky 13 mag to be able to give any honest feedback on them. I heard negative reviews of the gen 1 models regarding something to do with the spring they were using which caused feed issues but has probably been resolved in the current model of mag. From the bit of research I've done the cheapest lucky 13 10rnd mag I could find was AU$139.00 compared to say a MDT 10rnd polymer AICS mag being roughly AU$45.00 (and I put emphasis on the roughly) or even their steel mags at roughly AU$85.00. BUT you also have to consider the costs involved to make the 2 comparable of cause; you've got to have a stock/chassis that will take the AICS pattern mags. So if you're happy with the LA102 in its original timber/laminate/synthetic stock and all you want is the extra rounds then you probably couldn't go wrong with the lucky 13 mag đ
@@GoodCamHunting. Cheers thanks bloke. Happy hunting.
@@holden3083 you're welcome mate đ»
Maybe I missed it, but over what distance did you do the shoot? Like the way that you have done close-up video of the bolts etc. Haven't seen many other vloggers do that. Thumbs up for that!
Cheers mate đ» Groups were shot at 100 meters đ I thought I made mention of it in the subs but I probably did forget to put that bit of info in.
That was one very annoying video. I gave up trying to hear what could have been good info.
I've learnt my lesson with music mate, this was a very rookie mistake on my part. I thought it was cool then but now know better. If you check out my most recent video you will see I've cut right back on the music đ
For F### sake why do we have to be tortured with NOISE, some may call music, on a gun channel?
Not sure why you're doing a Yank accent for a Finnish rifle ... fair enough if it was a Remington 700 ...
I did what I could do đ I am not the best at accents!
@@GoodCamHunting All good mate - appreciate the comparison as it is a common question for many. By the way - the Thales Factory range was my local for many years and I shot with people who worked on the development of the LA platform, more reviews of our local product the better. The last great Aussie commercial made rifle was the Omark Model 44, long time coming for Lithgow to knock our more than just Black Mountain barrels. It is a sore point however that they sell our own rifles cheaper to the Yanks than we can have them locally!
Pffft match grade ammo, you have too reload . Thatâs the only way you can get a tailor made load for each rifle.
đ couldn't agree more mate! Maybe as a novice I would have bought in to it but there's certainly nothing match grade about it!
Great comparison review. Audio could be better in some of the video otherwise well done.
Cheers mate! I agree, an external mic would have been good, something i should invest in. Appreciate the feedback mate!
Get yourself a Bergara mate
The long and high pic rail on the Lithgow would really piss me off. I like my scopes LOW.
I hear ya mate. I'm gonna be swapping out the ol Nikko&Stirling for something else in the future and when i do I'm going to be getting it as close to the barrel as i can get it.
Tikka all the way
Great review thanks, just what I was looking for. The Tikka looks great but it would be nice to own an Australian made rifle. Shame about the Sellior & Bellot ammunition. I've got an old BSA .308 that prefers it over most factory ammunition. I've had bad results with several types of Remington ammo with my BSA, my Browning X-Bolt and my Marlin. Clean it up Remington...
Thanks mate! Haven't had time for reviews lately unfortunately but looking to turn that around! Since then I've found that the OSA 55gr Blitzkings and the 69gr Matchking rounds perform the best in my LA102 .223. Would love to get my hands on one chamber in 6.5 CM in the future!
The cheap crappy bipod let you down on those groups
I also had it extended way too high. Looking in to something more reliable at the moment, not sure what just yet. Thanks for the comment mate đ»
0:26 made me spill my coffee! đ
Love the video, just subscribed. Happy hunting mate
Thanks mate! Really appreciate it! đ»
Thats hunting for you, just good to be out there
Sure is mate! đ»
Good efort. Next time maybe.
Thanks mate! Definitely next time đđ»
Just a shame you didn't run some heavier rounds it would demonstrate the versatility of these 2 rifles when heavy or light rounds are required. Why didn't you try the Ozzie ammo I believe it is a top shelf performer?
I hear ya mate! Due to location and demand I wasn't able to get my hands on any heavier rounds at the time of this review. I have since used 69gr Match King OSA rounds and they perform exceptionally well in the LA102!
Good review but sound echo o o o was distracting. Yes i have a lithgow in .22 which i use mostly for bench rest.
I always see complaints about the weight of the 102... and, every video I can find seems to show most fellas shooting from a prone position... Anyone ever shoot these rifles standing up?!? If so... Your thoughts? Thanks!
GreenMachine1975 Good question mate. Personally I know I'm not the best free hand shooter so I will always try to find a good spot to either lay prone, rested on a tree or post and if none present themselves or I'm placed in a circumstance where I have to make a quick shot I will take a knee. I practice dry firing with my rifle while free standing and I believe I can keep my reticle on target so to answer your question the rifle isn't "that heavy" that it can't be done but when I'm out hunting I will always go for the most stable position I can be in to make my shot. Hopes this helps mate! đ» cheers!
Also to extend on this, a lot of the videos you see they'll be shooting for groups or some long range target/gong shooting so you're always gonna want to be as stable as possible. Unless they're trying to see how accurate they can be shooting free hand you'll find most guys will be shooting in prone or at a bench.
Why not buy both?
I have the regular size whistle but i cant get the damn thing to make any noise other than a wet gurgle
They are a finicky little piece of gear. Gotta make sure your tongue is touching the fold of the whistle and your lips form a seel past the top and bottom holes. Otherwise, it's just practice practice practice. Good luck mate! Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any troubles đđ»
